Will Henry – How much to sponsor a Classics re-imagined series (could be hung in the Museum of Cartoon Art)? Rose in Joseph Wright of Derby’s Alchemist Discovering Phosphorus, Spud as Bartolomeo Passerotti’s Egg Thief, Amelia as Jacques-Louis David’s Napoleon Crossing the Alps, Sterling in Goya’s Saturn Devouring one of His Sons, and Wallace as Francis Drake (by whoever it was that did the best painting of Drake).
I love that Rose has her own groupies. And yes, I joined the Latin Club in high school for one year. There were a whole three of us and the teacher. They didn’t bother having it the next year. That was out of 1200 students, grades 9-12.
Is this the most undeniable example of a “Wallace” strip based on a great work of art? So much detail… even Mrs. Mac’s posture, turning back to gaze at someone? Something? [I also love that she is the stand-in for Zoroaster!] I am “guilty” of imagining references to such things where the artist did not intend such. Yeah, I’ve seen “Guernica” and “The Fall of Icarus” in “Wallace the Brave” too….
