If it’s the Gettysburg Address, the nation was already split in two.

If it’s his “…with malice towards none, with charity towards all..” speech after the war was over, then I agree.

Garry Wills’ “Lincoln at Gettysburg” is a great place to start.

Seems greg anticipated everybody’s comment about the length of the essay vs the speech.

Axel could contrast the Address with the other big speech of the day, delivered by Edward Everett, who was an orator and the main speaker. His speech was two hours long and more along the lines of what people were expecting, a huge epic with lots of classical references. He spoke right before Lincoln and later told the President, ""I should be glad, if I could flatter myself that I came as near to the central idea of the occasion, in two hours, as you did in two minutes."

Hoo boy…. Luann should NOT be touching him…

Awww… Axel now feel so relaxed with Luann that he admit his fear and his sensation of don’t be able to do that essay. Luann could really become an amazing teacher (or consuelor)♡! Probably this will lead Axel to have a serious crush on her… Annoying but understandable.

the best part about the speech was that lincoln was not the main speaker, he was asked to say a few words “for the widows and orphans”. The main speaker later sent a letter bto lincoln saying he wished he had come as close to the importance of the day in 3 hours that Lincoln did in 3 minutes.

I wonder if he’s playing her, and she’ll do more of the work than she anticipated

III know touching students might a zero tolerance thing in the morass if school districts policy, but I doubt it’s meant to be an issue here, but the early setup does make one wonder. She is showing her teacher vibe though.

this is coming from the same person who has a very difficult time writing an essay for her self. how is she going to help someone else write one? this seems more like a Bernice issue.

There are classes on child safety that everyone, paid or volunteer, who deals with youth have to take in my area. Luann ( ie Greg and Karen) appear to be unaware.

I believe I see a “13-year-old-raging-hormone” arc in the offing. Ht did say he was into older women.

So far Luann has displayed a lot of patience. And Axel may be smarter than he seems.

There isn’t a 19 year old on the planet in this day and age that says “you rascal.”

AS USUAL, Luann shows absolutely no understanding of responsibility, boundaries and limits. Whether it’s letting a homeless person camp in her parents’ business or allowing a stranger with a weapon enter school grounds and interact with students to touching a student affectionately (and yes that is an affectionate, friendly arm rub) she is just simply not competent enough to be teaching. Maybe we can see Axel brag it up about how much she “likes” him and then his big brother show up to see what kind of pervert the school has hired to tutor.

Axel you need to interpret what the words mean. And how you can you build a essay around them.

Writing is a LOT easier with word processing.

Write whatever strikes your fancy. Rearrange as desired when finished. Look for what you might want to add after one of the sentences. Collect any more common to each other than others. Throw away any you might decide to omit.

Repeat a time or two.

Read it to yourself. See if you might want to rewrite for a more natural feel.

Look for grammar and speleng meztaques. (Yes, like that.)

Submit. Await the praise, admiration, roses thrown at your feet.

The tutoring is taking place in Phelps/ Fogarty office. Hopefully she is still there and Luann will not get in trouble for touching a 13 year old boy. Fogarty can attest that nothing inappropriate happened.

A lot of people are really reading too much into this touching thing. She is not rubbing his shoulder, she is casually touching his shoulder. To me, the look on his face is more like he is surprised she will help him through the essay. I don’t see everything sexual as a lot of other commenters on here. I really don’t think Greg will go there. This to me is about whether Luann will be a good teacher or not, not a sexual thing.

Well,Luann has patience.The mark of any good teacher.

When writing a term paper I’d start with my bibliography, then list all of the quotes I intend to use, then insert mindless gibberish around the quotes. I always passed.
