For all you people asking why Quill didn’t tell Luann about Pru: it wasn’t his story to tell. Pru should be able to choose that for herself.

Congrats to all of you who called it months ago.

Lu and Pru have been living side by side for over two months. This appears to be the first conversation they’ve had since Pru moved in full time.

I really hope they don’t use this as an excuse to get back together. Stay strong Luann!

Communication was the real problem here, Quill not communicating, but then he had no idea about the feelings of his former gf, his head being completely in his, umm… theater work, Luann being rather self-centered, a major area she needs to work on, but having a valid argument about communication, poor, confused Bernice, loving and defending her bff, while not really being empirical and trying to establish the facts, all within an arc that is almost a month long, about communication. But, this is a terrific learning opportunity, and that is always good, even in learned in a tortured road. I agree with those who wonder though, about Mr. Gray. I think GE will do that on the 29th, this being a leap year.

I think Quill enjoyed Luann’s jealousy – gave him more power. As Luann’s boyfriend – Quill should have reassured her. I wonder who Pru would be attracted to? Maybe Crystal – but no go…

I think next week, Pru is going to have a little ‘talk’ with Quill about why he didn’t tell Luann that she is a lesbian. Quill will try to think up some kind of excuse but Pru will see right through it. Then she might break off their partnership in theater and becomes Luann’s surrogate sister.

Why is it Quills job to reveal personal details about someones life? Yes it might have made things easier for him, but that does not give him the right to “out” someone, especially someone who is his friend.

So Quill knew. He just decided that it was better not to say anything and let his relationship with Luann suffer because of it.

what Bhebert007 said! While this revelation removes ONE bone of contention from Luann’s salmon fillet, it doesn’t address the underlying breakdown of communication between she and Quill. She should have followed up on the NYC trip planning, he should have kept her in the loop about possibly joining a production company cast. She needs to rein in her anger, and Quill needs to recognize that she’s a part of the relationship too. They need to do it soon, before Tiffany starts sniffing and realizes Quill is fair prey again.

Prudence may have been surprised that Quill did not disclose that fact, but it is not his place to do so. Unless she personally told him it is alright to.

Someone needs to go back to New York and leave this strip for good. Why ruin a good thing by bringing in this element?

Wow, this is escalating quickly. Oooh, is Pru going to have a few choice words for Quill. It sounds like she’s surprised no one was told. But regardless of Pru, this break up came as a result of two people making plans without talking to each other. Quill is just as guilty of it as Luann. Luann is needing some time to develop who she is becoming. And Quill needs to decide whether a relationship is something he can handle when his first love is clearly acting.

Now, it is official. Quill is a jerk. He knew and never mentioned anything. Thespians are supposed to be well tuned to other people’s feelings and he didn’t notice Luann’s reaction to Pru’s arrival? I call him upon it. He noticed but being a guy, he didn’t want the drama. And he didn’t get nervous with Pru moving in with Luann and making a move on her…? Over confident much, Quill?

Just another reason not to trust Quill. Why would he withhold something this huge knowing that in doing so it could damage their relationship? I’m sorry no one is that oblivious to reality.

Can we please get to the part where Lu tells them SHE dumped Quill, and the reason had nothing to do with Pru?

And I doubt if Quill even noticed Luann was jealous of Pru. It’s not like he was paying much attention to Lu.

Why didn’t Quill tell her? Well first it’s not really his job to tell her and second he probably assumed it was obvious.

First, kudos to GE for “borrowing a character from ’Jane’s World’, so to speak.” :)

And now a few comments:1. Miscommunication as a plot device is as old as…well, plot devices.

2. Miscommunication often happens in real life, hence it’s popularity as a plot device.

3. Miscommunication often happens with young people who are just trying to grapple with their changing world view on so many things, especially their relationships with others. A certain girl I knew in college and I were “best friends”, but we still had a hard time dealing with our feelings for each other. it took over a decade, but I finally convinced her to marry me. :)

4. Not sure why this revelation makes “Luann” to be “not family friendly”. Since GE allowed Luann to age out of high school, college is often the place where you find out about the sexual orientation of your friends…it was so for me. And same sex relationships is not “pornography”. I don’t remember people saying Luann wasn’t “family friendly” when she began exploring her sexuality with Quill….in her bedroom, in a broom closet, in a parked car, etc. As her mother once exclaimed telepathically, “Whoaa!!!”.

