The cat I had as a kid liked to hide the dog’s kibble under the couch. One kibble at a time, back and forth from the food bowl to the couch. My parents free-fed the dog, so there was usually kibble in his bowl.

Big Bad John, my childhood dearly departed Siamese protector cat, was a retriever. My dad smoked Camel unfiltered. He would fold the empty packs up when he had smoked them all, and toss them from the kitchen to the living room. Big Bad John would bat them around, then pick them up and carry them back to my dad to be tossed again until he grew tired of the game. We never really paid any attention to where they ended up. When a new refrigerator was delivered and the old one pulled out, we discovered dozens of empty folded up cigarette packs stuffed under it.

I wonder where Lupin’s hat went during those middle two panels. I suppose if anyone could have a whole adventure in those moments, it’d be Lupin!

Just take those old pens from under the couch

Cat of Adventure, Lupin ain’t no slouch

He does everythin’ with heart and soul

He likes that old time bat and roll

He’s glowed like a ball at a disco

He rode on Tortie and spun out on the floor

In ten minutes he was lookin’ for more

He likes that old time bat and roll

    Everybody

    Old time bat and roll

That kinda action just soothes his soul

He’s never pens-ive about the Bics of old

With that old time bat and roll

I love his old time bat and roll

I love Pucky’s posture in panel 3. One “arm” behind his back, studying the mess. Georgia is the master of conveying thought and emotion through body posture.

Our little panther regards pens as worthy prey. But he doesn’t hide them under the couch. He proudly carries them from office to living room, loudly announces a successful hunt, and drops them on the floor. He then modestly accepts copious praise and pats leaving the pen for his elderly servants to trip over. Pens are hard to pick up with a grabber btw.

Lupin looks so cute and happy in the last panel.

So we solved the missing pen problem, and I bet we have a major clue to the missing sock problem, too! Maybe just ask Lupin…

So not under the couch, maybe behind the dryer?

It isn’t usually pens in our home, but bottle caps. Woe to anyone who lays a bottle cap on the table for more than a couple of minutes.

OT medical update: had my two-week followup appointment yesterday and everything looks good, although I will still be using a walker for a while – much to The Girl’s delight, as she enjoys the noise I tend to make while walking across our hardwood floors with it.

I regularly move my sofa out and clean under it, just because I have hardwood and it a good place for cat hair tumble weeds to collect. But, there is always joy when I retrieve the big pink pompom. Joy in batting it around the living room only to lose it under the sofa mins later- again.

When I first read this early this morning with blurry eyes when I saw the 3rd panel I first thought they were the tent pegs the man didn’t need to use for setting up the tent in the living room.

Fake fur mice and colorful ping pong balls here, and not usually under the couch, because we don’t actually own a couch, but under the stove and the fridge and the gun cabinets and the phone and lamp tables.

My recently deceased wife and I had a Munchkin cat who played hockey with the caps off of plastic water bottles. She died a few years ago and I am still finding the caps under objects that haven’t been moved for awhile. After my wife died I was cleaning the basement and moved a shelving unit and found about 20 of them. There are probably more around just haven’t found them yet.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

    Elvis-Anum: Anyone seen my brushes?

Beatrixia: Last I saw them they were on your top shelf.

Elvis-Anum: Has Lupinium had the Zoomies lately?

Beatrixia: No, he’s in Afar doing a show with the It’s a Wonderful Nine Lives Troupe.

Elvis-Anum: Then it must be the Royal Procurers.

Beatrixia: They are on vacation at Tea Springs.

Elvis-Anum: Alright! Then Who Took My Brushes!?

    Enter Puckmosis

Puckmosis: Hey guys, want to come to the palace dining room for s’mores? Elvis-Anum, why the poof?

Beatrixia: He’s missing some of his painting brushes.

Puckmosis: Didn’t you lend them to Maat-Tilda and Sophititi for their tapestry?

Elvis-Anum: If course. I knew that along.

    Beatrixia: Then why the poof?

Elvis-Anum: Poof? Me? That was just my show of concern.

Puckmosis: Well, missing out on s’mores is a real cause for concern. Let’s go!
