So, Fogarty finally married Miss Phelps and the strip finally will have another man and wife married couple of no fixed abnormality.
The best coinciding Tiffany could use.
~~~
So…. if we don’t get back to the lingerie left at the Fuse, it was never left there in the first place. It never happened and these are not the plot clues you are looking for.
Mrs. Fogarty. I guess we didn’t get invited to that wedding. I wonder if Evans is doing one of those “Boy Meets World” things where the teacher moves from school to school as the students do. Will we find Mrs. Fogarty working as a counselor for Moony University?
So … none of that eagerly-expected hanky-panky with Les in Tiff’s room. The counterfeit lingerie scam and its perpetrator fading into history. But more – looks like much more – talking about feelings. No surprises here.
For a bit, I thought, in’t it MR Fogarty? Then, I went back and forth on whether he was the teacher or coach. Then I caught the mrS, so I went okay, Mr. Fogarty’s wife. Was she ever in the strip? It wasn’t until I came here that I realized I forgot that Miss Phelps married Mr Fogarty. The Miss Phelps Bernice aspired to become after graduating high school….and Tiffany is going to see her? Quite curious.
So, Tiffany is over her disappointment that her father is even less supportive than ever, Ann rides off into the sunset to scam another day, and alls well that ends. So how come I feel like punching someone’s lights out?
Would Mrs. Fogarty have info on Leslie’s mother, aka Ann? Is that where this is going? That story line has to come to an end, I won’t be left hanging or will stop reading strip.
Oh please tell me we’re talking about Miss Phelps getting married, and not doing the “character has a never-before-mentioned family member in the exact same career field as them, so as to perform the same function in the narrative” cliché. And yes, that’s a real thing. Give me some time and I can come up with plenty of examples.
Assuming it’s Miss Phelps, I find it funny how Tiffany knows and the others don’t, especially after Bernice pulled that smug little “I’ve been paying attention to the real world and you haven’t” crap on Luann.
I never thought Miss Phelps/Fogarty was very effective as a hs counselor. She never seemed to help Luann. She was most effective at having different words/phrases on her name plate on the desk. Kind of fun, though, to see some of the old characters re-introduced on occasion. Wouldn’t mind seeing Brad and Toni again some day.
Whoa wait the counselor got married to the teacher!? Interesting. I bet the perspective will have changed for Tiffany and Mrs. Fogarty will not seem to be such an unsatisfied old fogey like she was drawn in high school. To what end? We see. Maybe Tiffany needs to detach from daddy and let him learn, to his sorrow about Ann, although he may be a cutthroat businessman so that would be good for Tiffany, and not such an issue about Ann.
Tiffany always got along well with Ms Phelps. She gave Ms Phelps relationship tips and how to improve her feminine appeal. I think Tiff was at their wedding. No surprise Tiff is seeking her out right now.
Kinda surprised no one else has mentioned this, but the look on Luann’s face in the last panel indicates that she knows a lot more about what Tiffany is up to than any of us do.
OK, TBH, I didn’t think “Ms. Phelps married to Mr. Fogarty…” at first. I thought Mrs. Fogarty being someone else… either totally unrelated to our “Mr. Fogarty” or, perhaps, Mr. Fogarty’s wife that we never met. Although, it would be interesting to see how the Phelps/Fogarty team would react to Tiff as an “adult” and to her “physical changes…” Also, it might be a way to re-introduce Phelps/Fogarty to the strip, as they did provide good “comic relief.” After all, Mr. Fogarty was Greg’s first real character. Luann came afterwards. Perhaps, Phelps did marry Fogarty and is moonlighting as a private counselor. After all, Tom Farrell did double Tiff’s “counseling budget.” So, maybe that’s how it’s going to work out. The next arc will be Tiff’s sessions with “Mrs. Fogarty…” Hmmmmmm……. :) Maybe this will explain why she seems to be doing better… emotionally, at least.
