Hey, the comic’s actually a couple of minutes early tonight, sweet. I’ll give Shannon this: she has more imagination that most kids her day in this electronic/digital day and age.
To me this shows Shannon not only showing a ‘creatives" imagination but actually is drawn to have grown, maybe second grade level. Not quite third grade yet, but I think she is beyond kindergarten or first grade. I love the way Bernice is being drawn too. As rhey both grow they can actually produxtively and have ’fun’ together. What a concept!
Y’know, I gotta admit—I LIKE Shannon in this arc. It’s that snob Bernice who sticks in my craw! I hope by Monday, Luann had finished her assignment and then SHE can offer genuine praise and encouragement.
Bern thinks she is a psychoanalyst. She cannot accept child fantasy where everything is possible. Fantasy is the beginning of progress. Every invention, or discovery started with a thought .. “What if?”. If you can dream it, you can do it. Almost nothing is off the board. Live a little Bern, enjoy life for a change instead of disagreeing with everyone and everything.
Looks like Shannon is trying hard to send to Bernice the message that the two of them can play together, even though they’re completely different. I hope I’m wrong, but Bernice seems very unable to understand or see that. Bernice is annoying me a lot, she seems to close herself more and more inside her beliefs and not be able to see beyond these. I hope it’s still possible for her to come out of her shell. Shannon could be a positive shock for her.
A thought occurs to me. At the end of this Shannon will have a cute little child’s story which will be admired by the other elders and Bernice will count it as a feather in her cap because of how successful her “methods of encouragement worked”. “Blah blah by casting doubt I pushed her to explore.. blah blah blah…”
Bern is trying to be “right”. This is a time to strengthen her psychology skills and listen/guide Shannon to maturity. I know, tough in one session but ya’gotta try.
And yes, Bernice, Shannon is right. You have no imagination. Since she keeps telling you it’s missing, maybe you should go look for it? Try the junk drawer in the kitchen first. Then you can come back and tell Shannon you found it!
Bernice doesn’t understand the laws of cartoon physics. Like how Wile E Coyote can remain suspended in mid air for several seconds after running off the cliff. Or Daffy Duck being impervious to having his beak blown off. Among others.
Wow! It is like Bernice has never read a child’s book in her life. They are filled with all kinds of imaginary situations and they are a lot of fun. Bernice’s parents must have been much worse than Shannon’s dad.
Puddles has fins and Monstro has legs and feet; now they can play; that does show imagination and thought. I hope this arc continues because Shannon took lots of paper and has many more pages to fill.
When I was six, I had imagination. I drew a picture of clothes on a clothes line and flowers in bloom below it. The teacher loved it and hung it on the school art display board, but Mom was quick to point out that the flowers would have been stepped on when the clothes were hung.
Isn’t Shannon’s imagination wonderful? Notice how easily she bridges the divide and allows these two characters to become friends. If only we grownups saw things this simply we might have less strife in the world. If we focused more on our similarities rather than our differences it might be a better world.
Good on ya, Shannon, for not letting Bernice drag you down, or make you feel stupid about what you’re trying to create! Use that ‘magination, girl, and maybe Bernice will learn a little something from you! Lighten up, Bernice, and use your own ’magination to encourage Shannon’s creativeness! Shannon is not being any sort of brat here, or is she being disrespectful. She’s just being six!

An “imagination” is just ONE of the many things that Bernice lacks, Shannon. ;-)

In fact Shannon, Berenice does have imagination plus you not being realistic.

I’ll bet Bernice’s parents squashed her childhood imaginative play in much the same way…

Cool! Monstro and Puddles can now be new cast members for season 2 of FALLOUT. ;)
It’s important to have a good imagination and a good sense of humor.
So, I guess this will go on for another week?

No Bernice doesn’t. If things are not in a textbook, then Bern can’t imagine anything.

What is wrong with you, Bernice? It’s just a silly story! It doesn’t have to make sense! Hoo-boy… Remind me not to play video games with her!
