Luann got nothin’.

hy did she record all of this? Because it’s good to vent. But as with all venting it does no good to listen to it later.

So this story arc is going to end with Luann doing nothing. Typical.

To make money now! If you are brave enough to publicly embarrass yourself.

So you can come back many years later and CRINGE!

Because you have no life.

Because she thought those things were important to record at the time, but they’re not anymore.

Why don’t you also write about the time you were trapped in a deep ravine with a twisted ankle, but Gunther carried you out on his back?

Or the time that you wowed audiences during a performance of Westside Story?

Or the time you dated that creepy Elwood so your “friend” Delta could go to DC to meet the President?

Or the time you met Clay Aiken?

Luann is a snippet writer, not a story writer. I believe that there is still a Reader’s Digest magazine and it had little snippets of humor sent in by the readers. They are like cartoons without the drawings. Ideal start for Luann.

Maybe her journey into the past will yield self-discovery!!!

Probably because it would make the current arc more interesting.

All those "zzzz"s. I don’t remember young Luann suffering from narcolepsy.

Still disappointed that there is no connection between this arc, and the one in which Luann was writing a diary for a student she was ‘counseling’, who was assigned to create a diary for a famous artist. Luann did a decent job with THAT writing…

Sweet Lu stop digging in your past.

Poor Luann, too many years have passed and she’s no longer able to understand her feelings as a young teen and how comforting it must have used to be for her to record her diary daily to let off steam. I love how she fast-forward the recording and how dramatic the last panel is. Luann alone facing her early adolescence full of embarrassing problems and feeling really down. I hope she will be able to get out of this moment of depression and come out with the decision to change her life.

Why, indeed. All boring details of your ordinary teenage years. No wonder Bernice snarks at you.

This arc has mentioned Aaron Hill and Mr. Fogarty, but not Delta.

Well, Luann, the same reason you’re spending hours listening to this stuff.

Can we move on to a new arc? I’m glad we actually have Luann as the center of the arc, but, really? All we’re seeing is how boring her life was, and we already know that.

I never got into journalling, becauze I was sure this would be my future self’s reaction.

At 19 you ask the question. At 50, you know the answer.

I’ve been transcribing my old journals. I understand why I wrote stuff down, to unload in a safe place, but most of it is BORING.

Could it be that Luann is actually looking back on her life and realizing how miserable she truly is? She was hardly ever in a good mood back in the 80s and 90s, always complaining about the many burdens of her life and now she can’t seem to climb up the ladder of success.

Because you thought it was important, back then.

Why? I wrote diaries thinking that some day I would have children, and that I could understand them better if I looked back on my own feelings when I was their age. It worked.

Ahhhh, Self Discovery. to bad it will not last.

Mailboxes don’t work that way. If you open the door, there’s a panel that blocks access to the inside.

She’s still exactly like this.

Therapy? And BTW, I don’t think it worked.

You had a different idea of what constituted ‘important’ at the time, Luann. It’s like the saying, “If you can’t look back on your younger self and see that you were an idiot, it’s only because you’re STILL an idiot.”

I still have the diary, or more accurately log journal, of a 2.5 month road trip my grandparents took me on in 1972. Went up through the Rockies to Yellowstone, over the AlCan Highway through western Canada and over nearly every highway in Alaska then down the coast to LA and Disneyland and, finally, home. It’s odd what struck a 12 year old boy as being noteworthy.

Why does Luann remain best friends with bernice, you ask? Luann sees something in her that you don’t.

The inanity of childhood, and the hidden wisdom. Hard to see when one looks back, but germs of wisdom, later emerging, can be seen. Which ones here? darn if I know (lol).

why? because you needed to unload. adolescent kids like to talk minutiae and sometimes the only person available to listen is a metal and plastic box (with a rotating tape). Actually it’s great that Luann has these tapes; they could help her understand how she became her present self; writing a humor story based on them ……..if she ever gets around to it……could be very cathartic, a way to purge.

Puddles looks like he wants to run away again.

The mold is what makes blue cheese so tasty.

I also made funny tapes when I got a tape recorder. I was mostly trying to imitate voices I heard on TV.

You expected the cheese to not get moldy when you leave it sitting on your bed for weeks? And what about that half of a hamburger under your pillow?

This is getting a little boring.

Could this be the day that Luann (and G & K) realizes that she’s not a kid anymore…

When did she say it was her dream to be a writer? I recall her saying there was a contest and maybe she could win some money. She flits from interest to interest, there was no big “Luann’s dream is being a writer” storyline.

Because sometimes the best way to deal with an issue is to talk about it, even if it’s to yourself.

Odd; that’s very much like the question I’m asking myself….
