This arc is about as exciting as Superman comic books of the early 60’s. “Will Louis notice my new horn rimmed glasses???” (which is why I started buying Marvel….)

Hmmm. So it appears Shannon’s future job is as a massage therapist. She has the natural gift. Well, we all know we don’t always tap into our natural gifts as a career.

Yes it’s a comic, but it stretches belief that a child could do such a good job of massage on Luann.

Shannon went from a hairstylist to massage therapist in less then a week.

So Luann passes out, Shannon gives Luann a bad haircut, Luann freaks, Shannon doesn’t get into trouble, Tiffany fixes Luann’s hair and makes it look cute. See? I wrote the whole week’s storyline! Well, maybe. I could be wrong.

I just noticed a new restriction here. I went to post a comment, and it failed. I can sometimes post more than one comment in a minute because I generally do not post two page novellas. Never saw this before:

For a moment I thought that Luann was not going to remove the scissors, I am glad I was wrong, about the video, there are many who tell you how to give a relaxing head and shoulders massage, very popular I think!

I hate to even speculate on what else Shannon might have seen on the internet.

It looks like I’ve won at least 200 Luann’s, which means I’m up 200. But the week is young. I bet that nothing would happen with the hair, one because I was sure Luann would not let that mane be touched by a pretend playing child, but not sure beyond that. Misdirection is always the play in Luannverse so I won’t predict what happens next, but so far it’s pretty hilarious, Shannon the masseuse.

When you’re babysitting a 6 year old, you are the adult and the voice of reason, even if you’re only 13 years old. If I were Shannon’s 13 year old babysitter,

1. She would never EVER have had access to TJs hair products.

2. If, perchance, she had put TJ’s gel (or other products) in her hair, I would have put her in the bathtub and shampooed it out, now matter how much she protested.

3. She would never EVER have had access to scissors.

4. We would never EVER have “played beauty salon”.

5. I would never EVER have sat willingly in a chair with a towel draped around me, playing “customer” to her “stylist”.

6. She would never EVER have touched my hair, head or shoulders, not even a little bit.

But Luann is not 13. She’s supposed to be 19 or 20 years old. Why is Luann regressing to a mental age less than Shannon’s? Why is Shannon in total control? This is ridiculous.

What’s that FRIENDS joke about receiving massages? Oh yeah…

The most ridiculous part of this is Luann’s bizarre reaction to—nothing. She looks as if she’s missing some brain cells. The lights are on, but nobody’s home.

Dear Greg and Co. – I really liked reading Luann – for many years now, every day! But lately I feel after reading – why did I do that? Today is one of them. I have been checking out for days at a time hoping it will get better. What is going on?

I’m so glad Luann took the scissors away from Shannon. Today we saw how much Luann really needed to relax. Past events where she had to deal with Bernice lying to her were really stressful and sad. A little pampering on her hair and she’s in another world ♡. It seems more and more that Shannon is finding a new ability in her to play with others in a positive and non-destructive way, finally ♡.

Reminds of the way a puppy starts thumping it’s leg whenever you scratch certain areas.

When you go in to a spa or a nice salon you often get a scalp, neck and shoulder massage included in with your facial or hair service. It is VERY relaxing but hardly orgasmic. Luann is obviously feeling very relaxed. Likewise if you get a mani pedi they massage your hands and feet. Sorry to disappoint you but this is totally G rated. So glad Shannon put down the scissors!

Pin curls, rollers, braids, bun, pony tail, French twist. These are all “hair dos” that Shannon could have tried on Luann. Or Luann could have given Shannon a new hair style. Instead the writer has a 5-6 year old child doing a head and body massage “as seen on the internet”, followed with an orgasmic facial response from her “client”, prompting all kinds of sexual interpretations from a large portion of their readers (mainly due to the internet reference I am sure). I didn’t find this amusing at all and I’m wondering why they would write this type of story. It’s not like they are so naïve that they wouldn’t know exactly what kind of underlying “massage” they were sending and what kind of reaction it would prompt. It feels inappropriate for a babysitter/child storyline so I’m disappointed today. The only good thing about it is they have surpassed their Stupid score and may have even set a new record. Maybe tomorrow will be an all time personal best?

