When CV19 hit this country like a train, many people started comparing to the H1N1 outbreak of 2009. I turned to one person I trust the most to find out if the two health crises were comparable: my brother, a board certified emergency physician and chief medical officer of a hospital in New York State. This is what he said in April:

Just for the record, H1N1 was blamed for 12,549 from April 2009 to April 2010 according to the CDC. CV19 has been blamed for 102,785 deaths by the CDC.

Those who don’t believe in science have every right to put their own lives at risk.

They don’t have the right to put others’ lives at risk.

African Americans right now are out in the street protesting that “I CAN’T BREATHE” because a racist cop with a history of police brutality against blacks murders a former black co-worker, and poor, pathetic entitled, privileged white spoiled little babies are whining about “freedom” because someone (boo hoo) simply asks them to put on a face mask to protect others.

And yes, indeed, it is Darwin at work. Those who are least likely to recognize the science of Darwin are trying hardest to self-select to prove him right.

If only Darwin were right, this time. But they’re apt to give it to people who do believe in science, as well.

Never has ‘instant karma’ been a more apt phrase. Demonstrate or party in a large unprotected group, wait two to two and a half weeks, watch COVID-19 cases rise in the same area.

News is moving so fast, looks like Trudeau missed out on the fact that massive public demonstrations against police brutality are perfectly justified and apparently infection with covid from mass gatherings with no social distancing isn’t an issue worth mentioning anymore!

It’s good that it was only cops’ knees on a neck. If someone had kneeled at a football game, that would be an outrage.

Science is not something you believe in or not, it’s about facts, you accept them , or you do not.

What saddens me the most, is their virulent defense of ignorance.

Ignorance is not a grace and should not be treasured.

I have often had the thought that something Darwinian was at work here, and I dared to hope it when election time came around again. I’ve never actually said it before now, because I thought it would sound too mean-spirited. Apparently, I’m not the only one who feels this way.

It’s what I have been saying for weeks. If you don’t believe in science, you suffer the consequences. On the bright side, it means that many fewer Trump voters come November.

It always helps to remember that by definition half the American public are below average in intelligence. It’s a shame they’re this far below.

I saw the opening panels and honestly thought it was about the looting going on in US citizens last night.

Those healthy young people who believe that the Trump plague is no match for their immune system need to remember several things.

1. You are infecting people when you have no symptoms at all. This includes your family and people who actually matter to other people even if they don’t to you.

2. When you overestimate your immune system, or underestimate the plague, you wind up competing for a respirator and other materials needed by those who developed the disease because they were essential workers.

3. You are endangering the medical workers who have to care for you and the people that you infect. They are already risking their lives. What right have you to add to their jeopardy because you need a haircut?

4. Many viruses remain within the cells of your body. We don’t know that this is one of them, but it’s not unlikely. They wait there until your body’s immune system is no longer strong enough to keep them in check. That could happen when you are older, or in the car wreck you have next week. Then, with their new assistance, they come back in full force.

My son is an RN. He treats Trump plague patients, and has watched them suffer greatly, then often die. He has assured me that there is no possibility of taking this thing too seriously. If you think a mask is a problem, you are not thinking this thing through clearly.

It’s these people more than Trump that make me feel profoundly embarrassed to call myself American.

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

We have too many laws cuz people are too lazy, selfish, &/or stupid to govern their own behavior.

Until Darwin, virtually nothing said by any homo sapiens had real meaning – it was all speculation. There was one exception – in Ecclesiastes : “The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong..CHANCE governeth all.” The presence of Trump in the White House proves that. Humanity, in general, will learn from “the virus”. Unfortunately, the group that will learn the most, by refusing to follow health guidelines, will lose the most; their lives. It’s a shame they will go to their grave kicking and screaming “Our civil rights are being violated”.

PPE works. We know this because health care workers and 1st responders are getting the virus at a much lower rate than the general public even though they work directly with Covid-19 patients. The fact that this is even up for discussion in our country should be embarrassing to Americans. My parents lived through the Depression and WWII. They lived in the rural south and had to pick cotton and eat canned beans 3 times a day in order to survive. Later on, my father benefited from the GI bill and was able to go to college and my mother was able to teach because at that time, so long ago, you could get a teaching certificate if you could pass a test. She went to college and got her degrees later on as well. They made many sacrifices. Their generation suffered greatly. Now, we are being asked to wear a mask when going out in public and to avoid crowds. I think most of us should be able to do that. It is not a matter of just all or nothing. You do not have to just stay in at all times. However, make smart choices. When going out, wear masks, keep hand sanitizer at the ready, or wear gloves, etc. Personally, I am avoiding large box stores, I go to the smaller ones or shop online. I am not going to the hairdresser or the mall. Even before the pandemic, I had a tendency to just shop online, as it was always more convenient, in my opinion. I think people need to stop acting as if this is a question of all or nothing, since it isn’t. Make smart choices. Use your head. Don’t be sloppy. Then, if you still get sick, you will at least know that you did your best to protect yourself and your family and community.

For those so-called Christians who believe that they need to worship in a packed church, I would posit that the only ones who want a full house are the greedy ministers who are losing money without those collection plates being passed around.

If you really believe in your God, then you don’t need a building to worship in. YOU ARE A CHURCH /SYNAGOGUE/MOSQUE!!

Devotions and prayers are individual and begin within.

Stay home and examine your own consciences … You might be surprised and disappointed at what you find.

Unfortunately, there will be collateral damage. Innocent people who believe in the rules and science will also inevitably be infected by the people who believe it is a hoax. More will die because of their actions.

Doonesbury started in ‘70, the pandemic of 1968 was winding down. We had the same numbers of the dead, we just didn’t have the publicity… Looking at the world today I can see the publicity does make a difference!

do tyur thing, if you choose not to wear mask fine. if you choose to congregate in masses unprotected amonst those who are also unprorected go a ahead. the demonstrators who have protested the last 4 days are, you will all be the ones to suffer the consequences of your actions so do it to it if you choose….i choose not to partake.

Trump Gate = 104,000 dead from a virus that could have been stopped by testing and tracing. 25% of the workforce unemployed, riots, rampant racism, the USA virtually shut down.

If the state can require you to wear your eyeglasses in the interests of public safety while operating a vehicle, I see no problem with having to wear a mask for the public good during a pandemic that has killed over 100,000 Americans. Go ahead and wear a mask. If you don’t wear a mask because you want people to know you’re an independent-minded a__hole, just write “a__hole” on your mask.

Imagine if the colors were reversed, with three Black cops standing there and the fourth with his knee on the neck of a White guy for eight minutes. You think any White people wouldn’t see a problem with that? Colin Kaepernick “taking a knee” calls on everyone to value humanity while anyone who that can “kneel” like this show no sense of humanity whatever.