5. Yes, the Luann/Quill breakup has been telegraphed for months now. Pru may have been the catalyst, but if it wasn’t her, it would have been something else. Pru assumed that Luann and Quill spoke substantively about things like she did with Quill…which was wrong, hence the problem. So she had no idea she was being perceived as a rival, especially since she has no sexual feelings for Quill anyway.

6. Not to promote stereotypes, but yes Luann, gay people exist in theater. Get used to it. And I’m sure Bern is thinking she’s a pretty lousy future counselor if she got this one wrong. Hey, she’s still 18/19…a learning experience to be sure.

Referring back to why Quill didn’t disclose Pru being gay: He ought to have noticed Luann’s suspicions of Pru, and then asked Pru for permission to share this information with Luann. Something doesn’t jibe here. I have to think that he just didn’t care enough about the relationship!

After reading the comments, some disguised hate mail, I’d like to point out that it’s still a family strip. People who are homosexual have families, too.I once knew a family of ultra-conservatives who were so screwed up that the only normal kid was the homosexual boy. Homosexuality is a population control device of ol’ Ma Nature. It’s not a “choice”, it’s biology. It is estimated that 40 percent of sea gulls form same sex unions. Oh, we are not sea gulls? Well our closest ape relatives are bonobos. If you don’t know about them, check out their sexual habits. They invented “Make Love, Not War.”

2This is, regrettably, a true “yawn-fest” for me today. The arc is spinning into the territory I specifically had hoped it not to go:I predict that as others have suggested, next week (or whenever it is resumed), Pru will have a stern talking to with Quill about not letting Luann know of Pru’s orientation. This will then lead to Quill recognizing the “folly” of his ways and a “very special” reconciliation will then transpire between Quill and Luann… and we will be back at square one with the two of them. The very hard part to understand in the above scenario, is why should Quill have to tell Luann of Pru’s orientation? It is a private matter, and is not (IMO) his right or responsibility to tell others about. If a person’s orientation is so important in any situation… it is the right and responsibility of that person (in this case, Pru) to give out that information if he/she wishes to do so. To me, the knowledge or lack of knowledge about Pru’s orientation should have had no bearing on Quill and Luann. But, it did, because Luann was jealous, did not communicate well with Quil, and Quill was unaware, and when he finally did become aware, he too was non-communicative. I so (deep sarcasm) look forward to Luann and Quill being a lovey-dovey couple again.

Wonder if the “survey man” is tracking today’s responses. A lot of new voices popping up with strong opinions. For my part…I’ll take chocolate.

Or, may I suggest, they get more and more “bored” with the tediousness of life (or comics). Hence “Yawn fest”. You’re even bored with what you think will happen! I agree with the sentiments as this isn’t an excuse to cover quill… the problem really wasn’t pru, ultimately the problem was he couldn’t be bothered to make time for her.

As for gays having families, I graduated from high school with a guy who married and fathered two children. After years of therapy and a divorce, he decided to do the complete change and become female. “She” still has some interests that more men that women prefer, but she has interests that more women than men prefer. In other words, she is as human as the rest of us. She is simply no longer the gender she was born as, but she is still the wonderful person she was when she was a he. As for this no longer being a family strip, are you aware of what is going on in elementary schools today?

It is Pru’s life, so is hers to tell, not Quill’s, BUT Quill could very easily have asked Pru if he could tell Luann. He apparently did not do so, which fits completely with Luann being less and less and less important in his life, and with him spending less and less and less time with her. Therefore, it is just another part of his passive drift away.

Maybe it is time for Luann to take a trip to say Australia. Something ws said about getting a life. She should go on an adventure of some sort.

Because Pru understands why Bernice went on the attack and will let the whole thing drop. I like Pru.