Some questionable artistic choices being made by Greg in that third panel. All that aside, has Luann STILL not learned to never ever turn her back on Shannon? Things can get real bad real quick when you don’t keep your eyes on the kid.

A day or so ago, I had commented that what is going on with this ‘toon is similar to what happened when new writers took over ’Alley Oop’ and totally changed the main character. My conclusion is that the writing is now being done by an artist (Karen Evans?) who does not like the main character. I had really liked Luann. I see this new character, LU2, the way I see the character I think of as ‘B’: a character I don’t recognize, and whose actions generate discomfort. I will probably check on this ‘toon during future weeks, just to see whether conditions are the same. But I no longer read ’Alley Oop’ when those changes to the character became permanent. I guess it will be the same for ‘LU2’…

This is just about having a reason for Luann to fall asleep so Shannon can demo her hair.

Just for fun I researched what was happening in my own life when I was Luann’s age. That year, one of my best friends got married, and one of my old boyfriends got married. Several other acquaintances got married. I was majoring in pre-med and had already been interviewed for admission by three medical schools. I was accepted by all three depending on whether I kept my high GPA until the time I graduated from college. One of my friends was invited to sing on the Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour on national television. Many of my friends were traveling on their own that summer. I spent all summer, hundreds of miles away from home, working in Glacier National Park, meeting people who lived in different parts of the country than I did, and meeting some of the best friends I’ve ever had. Several friends of mine spent the summer in Europe, traveling, taking care of themselves and learning about life. I was invited to be a bridesmaid in a wedding for the first time. Being 20 is the time for exploration, spreading your wings, learning about life, meeting new people with different experiences from you.

A lot of folks reading some really weird things into Luann’s reaction in the last panel. Tyge speculates that Shannon will use her masseuse skills to relieve Luann of the scissors. I don’t know and I don’t care.

What gets me is, after several Sundays of Luann complaining about a lack of social life, especially leading off with that remark about Jonah, this has not been an arc with Luann and Shannon talking about what it means to have a social life.

For G&K: Shannon is an excuse for physical slapstick comedy.

For (some of) us: Shannon is an excuse to become W.C. Fields when it comes to kids.

For me: A missed opportunity for G&K to expound on Luann’s state – and whether she’s really unhappy about it – or it’s just a Sunday gag.

How much you want to bet Gunther makes the same face when his Mom tucks him in at night?

Don’t get too relaxed, Luann. Shannon can’t read yet. Who knows what she will use for conditioner.

Although, Luann could use a new hairstyle!

Looks like Shannon might have found a career path early on.

Considering Luann’s and Shannon’s relationship being extended family members, she should not be expected to act like a professional babysitter to Shannon. I think she is doing a good job considering Shannon is like a niece to Luann, though by family extension, not by blood.

Luann needs to have a date

Speaking from my decades of baby-sitting experience, in this same situation I would also be making these, and increasingly exaggerated, happy/purring noises…with the SOLE purpose of making my “masseuse” crack up!

Talented masseuse. I would imagine her hairstyling skills do not measure up. Luann will be relaxed until she sees the result. But it will grow back.

This is truly sad. The supposed “adult in the room,” Luann, is so easily seduced (so to speak) by the six-year-old Brat. This cannot end well….

The last panel should have had Luann asleep and snoring. It would have felt a little less icky. What should have been a 2-day gag is now stretching into 2 weeks. Haven’t the Evanses heard that “less is more”?

It’s a comic strip folks ,not Shakespeare ,or gods little acre . yah going to do just that get going .

This is a Rorschach test, people are seeing what they want. Luann is simply enjoying a massage that feels surprisingly good from a 7 year old. None of you can say you don’t have a goofy face when you get a massage that just hits all the right spots and makes you feel “OMG!!!”

Luann isn’t aheago; she’s just drawn that way.
