I have had my roof repaired twice. It’s like living inside a heavy metal band’s biggest drum! I would jump up regularly and wonder if something had fallen on the roof from an airplane. I was very nice to the roofers because, tough job and I was grateful but heck!!!
I admire roofers. You can’t get me on a two foot step ladder let alone a roof! I have height issues but it stems from falling out of an attic when I was a kid. I really should have died. So no heights for me.
I have to say, I very much would not like this. I don’t want people just sitting outside my window, possibly looking in at what I’m doing. However, Puck and Lupin both make good points in the last panel.
Safety harnesses aren’t fun. In my last job before retirement, I attended a one day fall-arrest seminar that included hanging from a big tripod in a harness for a few minutes. It’s surprisingly uncomfortable, even painful after a while.
The harnesses save lives, but there’s a reason why rescue needs to happen in 15 minutes or less – circulation to the legs gets cut off. People have had amputations after hanging in the harness too long.
I really, extremely, totally, unreservedly, beyond a shadow of a doubt, and without hesitation…dislike heights. I forced myself up on roofs because I had to, but I hated every minute of it.
People who routinely have to deal with heights have my respect.
This storyline with the roofers is based on the time the real life roof on the real life Big Pink House was repaired. The Man and I woke up one morning to sudden hammering and men swinging in the windows, lol! The roofers were kind, friendly, and polite, and as you’ll see REALLY adored one of the cats… It was about as stressful as any home repairs go, but full of sweet funny moments too. The Boy had just turned two and the Girl was still a baby. I had just begun the development deal to get the comic ready for newspapers, and I put this experience aside to add into the lore of the Big Pink House one day. Now, years later, the Boy is nine, the Girl is seven, and these strips will celebrate a certain good bad boy we all miss this June. The roofers LOVED him, and he was just delighted by them. You’ll know who for sure tomorrow, though I trust you’ve already guessed. :)

If properly adjusted, they are fun. If improperly adjusted, they are . . . not.

Burying the lede, Lupin – what’s in those sandwiches, and will the power of Big Eyes encourage them to share?

I’m glad to see they are wearing safety harnesses. That roof is very steep!

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Thomios: Looks like we have everything planned for Uncle Floof’s visit. Now to the matter at paw. Lunch.
Sue Chef: We have plenty of bread and ham slices. Why not serve make-your-own ham sandwiches and fries?
Thomios: Great idea. Do we have enough condiments?
Mouse giggles
Thomios: Oh, hi, Agnes-Ata. I’m guessing we have plenty of condiments for lunch.
Agnes-Ata: I think you might. You also have plenty of potatoes.
Sue Chef: I’ll have Ged the apprentice start slicing potatoes for fries.
Sometime Later
Sue Chef: Great knife skills, Ged, but you sliced those potatoes awfully thin.
Ged: Do you want to make more?
Sue: No, not enough time. We’ll serve these and hope for the best.
Lunchtime
Puckmosis: Ooh, these fries are so nice and crunchy. Are they a new recipe?
Thomios: Sort of. Ged kind of developed a new technique.
Elvis-Anum: Lupinium, stop playing with the salt shaker! You got salt all over my potatoes!
Lupinium: Oops, sorry about that.
Elvis: You know, these salty chips aren’t half bad!
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: I declare the chips and sandwich lunch to be a success!

I live on the 12th floor, and we had maintenance on the building facade.
If you want to see a cat freak out, live on the 12th floor and put a human being on the other side of the window.
It freaked ME out a bit.

Fly him to the roof
Where his smart phone has no bars
Let him put a harness on and
Chew it, just because
In other words, that’s his brand
In other words, baby, destiny
Fill his heart with song and let him swing forevermore
Trouble’s all he longs for
All he worships and adores
In other words, it’s not new
In other words, Lupin, I love you ❤️

Hey, Mr. roof repair men eat sandwiches before me
Out I’m staring cause there is no place I’m going to
Hey, Mr. roof repair men, I want something to chew for me
With your dingle dangle harnesses I’ll surely have fun, too
