There was no reason to travel before the camera was invented.

It’s nice to travel and get to know other countries and get to know their monuments, but I think it’s also necessary to know a little about those monuments and those countries.

Not much point in experiencing other cultures. Most of them are just as disgusting as your own, and the rest are worse. And I speak from experience.

My stepsisters and I get jealous of when my older brother goes on these foreign excursions with his [flight attendant] wife and posts the sites on Facebook. No foreign excursions for a while not just because of the pandemic, but also she’s on maternity leave (she’s due any day now with my second-born nephew).

Rat travels in his dream. He has no intention of interacting with people or experiencing culture when he can photoshop himself in the pictures.

I have traveled to Italy, Europe, Africa and America since the 70s.I have taken thousands of photos but there are not more than 5 in which I am.

Did rat travel with someone who took pictures of him?

Rat’s not doing it to show off where he’s been, he does it to show that he’s a good liar that knows how to use Photoshop.

Bob, ya don’t have to be so bitter. Anyway, I feel as though showing off is more of a Goat thing.

Not to worry about where Rat gets the funds for travel……They are nortorious for their ability to stow-away on ships and planes

And this is me opening up Photo Shop. So I’m wearing the same clothes in all the shots…I like to be consistent.

Facebook exists purely to show off your travel photos, your new house or car and children/grandchildren/puppies.

It seems to me that the man’s coffee keeps moving itself. I know that’s probably not the case, but it’s what my eye perceives it as.

That’s what Facebook is for. “Having a great time. Don’t you wish you were here?”

I know I have some of the Acropolis, but don’t believe that I’m in them. Maybe some of the people that I was traveling with. I’d have to go looking through old photo albums, that was in the 1980s.

I just never got into the taking pictures of the places you travel to thing, though, regardless of who was in them. I was too busy looking at things to take pictures of them most of the time. I’m not saying that’s a good thing; it would be nice to have some pictures to remind me now. But at least I have what I can remember without them.

I think about this all the time when I travel. It’s always sort of sad to me that my travel friends just jump for the pictures first instead of taking in the experience. That’s where the memories are.

When traveling, buy post cards, they were taken the right time, right weather, right lighting. – as for pictures, take them of the friend(s) you were with, with you being in some – just to recall the good time you had.

Other cultures that have Starbucks, McDonald’s, and internet access to what you browse at home.

I haven’t been more than 20 miles from home since January. Getting that ‘Traveling Jones’.

Currently, the only way anybody can have those photos for the foreseeable future is either with a Zoom background or a virtual tour’s screenshot.

I fight against Her inclinations on this, but my constant endeavor is to always be a traveler; never a tourist.

Sad to read so many comments about the negativity of travel and the lack of desire to travel. I was lucky enough to be assigned to NATO and travel throughout Italy, Greece, Turkey and visit the UK and Belgium. Got to meet interesting people, eat and drink great local foods/beverages and see all the places Rat visited. After that, as a civilian, I was invited to go to Sweden where I met my future wife and later we have toured (on our own) much of Italy and most of Canada, the continental USA and the 49th and 50th states. Glad all of that was before the virus. Cannot imagine international flights without alcohol. LOL

Ironically, I spent a lifetime working and traveling around this planet but have very few personal photographs to show for it. Much of my travel memories involve working in a particular place. Even touring or cruising was work-related.

Never left the continent. The Canadian Air Force shut down European Base before I could get transfer and a company was going to send me to Columbia, Chad and Turkey (in the 60’s) but cancelled at last minute I ended up on Baffin Island for 10 years.

I got to see some of southern Europe. I was in the US Navy working tours and traveled by submarine,

I don’t quite have that one person’s travel proficiency, but I also am in few of my own photos from trips as well. I just documenting where I’ve been.

I was in the Navy. I saw lots of water.

I rarely take pictures when I travel. I want the experience. I can view many and better pictures on line. I never look at the ones I do take.

To paraphrase Woody Allen: “Europe is nice, but needs paint”…

The practice of excessive selfie-taking, then posting your picture all over the place seems conceited to me.

I wonder if a tourist in Kazakhstan made a selfie in front of McBurger while holding in view a Molly McButter container (whether or not opened); Molly McButter was in hot water with Mcdonald’s even though its name didn’t look connected with McDonald’s (McBurger had less of an excuse, though it was shielded from American copyright law.

Hit the nail on the head with the second part of that question.

Rat: The archetypical ugly American.

I spent 30 years in the Navy, I have traveled to over 30 countries, my view is what happens in an Liberty Port stays in that Liberty Port.

Bob doesn’t even need to say that he’s late. Rat won’t notice until there’s no ‘m-hm’ after the next round of display.

To get a picture in front of Big Ben he must have broken into the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster. Big Ben is the largest bell in that tower.

Play nice, Neighbor Bob! Remember, you are expendable; there are lots of replacement Neighbor Bobs waiting their turn in the strip!

There are two schools of thought on vacation pictures. Mine used to be Neighbor Bob’s until my mom passed away. She loved to travel and had so many pictures from her trips overseas, I had to sort through them to decide which ones to keep. That’s when I adopted Rat’s school of thought and kept the pics with Mom at this French winery or that fountain in Rome. Wineries and fountains weren’t what I wanted to remember.