I know I will get sarcastically slammed as a Trufan, which I cop to but try to be objectively positive (hmm, like that) but I think this strip does a brilliant job of summing up the confusion here. From all three sides, four if you consider that Quill did not have enough depth of character to try to find out what really was eating his gf, rather than falling into the trap of oh “its my career” when she asked him basically to chose. From long, long experience I can tell you when a woman who is interested in you asks a man (I suppose this is true in gay relationships too) to chose between her, and another woman, or another passion, he needs to have his damn ears open, because the wrong answer may terminate the relationship forever. Pru did not have any idea what was going on between Quill and Luann, Bernice did not have any idea what was really going on, Luann was actually more concerned with the choice I talked about, rather than Pru, so is really surprised about the revelation about Pru being a “lesbian thespian.” This strip explains it all, lack of communication, but then you have to look at why each character was so blind or deaf to not communicate, or hear or see what really was going on.

If I concede that MPQ thought that it was not his place to disclose Pru’s orientation, then that leaves us with Q just not caring about Luann’s feelings. She has always been needy. Maybe he was tired of her, but didn’t want to be the one to pull the plug. And I still think, “You’ll be back”, is the jerkiest thing he could have possibly said at that point. Would it have killed him to say “I’m sorry” or “You’re right”?

Nice twist. Still makes Quill a jerk but at least there’s hopes for a new gal pal.

Why does it even matter if Pru is gay? Quill maintained they were just friends, which is all that matters. If Luann thought there was something between them, that means she doesn’t trust him and therefore there is no hope for the relationship. The point is Quill preferred spending time with her over Luann. .And if Luann thought Pru had something to do with her deteriorating relationship with Quill why would she be snuggling in Pru’s arms for comfort? .Bernice is the one and the only one who thought Pru had something to do with it.

Okay, not the stale bridge mix, but since i can not have steroids (due to advanced glaucoma in one eye and glaucoma in the other) during my bad pollen seasons i have to stay in during those months except when it rains. (I am back on sublingual immunotherapy to get past that.). Also, when i had well over a year of being unable to focus my eyes together (after the filtration bleb was created on my worse eye) i gained a lot of weight since the unrelenting low grade nausea from that feels like persistent strong tubby aching hunger.

Quill didn’t tell her because HE DIDNT KNOW and has been harboring a quiet crush for PRU all along!!

It WAS his place to tell when he knew Luann was having anxiety about his seeing or talking to Pru on the phone quite too often and dropping Luann to go to do something with Pru if you remember those times. Quill could have told her to calm her worries that Pru was making moves on her guy. But Quill never bothered to so he is a jerk, allowing Luann to continue to worry especially with Pru living in the same house with her. Pru’s sexual orientation is relevant to their relationship thus Luann needed to know.

It might be too early to say, but I think the Evans have pulled this off! Luann can move on to more interesting things. Pru becomes more likable, Bernice gets a lesson in jumping to conclusions, and … some interesting plot developments are still in the mix. Will Piro help Tiffany mature?

My guess is that Quill didn’t know that Pru was a lesbian. He isn’t always the most perceptive person. In addition, when Gunther mentioned that Quill seemed to have time for Pru, Quill didn’t defend himself by saying that Pru was gay:And, more to the point, Quill said to Luann, “I don’t know how else to tell you: Pru’s a friend!” Well, “Pru’s a lesbian” might have been an even more effective way of convincing Luann to trust him with Prudence:

I never thought Donald Trump would LAST this long. It shows I’m clearly the LAST person to give political advice. .I always thought being caught lying would be the LAST gasp of a political hope. Christmas break started last Friday. Mine was the last school bus parked in the county because I covered a route in the south end of the county before heading back to the north end. These kids are a wealth of behavioural information. There are subcultures in all communities. Some are recognized, others — politely — are not.

I had a behavior tech on the bus with me. Her job is to defuse social interaction explosion situations. In many ways she was useful but in others her culture actually resonated with the situation. She frequently told them they needed to behave because she had places she needed to be. Her urgency fed their need for entertainment, leading them to act in ways to continue the entertainment.

Even when I explain the result, most can’t break conditioning.

Related to previous notes, my nephew called from prison to verify his father had died a month and a half earlier. He has had problems breaking conditioning. His microculture was just that of his mother, sister, brother and self, strongly twisted by mother. I don’t really know all the details, just see the results in warped lives and thinking.
