That happened to me once when I didnāt even buy it. I won something in a drawing at a trade organization. My wife had already bought the same thing for me.
Iāve given up trying to get Spouse tools that she wants, for exactly this reason. Clothing is out too. Got her an electronic gadget this year, one that she has, but itās outdated. Iāll get her cast-off to replace mine that the company wonāt even update at all. Win win.
I bought my father a battery tester for Christmas this year, but then he went out and bought himself an even better one last week. Now my brother-in-law is getting a battery tester and my father is getting a lump of coal
The level of uncertainty and frustration finding a ārightā gift for most people, I can understand why socks (and gift certificates) are a go-to option.
seems like it would be kind to not buy yourself any expensive items within a couple of weeks of Christmas, especially if itās anything youāve been saying you need/want! Besides the sales are probably better after Christmas in the case you donāt get something you wanted
Nothing wrong with having two! I have two and it is really nice to have a drill bit and a screw driver bit available without having to change it back and forth.
Who would know best which electric drill to buy? When my wife or I need something we buy it so there is nothing we need come Christmas time. We have no need for presents.
My husband does this every year, despite agreeing NOT to buy himself anything from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Every year. He buys them and then hides them so I wonāt know about it. Thank God for kids who tell me not to buy items as I put them in my cart. āDaddy said not to tell you, butā¦.. he already got that and hid it in his closet so you wonāt see it.āWhy, spouse-man? Why?!?!
This happened the other day. I had to stop my wife from buying something Iād already planned on getting her for Christmas. I think she thought I was just being frugal when she held the item up and I just shook my head. Crises averted, I hope.
Thatās my problem. Iām at the age where if I need/want something, I buy it. Then when Christmas rolls around, I canāt think of anything I want when asked.
I had always told my ex-wife, and now I tell my girlfriend, donāt EVER buy me tools or clothing without asking first. I am too picky and I know exactly what I want in those two areas.
Re-gift it to the lad. Unless it is underwear, his gift from Grandma may work for you. (Or be an embarrassing story that can be retold for years to come.)
Old habits are hard to breakā¦.LOL! Probably doesnāt even remember what he did last yearā¦OR THE YEARS BEFOREā¦.MERRY CHRISTMAS. BRIAN AND THANK YOU FOR THE GENIUS COMIC STRIP IVE READ FOR YEARS!
Iāve tried to get my spouse to wait on purchasing items but he usually buys it as soon as he thinks of it. After seeing all sorts of car clean/repair/fixit items come in the mail the last month, I just told him that I didnāt get him a gift. That lets him off the hook for me as well.
My daughter loaned me her light-up vest to cycle home after dark. When I returned it, she asked what I thought.
I said, āI think Iāll get one of these. It seems to work really well.ā I got a look that said āorder it, and youāre a dead man. Itās your Christmas gift.ā Just a look. That was enough. Looking forward to getting it tomorrow morning.
I learned, from my first marriage, to let my wife buy her own gifts. That way, she gets what she wants, itās always the right size, color and she never has to return it. And itās one of the first things that I told my my wife now.

Always need a backup. What if you lose electricity, or the extension cord canāt reach. An battery drill comes in handy.

The rule is not to buy yourself any thing you want the month before Christmas- ā -after Christmas no holds barred.

Always have two drills. One with the drill bit to drill the pilot hole, the other set up with the bit to drive the screw.
Much faster than having to change every time.
