I loved it when my dad would bring home a box of Famous Recipe chicken along with mashed potatoes, gravy, cole slaw, biscuits, and those honey packets.
I’d hope for that too, Puck. The dining room here has excellent food, but they take fish & chips literally. A nice piece of fish – and house-made crisps oy…
My first cat, Pixel, loved LJS’s chicken planks, and especially the crunchies that were on the plate with them. He was my carbo kitty.
When I drove with my first three cats across country to take a new job, they didn’t want to eat in the carrier whilst I drove. Until I hit LJS. That’s when Pixel wanted crunchies.
Pucky would have loved Fridays with our family when I was a tot. The local tavern across the street from the RC church had fish fries every Friday (this was well before the rules changed to allow meat on Friday). We kids would take turns going with Dad to pick up fish sandwiches to bring home. Fried white fish on white bread with a smear of catsup was a real treat at the time. Every once in a while the whole family would go and eat at the tavern which was also a treat as it was the only day kids were allowed inside for a glimpse of the grown up world.
It is official, Marie and I are now Crazy Cat People. When a person stopped by the house on Saturday and multiple cats ran past them, they commented, “Wow. You certainly have a lot of cats.” We knew our goal had been met.
I want to thank everyone and everycat who have made this honor possible. Little did we realize 30+ years ago, as a young couple starting with a single cat, Snicker Doodle, that we would achieve this honor. It was hard work, a lot of litter-pan scooping, and lots of fur vacuumed up, but it was worth it.
I will be thinking of all of you when we travel to Oslo, in the presence of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Norway, to receive our award this summer.
Were it Elvis, I would suspect he’s waiting by the door for a chance to trip the Man and get at the food, but sweet Pucky would never do such a thing. Would he?
Love this one!! My husband and I always remember moving into our first house (over 40 years ago) and with almost no furniture sitting on the floor and sharing our fish & chips dinner with our two fur babies Missy & Kitten!!
Every year the Nobel Prize Committee secretly awards a prize in Physics to the cat who has produced the best research results into the age-old problem of whether gravity continues to exist in the vicinity of a dresser, shelf, kitchen counter, table, desk, etc.
Today marks the start of a series of classic Breaking Cat News strips! These reruns were chosen to give my hand some time for recovery after surgery. Originally, it was only going to be two weeks of classic BCN strips. However, I had some swelling around the stitches, ending up taking the full four weeks of hand rest, drawing and all. Looking back, I think it was very ambitious of me to think I could heal up well enough to have a good grip and draw in just two weeks. I’m glad I was optimistic, but I’m grateful that I was able to take the rest when that was not the case.
I miss drawing incredibly. I keep telling friends it feels a lot like that episode of the Twilight Zone with Burgess Meredith, where he finally has all the time to read but his glasses break. All I would want to do usually with time off is draw and paint. I cannot wait to get back to it. My hand is feeling better every day. The grip is finally getting a bit more precise and stronger. There’s still some achiness and tightness through the tendons, I have been told that that is normal, and will get better in time. I want to thank everyone at GoComics and Andrews McMeel Syndication/Publishing for being incredibly helpful and supportive during this entire experience. And of course I want to thank all of you for your kind words here, in the comments on GoComics, Twitter, and elsewhere. I read all the comments, and as I am typing right now with speech to text Replying back to many would be a bit tough right now, but please know that they have been a great comfort during all of this and I appreciate you so much.
I’ve been reading the comic since before Pucky was really black – don’t remember a date. I read it on the run as I was working full time and also being a caretaker so, while I got to know and fall in love with the characters, I didn’t get too involved in following comments. I retired this year and it’s been so fun to hang out here and get to “know” many of you. And I’ve learned so much more about each strip from reading your takes on it. So I’m sure I will remember a lot of the actual strips – like this one – but much will be news again now that I have time to “peruse”. Wonderful place to be!!
I was asked to post a reminder on Monday. A local cat who was the victim of extreme abuse is in need of help with medical expenses. The most recent update I can find is from Saturday. "Fotis woke up this morning having taken one of his foot bandages off…The good news is that his respiration is normal, his temperature, as well, and that his appetite is returning. The need to stay ahead of the wounds through observation, treatment and dressing, when needed Is vital. OFS could not have done this without your support and they thank you for that and your continued support is needed and appreciated. " If you can’t contribute, and least send prayers and/or positive thoughts for Fotis to make a full recovery and find a loving forever home.
This link leads to a page showing how to donate to help with Fotis’s medical expenses which have already exceeded $3000. There are no photos or graphic descriptions on this page.
No you don’t Puck. Bandit and DC aren’t that interested in fish unless it’s tuna juice (AKA the water from a can of tuna). And I wish I could remember who it was that was willing to stick ther head in a person’s mouth in order to get KFC chicken. That was always bad. A pain trying to eat without them climbing up and swiping it off the plate, but having to keep them from sticking their head in your mouth to get at the chicken was way too much. And they didn’t have to smell the chicken, they recognized the bucket and would go nuts when they saw it out the window.

Yay! The repeats have started! On any other strip, I’d probably be annoyed, or at least disappointed.

At the Royal Dining Room
Thomios: Today’s dinner I call Anything Surprise.
Elvis-Anum: What does that mean?
Thomios: This is my apprentices’ final exam. I gave them free rein without supervision.
Elvis: And you were alright with that?
Thomios: Of course. All master chefs had to do this.
Lupinium: Hey, I’m up for any adventure.
Ora Z: We can eat anything we want?
Puckmosis: Well, anything the chefs serve.
Iggy: I don’t want to spoil the surprise, but I was out with Fresh and Salty Water Cat fishing today.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: I know that the apprentices were in capable paws. Now let’s eat.

At last
The Man has come along
Puck’s hungry wait is over
His heart is filled with song
Oh yeah, yeah
At last
The Man’s his fav’rite dude
One hundred thousand times over
The night he brought home food
Puck had a dream, could hardly wait for
Some fish that he could call his own
A meal he hopes the Man won’t be late for
The most hunger he’s ever known
Oh yeah, yeah
He smiled, he smiled
Oh, ’cause then the spell was cast
And now he is in heaven
With food divine…
At last
