Just hope that enough of your neighbours are burning leaves to appease the snow demons.

I remember when I grew up on a farm in the 60s and ‘70s we used to dispose of newspapers and other paper products by burning them in a large barrel. I’m pretty sure that’s not allowed anymore.

Dad is right. My Jesus is better than your Jesus, and my superstition is better than yours.

When I was a teen, I lived in a house which was perched in the middle of an inclined property. When it snowed sufficiently, I’d climb up to the front and sled down, taking care not to run into the house along the way.

In the next few minutes, we are about to be ‘serenaded’ by three back pack leaf blowers with about the same decibel rating as a passenger jet but in much lower tones. Both wife and I are stuck in house and the very low bass vibs make us seasick. Wish we could find a place to go out of the cold but we’d have to be there most of the day. And even the library is not that comfortable.

Either way, his reasoning is scary.

The snow demons come and go on their own schedules.

Maybe if Dad wouldn’t explain stuff to Calvin in such outlandish ways he might have a better grasp of some of these things.

Burning leaves is ambrosia – not pollution.

They stopped burning leaf piles before I was born, and I am nearing fifty. I think Dad has a lot to teach Calvin. If they both make the effort.

Several weeks ago I had a pleasant conversation with the person who takes care of our neighbor’s lawn.

Yesterday I am in my den and I hear him in my neighbor’s yard with his leaf blower. After a while, I thought it was louder than it should be, so I looked out and he was doing MY yard!

He said he enjoyed our conversation and wished me an early Merry Christmas.

People can be surprisingly kind.

In my area, I think you need a special permit to burn leaves. And it does pollute and it smells awful. In my family we don’t burn leaves; sure, we often rake them and put them in bags or barrels for the yard waste guys to pick up, or if they’re spread all across a lawn, we can run the lawn mower and shred the leaves with them! The small bits of leaf left over are also good for the soil.

Also, it looks like we might have kind of a warm winter in my area, no thanks to Climate Change and Global Warming.

I believe not all the angels are in Heaven, some were sent to “the other place”, Twilight Zone THIS IS THE OTHER PLACE!!!

He does, however, have a fine sense of ritual.

I don’t know about that, I suspect his grasp is more correct than than the “norm”.

I was once in a spelldown and was given the word “toboggan”. I got as far as T-O-B and then there was a long pause as I considered whether the double consonant was the B or the G. I finally did get it right but it was more a lucky guess than actual knowledge.

I did a Calvin on a toboggan when I was 8 and went down a hill and fell off a 4’ cliff and hit the frozen river, knocking the air out of me and had to be rescued and revived. Fun times!

Being a pagan man, sometimes those leaves are great for starting the bonfire.

No worries about pollution in our area…the smell of burning everything is constant. Watched the kid next door stuffing a chopped up couch into the chimenea one day.

So you take them to a dump where they burn them…
