Jack’s name should be “Randy”… in the English sense.

While taking a break from his extended exercise routine Jack continues to spout nonsense about exercise being good for mental health.

“She needs to get out of her head, you know, get physical.”

So many double-entendres here. It made me get out of my head.

Jack said almost exactly the same what I said a few days ago. To you naysayers, Jack IS interested in Bernice. Luann is just a friend to him. Next, Luann will ask for ideas on how to get Bernice out of her head and live (this is what I said and Jack says ‘physical’. Luann at work as Cupid.

Why is Luann looking at Jack out of the corner of her eye?

Way is Luann talking about sex.

Luann knows what Bernice needs…..JACK!and I don’t mean Daniels.

Luann picked up on Jack’s double entendre and seems to be pushing for her friend, Bernie, to move into the fast lane of having her brains adjusted by Jack. When it comes to that, between Luann and Bernice, it is like watching a car race to see who can get to the finish line the slowest. Not that I am in any hurry to see them cross that finish line.

This week reminds me of Monty Python’s “wink wink nudge nudge” bit. No one knows what it’s like, but they sure enjoy making suggestions about it.

Jack is being sincere. He’s thoughtful, and hopefully, a bit horny. (How refreshing, for a change) Luann, however, is just trying to be glib. She is not yet qualified for serious, young adult conversation. Tiffany would make a much better matchmaker-coach.

Jack was playing the role of a Good Samaritan with Bernice. Jack`s act of kindness unintentionally trigger a emotional response from Bernice. Luann probably reveal Bernice’s state of mind.

1) I doubt Jack has any serious romantic interests in any of the girls. (See my reply to broncalo8.)

2) Luann has never really shown a love interest towards Jack, probably something to do with the art class.

3) Bernice is obviously very attracted to Jack’s physique, but I think she will end up being disappointed.

Bernice might be able to get him interested in her if she does what Luann is not willing to do- start exercising with Jack.

I’m kind of glad Jack has become a regular. He had been developed into a well-rounded personality. Not missing Nil.

“Gee, Jack. Why don’t You invite Bernice to join you in your Rigorous Phyiscal fitness regimen? And in turn, She can help with Your college studies?”

Come on Lu. SAY it, and let’s set the “drama” in motion. ;)

Luann looks smart and sexy in her profile view (third frame). Looks like she IS trying to set up Bernice with Jack. Bern is attracted to Jack. Bern & Jack both seem kinda in their own world – so maybe mutually beneficial. I would like to see Bern make the first move.

I think Jack is one of those guys who has no idea when he’s being hit on unless it’s obvious, but every girl he chases turns out to be a disappointment. Stuck in his head.

When Luann finally gets tired of waiting for Jack to make a move, she’ll take the initiative only to discover why he’s still just a friend. He already has a girl in Peru named Rosa…

They should change the name of this comic strip from Luan to devils advocate, I am starting to dislike this strip, it continuously insinuates things not so uh… ethical,,,

Jack is such a nice guy♡. He’s worried for Bernice and want her to be happy. Luann knows how stressful her bestie is and help her everytime she can. Bernice sure has fantastic friends ♡. I wonder how they will help her be more physical. Years ago, Jack invented them to do indoor climbing. Maybe it’s time to repeat the invitation.

Finally getting Jack to stop exercising, Luann moves on to submarining any interest he might have had in Bernice (which is the real reason she came to the dog park to see him today).

On the slightly more serious side (not much) If this is “the set up” I tend to agree with Mordy that to work it would require a lot of work and most of it with Ms. Halper needing to open herself up to life, something she’s been reluctant to do. The question becomes, is Jack a significant or traumatic event in her life? At her age either could cause her to work with Jack. Otherwise, rinse and repeat of her time with Nil.

I think Bernice would love for Jack to get physical with her! He’s already in her head! ;o)

Jack is not so much a stereotypical dumb jock as he just doesn’t always know what he’s saying. Does that make sense?

Physical exercise doesn’t exercise the mind and isn’t the cure all for everything.

Luann needs to get physical. “Physician, heal thy self.”

Well here’s the shift in dialogue so many had been expecting. Maybe the next two days Luann will make Bernice’s infatuation with Jack overt to him.

It would be great to see some development along this line.

This seems nicer… Luann seems to be backing away from developing her own romantic interest in Jack (let’s hope it stays that way…. but I could see it re-emerging if Bernice and Jack do hit it off)…. and is currently now appearing to try to coax Jack into asking Bernice on a “date” of sorts to exercise. That is a first step.

If Bernice accepts Jack’s offer, though…. will Greg use the arc to a) show a very nonathletic Bernice struggle just for comedic intent, b) show that Bernice’s determination to do athletics like Jack suggests and it opens up a whole new side to Bernice as she becomes athletically inclined, c) allow further romantic sparks to develop between Jack and Bernice, d) two of the above, or e) all of the above?

If you cannot guess, I have been writing exam questions today. :)

Several commenters remark about the double entendres in the strip. In fact, Greg has often employed double entendres in encounters between Jack and Luann.

These kinds of encounters caused many of us to believe Jack was going to be the next romantic character for Luann.

Ah, there it is and only took four days! Nice that Jack asked about Bernice before Luann mentioned her. Are we in for more innuendos or an actual resolution?

Well, Jack, that might be good advice for all of us. Especially now.

Go on, Luann! Tell him how Bernice loved to get physical with him.

Oh, as though Luann has any idea what she’s talking about? She’s never done much more than an innocent smooch, even with Quill-from-Down-Under….

Funny, I took Jack’s comment as a reflection on Olivia Newton’s song “Physical,” from way back when. It was constantly taken out of context, but, the bottom line was, it referred to exercise, and working out, in one fashion, or another.

Luann and Jack have natural, easy conversations. Bern is either nervous around Jack or falling apart. Not a great setup for a relationship. Doesn’t really seem that Luann is interested in a romantic relationship with anyone right now. Which is okay too.
