Love, love, love this arc! I was lucky enough to see Hamilton in NYC a year after it opened – after my daughter got me hooked on the original cast album. I maybe slightly obsessed. I’m one of those people that will slip lines from Hamilton into conversations.

I just want to say about Hamilton: I despised rap. I despised hip hop. But my sister made me listen to the whole thing, and I’ve seen enough clips to get what it looks like, and now I’ve listened to it several times and I love it. And it forced me to admit that rap and hip hop can be ART.

GUYS GUYS GUYS late yesterday afternoon I got the AWSUMEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!! M’s roommate forwarded me a pic of M FULLY AWAKE & with only a nasal cannula! Even the oxygen mask is gone now! Her hair is a fright wig but her eyes are bright, her color is good, & she’s starting to lose the puffiness she had due to all the fluid buildup. She was even smiling. YAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

re: the thread above on rap — Rap is amazing and powerful protest music. And unfairly painted as crude and obscene due to a few practitioners who probably would have ruined any genre they wrote in. Just as in Hamilton (i’m guessing, because before this thread i hadn’t realized the musical was written in this style), if you don’t listen to/read the lyrics of rap you don’t realize what a powerful vehicle rap is for decrying injustice. The history and usage of rap is very probably the reason Lin Manuel Miranda chose rap for his vehicle when giving voice to revolutionaries and insurgents. Long live the Revolution.
