Ah! Lupin did have an important message to convey! I hope everyone’s chill stays metaphorical in the Big Pink House and that everyone is warm and safe!
(I am pleased to report that – so far – I have escaped the rolling power outages here in Texas. Many, many people have not been so lucky as we endure 6"+ of snowfall – with more expected on Wednesday – and subfreezing temperatures that my part of the world is not prepared for and should not be experiencing. Lots of internet outages as well, so all school canceled for most of the week.)
A house when the electricity dies feels weird. Like an empty shell. I lost power for a while a few days ago courtesy of an ice storm. Fortunately, it came back on in a few hours. Bless you, electric power guys!
I had an all-black feral around here who thought he was invisible at night. I always knew when he was watching me get my mail because unbeknownst to him his eyes were shooting out fifty-thousand watt laser beams.
Animals can definitely let you know if something is wrong or about to be…… My first February of living up in Tuscaloosa AL we had an extraordinarily warm day, probably 80 after a cold snap. I remember I opened all the windows in my apartment that night as it was balmy out. My cat Cleo started meowing loud, soon after that every dog in the area started barking and very loudly and then it became so, so quiet. About 5 minutes later the winds picked up and it sounded like a freight train was running behind the house (the tracks were a mile the other way), turns out it was a strong thunderstorm line with extremely strong wind and perhaps a tornado. Some trees were knocked down and some houses and apartments 2 blocks from my apartment building had roof damage along with a few carports being collapsed. The animals knew that storm line was coming 10 minutes before I did.
My Mom says that the power is out all over the place in San Antonio and it’s in the negatives now! Lupin’s banshee wail is spot on! :( Robin was right—it can only spell DOOM!
The void in the dark that is Puck. I just love Puck. Love them all but…Puck. On a side note, we got at least 8 inches of snow overnight (Finally!!) and it’s still snowing this morning. I love snow :)
This is no joke, Belle – our little black panther – completely disappears in the dark…especially if she does not have her eye’s open. Marie has a quilt that has a large solid black area on our bed, if Belle is laying on that…she’s gone! Vanished!
She is the Invisible Cat!
I will wake up when its dark out, just our little night-light in the bathroom and I cannot tell if Belle is around. But the funniest thing is, she will then open her eyes and stretch out her front paws and extend her claws. Suddenly two little yellow eyes and little white needles of death appear in the moonlight. I think she does this to intimidate her humans. Her point (excuse the pun) is we will never see it coming!
So many expressions come from this strip that I find memorable. Most of those—at least for me—come from Elvis. Today’s memorable phrase: “Shrieking nighttime yodeler.”
I love the whole invisible thing. I wish Dunn would use that in the strips more often; I ALWAYS find it hilarious. Like that one where Elvis is commenting on how soft the rug is, and the Lupin materializes behind him; Priceless!
I love the popularity of BCN nowadays! When I first joined it was a really small community of fans. While that had its own charm in making me feel special in being one, I love how it is receiving its well-earned popularity. This is the best comic ever!
I like how puck simply says, now that you mention it, i do seem to be invisible, in a perfectly normal manner, although, with cats, that is probably a normal thing.
I’ve had to put aluminum foil over the clock on my stove. It’s so bright it was keeping me awake two rooms away. What is with these insanely bright LEDs? My house is NOT lit like an electronics showroom; I don’t need beacons in the dark.
It must be odd for Lupin to be the one who is visible. :)
huh, it seems that I have seen pucks head enough times that I when I look at him when he’s invisible, I both can and can’t see his head, if that makes sense.
One thing about living in NE WI, we’re accustomed to sub 0 temps, which we’ve had for well over a week. Starting today, it’ll be a balmy 18º. By next Tues., 37º. No storms, no power outages, thank God. I feel for all of you living in the South. I have 2 kids living down South, one in AR and one in LA. AR is getting colder temps than us and a bunch of snow. We are -9" below our snow avg. for this time of year. Crazy winter for sure!

Good to know the Feline Early Warning System is in good working order! (Otherwise, no one would know the power is out!)
McColl34 Premium Member about 4 years ago
It may take a while to stop giggling about “shrieking nighttime yodeler.”
Apparently, Elvis has decided that if he must be awake, he might as well be awake at the news desk.

Indeed Pucky is almost invisible. Is Lupin really that upset that the fridge is not rumbling? Lights out, folks!

Marcia Griffiths: Electric Boogie
No electric!
Lupin can’t see it (no electric!)
No vibes can he feel it (no electric!)
Ooh, no shakin’ (no electric!)
Jiggle-a-mesa-cara
He’s a howlin’ like a matic
He’s a calling all his cat friends
It is surely time to boogie
…….
The Humans don’t know it
(No electric
Boogie woogie, woogie!)
And Puck, we can’t see him
(No electric
Boogie woogie, woogie!)
But you know he’s there,
Here, there and everywhere
…….
We’ve got to move,
Cats going on an outage ride
We’ve got to groove, groove, groove,
And from this outage
We just can’t hide
…….
Humans comin’ with me?
Come let us take you on an outage ride
And now it’s lights out, lights out, lights out
No lights, we just can’t abide!
