Lupin is such a great helper! I wonder if cats have something to do with the bugs in initial releases of almost everything?

The only way Lupin could possibly be more helpful is if he had a tiny mallet, and began a game of Whack-a-Mole with the Man’s keybored …

Jasper used to climb up onto the back of my computer chair and hang off my shoulder like that. Then he would use gravity to help him slowly slide down between my back and the back of the chair effectively pushing me out of my own chair.

Thena, my first kitty ever, loved to sit on the back of my CRT monitor and drape her cream-tipped paw artfully over the middle of the screen (or wherever I was looking most frequently). When flat monitors started coming out I put a box behind my first one so she could sit on that, though she didn’t like it quite as much; possibly since it wasn’t a heat source like the CRT had been.

I’ve been working from home the past month as a teacher and at times my cats have been amusing as the kids I teach ask questions about them when they jump in view of the web cam and that is pretty cool! However, when I am writing up a report on Word or updating a class spreadsheet on Excel, 3 of my cats does have the uncanny knack of somehow hitting a button that deletes data, makes me have to do a re-write or in some other way manages to turn what should be a 10 minute task into a 30 minute one……. My daughter is home from FSU during the lock down here in Tampa, FL but still doing classes online and she actually has had the same issues so the felines are equal opportunity gremlins for us nouveau cyber workers….. Its a strange new world for some of us Gen-xers, when I was my daughter’s age we used a key punch machine for Computer Science 101 for natural science majors and Apple had just come out with the first MacIntosh in 1984 (with the cool Pink Floyd Super bowl commercial) while I had a Commodore 64 in the freshman dormitory…. Jesus, time flies!

With Lupin “helping” him, I think we need to redefine the Puck’s term “working.” Perhaps “attempting to work” would be more appropriate.

I have 2 assistants. But I’m retired so I’m always home. But they used to be accustomed to getting treats at 1pm when I would leave for the afternoon for my boyfriends home. But now with the isolation, the first few weeks the girls couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t following their schedule!

Yum Yum is a very dedicated assistant. She likes to surf and gets extremely annoyed because none of her sites exist.

    Off Topic: Paul

He sees our family physician at the clinic this afternoon. I am hoping that, once she sees him, she will expedite his admission. He has been admonished sternly that when he is admitted, he is to stay where he is put, even if it means that he is in a hallway!

I am working from home. I have a small furry assistant/secretary (Ms. Holly-Berry – Tabby Kitten, 8 months old) who runs my home office.

→ The dinning room is now the home office.

→ I moved my comfortable desk chair into said ‘office’ only to have it taken from me by Ms. Holly-Berry. I am now on a wood table chair.

→Ms. Holly-Berry insists on reviewing all printed materials that is put into the recycle box. She pulls out the discarded paper to make crinkle sounds.

→Ms. Holly-Berry lets me know when I have typed something wrong by walking across the keyboard.

→ Ms. Holly-Berry must be present at all Zoom conference calls. She will turn her rear-end to the phone camera when the other party has made a foolish statement.

→ Ms. Holly-Berry will tell me when the mouse cursor on the screen is in the wrong spot by leaping at it and trying to point where it should be.

→ Coffee breaks, lunch breaks or bathroom breaks are taken only with her permission.

I have to go now. She is here and reading what I wrote. I think a ;lks;fnm;klasvnaz’dspfe=-rw

Oh, give me a home where the kitty-cats roam

Where Lupin helps with work as I pray

that no outage occurs ‘cuz he don’t heed my words

And the coffee keeps perking all day

    Home, home with the deranged

Where my assistant Lupin’s at play

Where seldom is heard a discouraging word

So my work is impeded all day

How often I might with my laptop so bright

See the light at the end of my work

But I sat here amazed and thought as I gazed

How empty life’d be without that cute, lovable jerk!

Ember mostly just thinks I’m a nuisance. My workstation (I have both my home and work computers connected at the same spot) is smack in between two windows, and I hinder her patrol as she guards the yard from invaders such as birds, bugs, the trash men, runners, or, Cat forbid, the black cat from across the street.

OT: today, 4/20, is the MIL’s birthday. She is highly annoyed by the stay-at-home order (and continues to try to get our permission to break it by flying to North Carolina; we’ve told her no). On the other hand, there’s also the fact that she lives in the general vicinity of Civic Center Park in Denver, so … ah … going outside today may not be entirely advisable, at least during the 4:00 hour.

Look in the back of the hallway closet for an old CRT monitor. Set it up and the warmth will draw Lupin to it as honey draws flies.

I’ve learned to never use my laptop on my bed because one of my cats, Cassidy, loves to try and crawl between me and the screen! My girl, Tigger does not care at all about my laptop, but she loves to jump onto my computer chair, whenever I get up to do something! My brother’s Cat, Tiger, reminds me of Dee Dee from, Dexter’s Laboratory! What does this button do? Oooooooh, what’s that! What happens if I press this!

I finally got a chance yesterday to watch Georgia’s draw along YouTube video. It was fun. I posted my attempts at drawing the boys:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Lmr7kpTOm/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

I think Puck turned out the best. Since I used just standard ink pens for the inking part I did have some issues with the ink smearing when I was trying to erase the pencil. I think Puck turned out best. If you search the hashtag #bcnart20 on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter you can find other peoples drawings.

Harry Chapin: Cat’s in the Cradle

Sat down to work, and then right away,

Lupin jumped on the keyboard and wanted to play,

But with work to do and plans to make,

It felt like there was an earthquake!

And he was right in front of the screen,

    And before I knew,

He said, I’m your new assistant, yeah

    And I’m gonna help you!

    …….

And the cat’s on the keyboard and in the coffee, too!

The Cat of Adventure and the Man Doing Work,

    When ya gonna nap, Cat

    I don’t know when,

But I will help you again, man,

We’re gonna have a good time then!

Today is Lima Bean Respect Day. Respect, certainly, very useful crop. Like? Never! It’s their texture, like little disks of sand, or dried bugs (Don’t ask.) I don’t eat lima beans. “Food” eats lima beans. YMMV.

How many great American novels were not written because of kitty assistants? I was lucky during my writing career to only have a golden retriever sleeping behind me. She would only interfere when there was a dog in a scene, and I could feel her cold, jealous glare from across the room. No one can tell me that dogs can’t read our minds.

In the “days of yore”, I wrote on a typewriter. I had a Siamese with literary aspirations and would find him sitting in front on the typewriter with all the keys jammed up. Eventually, I bought an unjammable IBM Selectric. Well, he couldn’t jam it but the writing… Poor plot structure, too many pointless arguments – disappointingly cat-centric. That’s Siamese for you.
