Look at Frank and Nancy wrapping gifts together. And then Nancy is reading Frank a book. It’s so good to see a mother and her son getting along so well.
Well, you’re not supposed to admit that! This is when you’re supposed to lie! What on earth does she mean to accomplish by telling the truth? Actually she could be joking because it looks like she bought a tie, but if she is joking they should probably have been less subtle about it.
Ah, that time of year is here again. Time for me to make my annual trip to the Arco AM/PM minimart to do all my Christmas shopping. Everyone is getting a keychain, sunglasses, an energy shot, a lottery ticket, a lighter, and a Slim Jim® beef stick. Nothing but the best!
Oh Luann … that’s a problem. As Prudence once told her, Luann has a problem buying clothes. She often ends up buying things that she will never wear just because she hopes for some special occasion, which never comes. I really hope that next year will give her some of these special occasions. Also, I hope she has found even something for her family and friends. Expecially for her annoying BFF/sister.
They have to do a “let’s hate Luann” comic now and then, that way it’s easier to justify using other characters for the majority of the time. I’d say they did a good job of it today.
I think this comic strip is still called Luann because she appears on Sundays. Who cares if she picks some things for herself. Remember, Nancy agreed with Bernice that Luann was a rotten person, good Mother? NO!! I am getting tired reading about Tiffany, Gunther, Bernice, Brad, etc.WHEN IS LUANN GOING TO GET A STORY AGAIN?!! I want to read that Luann gets a love interest, does well in school, she grows up with adult problems not this high school/college drama.
My family’s rule was no buying anything for yourself between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Frank and Nancy need to take all of those packages and wrap them up.
Sunday foible. For those who think this is a riff on Luann being selfish, NOT! It’s on the tendency of all of us to have a bit of selfishness, and some hypocrisy to so quickly accuse a digital cartoon character of that hidden trait we humans need to work on. Catharsis misplaced unfortunately.
Once I was old enough to actually make my own purchases, my mom always forbad me from shopping for myself from Halloween through Valentine’s Day, because she didn’t want me to run the risk of buying something for myself that she may have already gotten for me as a Christmas present in advance.

Maybe she can give them an empty cardboard box like she did for Bernice that one year.
Or she can take her dad’s gift from a previous year off the shelf, re-wrap it and give it to him again, like she did a couple years ago.

Never mind that whole “Luann is struggling financially now” arc. Shopping sprees are fun, and internal consistency is sooo lame!

This is why Luann rarely shows up in her own strip anymore. The character is terrible.

At some point in time, when Luann was small, her parents should’ve cut her list down to one item to teach her some selflessness.

ChrisTrey about 3 years ago
Why do adults buy presents for each other? That should only be for kids under 15 or so. Or maybe a beloved grandparent or and elderly parent.
Christmas is NOT about giving or getting presents, it’s about the birth of Christ! I’m not a Christian and even I understand that.