Ultimately, I hope Tiff does reconcile with her father and that he rejects Ann. That said, it is possible that Tiff has made the decision to “divorce” her father. It does happen. If the parent child relationship is so toxic to the child, if there was never a “loving” relationship at the foundation, it’s probably better that they do go their separate ways. Although, it usually happens after the child becomes financially independent of their parent. Unless Tiff cut a very risky deal with Les (which I doubt, since he really isn’t in a position to offer her financial security yet), she is still dependent on her father for financial support, albeit allowance cut in half. Maybe Les got Al Gray to pick up Tiff’s tab. I actually hope not, because I don’t want the Les/Tiff deal to have any traction, whatsoever. It’s either Tiff with Gunther or someone else.
Anyway, I look forward to see if we see “Mrs. Fogarty” again!
So Tiff is off to see whom we expect is Margo Phelps, high school counselor and teachers’ lounge romance of Mr. Phelps. Not someone you’d expect Tiffany to seek out. But what if “Mrs” Phelps is really Melodee Manezon, the theater lady? Like Nancy Sinatra once sang, “they got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout…..” Whatever, she’s more in line with what Tiffany’s interest would be. The lights, the stage, the accolades.
How about this. Tiffany’s dad let her pick her own therapist and gave her the money to pay for the sessions. Tiffany’s replacing the therapist with Mrs. Fogarty and pocketing the money meant for her therapy.
If indeed the reference is to high school counselor Phelps, that’s great. Of the many past characters, she is one that should remain a part of the continuity. As opposed to Aaron Hill, whose glib personality is best suited for Luann Againn reruns.
Do you want to know what’s more satstifying than Miss Phelps marrying Mr. Fogarty? Tiffany besting Luann and Bernice by thinking she was going to be as depressed as last time and now being happy.
“Mrs. Fogarty” might not be the former Miss Phelps as expected, because why would Tiffany particularly want to see her, and why would Miss Phelps want to see Tiffany? Besides Tiffany being a bad student, Phelps used to pester Tiffany for not dressing modestly.
I don’t know, perhaps it’s an old lady who is Mr. Fogarty’s mother.
I’m annoyed at what I perceive to be the Evanses’ lack of regard for the reader’s [read: my] memory. Of course all readers who have read this strip (or even read about it) for any length of time know “Fogarty” is the name of the teacher who loves a counselor named Miss Phelps.
Fogerty and Phelps were an ‘item’ (implied or overt) in H.S. Probably hitched after the exit of the frantic milieu of Luannverse kids gave them some free time to socialize.
WOW. Tiff looks hot. What we used to call a big bunch of hubba.
Tiff alluded to a counselor budget from daddy. Maybe Mrs. Fogerty nee Phelps has gone commercial.
Now Dez only needs the three cups she brought for tea.
Luann and Bernice’s expressions are somewhat ambiguous and puzzling. Is Luann thinking “Oh, that’s a great idea.” or “Oooo… I didn’t see that coming.”?
Meanwhile, when Ann returns to the Fuse to remove her counterfeit evidence, no one will be the wiser because no one had the presence of mind to say anything. But we made tea. If we’re lucky, Mrs. Fogarty is a detective.
Would that be the former Miss Phelps, now married (behind our backs, so to speak) to Mr. Fogarty? Note that we have only speculation from Dez to suggest that this Mrs. Fogarty is a counselor. She could be a lawyer, a cop, a local representative of Souffle Lingerie Inc., or any of a number of additional things. All that seems apparent is that Tiffany is surprisingly upbeat about this rapid turn of events.
I am hooked for Monday; don’t shift arcs now, Greg and Karen!
Something has made Tiff feeling suddenly upbeat. I wanted to speculate that she’ll ask for relationship advice (Les vs Gunther) or maybe advice on choosing a major or a career. I was expecting to see her back in the grey sweats. Boy was I wrong and probably I’m way off base here too.
About time! Glad to see the old confident high school Tiff back. Guessing she’s gonna be getting career advice and how to avoid more school drama. Unfortunatly she is gonna have a hard time affording meds and counseling outside of college unless she really sucks up to her dad, so hope this is a permanent attitude change for her. Luann and Bernice look like they just got there pity project taken away. They’ll find someone else to fix though. Shoot, Tiff may even be able to hire them out of college if she starts a business now.
