I was fully expecting this strip to be about that miserable old biddy telling Kim she’s not allowed to play with them anymore or some other bit of (blank)iness. This, though? I needed this. This is why I can’t get sick of Shannon, even if she has her annoying moments. Such a good kid!
Interesting to see that Jonah is not in Shannon’s family drawing. Hopefully Toni and Brad notice it and realize that they are doing a real good job with Shannon, probably not as good as Nancy would do (though she has almost 30 years of experience) but certainly a much better job than Jonah could ever dream of doing.
And the reformation of the brat is complete. Now that she’s nice and normal, meaning completely boring in relation to this strip, can we hope to never see her again?
Well, today is the last day of August. Will Jonah come back for his child—and will she go with him willingly? And how would Brad and Toni feel about that? Stay tuned, folks.
Interesting and gratifying that Shannon recognizes that family is not necessarily those who spawned a child but is those who actually care for him or her.
That’s good for a wrapup, but a missed opportunity for Shannon to have a little self reflection on how she comes across as bratty like the woman in the park.
There is nothing quite like knowing you have been helpful in a child’s life. Giving them the tools and encouragement to be able to make better decisions, be more caring of other, and of course be less narcissistic , Within the world of autism there a belief that autistics lack or have a greatly reduced capacity to understand that other people have their own minds. That others have their own needs, beliefs, desires, and so forth that differ from their own. I’ve often thought we all are a little autistic, and it’s a matter of degrees. They call it theory of mind. I have sometimes wandered if they see others as having existence except for when they are in front of them in a sense. I know that my son has a lack of trust with dogs because he doesn’t know what they are going to do next. He liked and accepted our Chow dog (Hershey) because he was very calm (no jumping up on you or wanting to play) and regal in his bearing. We got a Pyrenean Mountain Dog because they can be good therapy dogs but, he never warmed up to her because she liked to pladrawn toward the consistency of mechanical or repetitive objects. I need to stop hear because I am wearing out my son’s patience (lol). Sorry this is so poorly explained, Just sorta saying that I think most of us have some autistic and narcistic traits from birth and if not helped with seeing others early own life will be hard for them and everyone around them. I absolutely loved this timeline with Shannon. It is amazing how much Brad has grown as a person in this strip. nuff said.
What a cute gift! Shannon really loves her aunt and uncle. Brad and Toni are a great family to her, it’s fair for them to have doubts about whether the way they’re treating her is right or if they should have watched her more in the park. I’m more and more sure that when Shannon leaves, the house will seem them too empty and quiet.
I appreciate this for the spotlight it puts on a common modern issue. Raising a child is about that child’s development and the opportunities they are presented with in life. I myself was ignored growing up, so I began reading the comics to practice learning how to read. It was through Garfield, For Better or For Worse, Dennis the Menace, and Family Circle that I saw what a family could look like. Now, with comics such as Luann, Heart of the City, and Jumpstart, I’m seeing brave conversations started. Remember when we would have different opinions and just leave it at that? We didn’t discuss politics or religion, but rather simply shared our life experiences with one another and all that was taken from such interactions was a deeper appreciation for that person.Let’s live there
Even though it seems we are concluding an arc, I would still like to think that Shannon and Kim could be friends (going forward), and that maybe they will meet up again in school or elsewhere. Whenever a character is named often it implies that they will continue in some way. Kim’s mother has no name (to us), therefore she’s not important and will not re-appear (the way I see it). Why would G & K have introduced us to Kim and initiated a friendship between her and Shannon (via Shannon) if we were never going to see that friendship develop or never see Kim again?
You’ve done well,as shown by the picture, but it wouldn’t hurt to be a little more aware of what’s going on. In fact you need to pay a bit more attention Right Now!
I’m glad to see that they realized that they weren’t taking good care of the little girl in the park by losing sight of her. In this day and age, it’s not a good idea to lose sight of children when they’re playing in the park!

Awwww… Isn’t that Spesial ? What a nice picture Shannon drew of them all. =)
Looks like this will be a wrap on the Month Of Shannon. It will be nice to see what some of the others have been up to. .
For the record, I feel Stef has now substantially pulled ahead of Shannon in the most annoying character race. LOL

Perhaps I shouldn’t feel this way, but it burns Me that Witch Hazel, got to shoot her mouth off with NO consequences.
I’m not saying that Toni should have DECKED her but Jeeze.
Yelling back, Bear Spray to the face, slashed tires, something.
At least Shannon appreciates the effort.
Too Bad Daddy Jonah wasn’t on the receiving end of Hazel’s “outrage.”
Then, I’d be rooting for her. ;-)

Notice that as Shannon is presenting them with her nice drawing, B & T are busy praising themselves and paying no attention to her gift.

She’s pretty close in her drawing, except for Toni’s lips which are actually much bigger.

This is known as a “heel-face turn”. When a reviled character suddenly turns good. Used in wrestling a lot
