Bernice reminds me of the saying “when you’re a hammer, everything you see is a nail”

The year begins with a fight between Luann and Bernice… PERFECT! If we’re lucky, Luann will take the words she says leaving as a resolution and, over the course of this year, she’ll be able to realizing that her life can be so much better without her “BFF” around to constantly bring her down. This is the only possible interpretation of this arc I see. The bond between the two is dying and this happens due to Bernice’s inability to be more understanding and kind. If she doesn’t change, she will lose Luann.

Education is a fine thing and I support each school,

It’s a shame some seem too timid to teach the Golden Rule:

Bernice needs to look in the mirror. She’s trying to use her limited psychology learning to help LuAnn when she herself has psychological/social issues. She has to help -fix her self before she can help – fix others.

I’m with Bernice on this point. Luann is just saying the right things for people to hear, and Bernice is calling her out on it, which confuses Luann…

Excellent way to get out of being roped in to Luann’s idiotic plan! Good job Bernice! Maybe she’ll get mad enough to take on some responsibility for her own actions and goals.

Somebody has to call Luann out on her bull sh*t. Her parents certainly don’t. They just let her go about her life shifting in the wind with no structure or expectations, not even any household rules. They keep Bernice there as a babysitter. Someone for Luann to talk to who will tell them if anything is getting really out of hand.

The problem with learning psychology is that you want to analyze EVERYONE instead of letting things be.

Luann could improve her life by giving Bernice a one-way ticket on a space ship to another galaxy. I wouldn’t call Bernice, the Devil’s Advocate; more likely, she his replacement!

Why is Bernice such a stick-in-the-mud as a young adult? She was much less so as a teen.

I really wonder how these two stay friends…Bern, lighten up. You’re far from perfect yourself.

Am I the only one who thinks Luann is just as insufferable as Bernice in this exchange? She demands that everyone to help her with her resolutions but doesn’t actually have a plan on how she’s going to keep them, and then throws a tantrum when called out on it? Good lord.

Bernice IS trying to help, but the thing is, I don’t remember Luann asking her to.

I do sometimes wonder how/why those two have remained friends all these years.

Bernice? You might want investigate this “kindness phenomenon” and practice it on something other than your fish.

Okay, the thing that people are missing here is that Luann didn’t ask for Bernice’s ‘help’ in the first place! Bernice kept giving Luann unsolicited advice, and Luann finally got sick of her criticism and left. We’ve been subjected to week after week of Bernice’s smug ‘help’. Why doesn’t she look in the mirror if she wants to help someone. Physician, heal thyself.

Luann did the right thing. Bernice is incredibly tiresome. Hope this year she finally starts to figure it out.

Stop the hate! Bernice was asked by Luann to help her keep her resolutions. Luann has made ambiguous resolutions, “Be kinder” or ones with no plan, “Clean up my room”. Luann needs to rethink the resolutions and define how she intends to change for the better in 2024, but I doubt she is willing to do the work. Bernice is trying to lead her in the right direction, to get her focused on making reality-based resolutions.

OK, everyone here is down on Bernice as being judgmental (when she clearly has work to do on herself). HOWEVER, I think Bern’s point (all along) is not what the resolutions are but the idea of them and the fact that people make them only to not keep them or they make ones that are overly vague with no plan as to how to implement. Bern takes the overly technical/analytical approach to everything and G&K are exaggerating this for effect, as they do everything.

I’d ask if Luann is going through a certain experience that I can remember my older sister going through that would make her behave in such a manner, but I know that will only result in having “sexist” and “misogynistic” labels hurled at me, so I won’t ask.

Luann has been kind for years by never telling Bernice to get lost. So there’s that, at least. Frank and Nancy could stand to be more kind to Luann by not making snide remarks about her.

Is Bernice the worst character in comics? I really think that yes, she is. I would so love for her to be killed off.

I hope this is the end of this arc.

Could this be the end of a “beautiful” relationship? One could hope so.

Did it ever occur to you Bernice that Luann may not want or need your help? I think it’s time you consider a new major, because you are failing miserably with your current major.

I’ve a few people that can quickly identify other people’s faults but none of their own.
