When I took a picture of a mountain, an old man with a tripod said âThe trick is to wait for the sun to come out for better lighting.â The sun did not come out and the weather got worse.
Digital cameras are wonderful, but they have taken all the fun out of photography for me. First off, they cost $.00 per shot, so one doesnât have to be the least bit selective. Second, they eliminate the excitement in waiting to see what develops. (Yes, I know there is still film available, but no more Kodachrome.) Third, any doofus can use one and get really good shots.
A number of years ago, we went to an Ansel Adams exhibit in the Eastman House in Rochester. As I recall, in a video we saw of him there, he said he thought of his negatives as a composer might well think of his work⊠it was to be interpreted by others, especially with new technology.
He is holding the phone in âstick photoâ position where you canât get the full perspective of the scene, just a little slice. Somehow phones weigh more held horizontally, I guess.
Digital cameras make âwait foir right lightâ a cliche. You cam always take multiple pics with different lighting conditions. Sometimes the other shots will amaze you.
Really enjoying the trend of comments today. I have both collected and taken photos of about everything I enjoyed for the 75 years since my first camera. Always looking for the âperfectâ shot. And sometimes I get it.
Good to know there are kindred souls still out there âhunting.â Keep snapping, Friends, thereâs beauty and fascination everywhere.
Obviously not oaks⊠they drop leaves the year around. My neighborâs maples would do this tho. They would all turn a glorious yellow⊠be that way for about a week and then all fall within 24hrs.
We have the most spectacular âstreet treeâ at our house. The city planted a small Gingko tree in the grass strip between the sidewalk and street. Itâs now a massive tree! When the leaves turn gold and the sun shines on it, itâs the only thing you notice as you turn onto our street. However â it practically drops all its leaves at once. The street is paved in gold, as is the sidewalk :-)
Since you arenât buying film that needs to be developed, thereâs no need to be so stingy. Take a bunch. Later, you may find in one of the images that thereâs a Wiley bear staring at you and deciding youâre too old and bony to bother with.
The weather is so weird here (too warm) the trees havenât noticed yet this is autumn. The forest is green. But I have hope. Today I saw a tree sporting red leaves.
Here (northern Virginia) the colors seem to change overnight.
Yesterday, the red oak outside my office window had one small branch of changing leaves. Today, the whole tree is tinged red-brown. (and since itâs youngâmaybe 15yrsâ those leaves will linger until spring when new growth will push them off.)
The dogwood is sultry red. The redbud is saffron yellow, and the other oaks wear variations of brown and orange.
Last weekend, everything here was still solidly green (except the Yoshino cherry. Its leaves had already yellowed and blown away.)
If I could only have one tree in Autumn, it would be a sweet gumâfor the range of color on just one tree.

Of course in Australia we donât tend to have leaves fall (unless from imported Northern Hemisphere trees). They tend to loose branches instead.

He should have told them to ânot moveâ before taking the picture. Now, heâll have to do a downshot instead of an upshot.

The colors stand out better when itâs a dreary, drizzly day.

Iâve seen days where it seemed like the leaves were falling almost that fast. Or it happened overnight.

The important thing is that you saw it. Recording it is nice, but the real thing in real time is what travel is all about.

I have a feeling that Iâve seen a strip very similar to this one before. Anyone else remember one like this?

The Texas way. Leaves on trees one day then gone the next day.

Mighty good timing â it was windy here in Central PA, and all the leaves did indeed blow off the trees in one day. Or such it seemed!
