Yeah, those “distracted” day are fun. They usually end with just falling asleep when you suddenly remember the most important thing you were supposed to do that (and, of course, didn’t). Good luck falling asleep after that!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm pie! Sweet or savoury, it’s all good! :D They have these amazing “potato” topper pies here in NZ which are essentially tiny shepherd pies—they have minced meat on the bottom half and mashed potatoes on the top half. OMC, they are DIVINE.
I could really go for a good blueberry pie. Those tiny ones that fit in the palm of your hand that you can get at Wal-Mart (used to work there a million years ago and could get them for like 35 cents with my discount). Or a good chess pie any day. (salivating) ❤
We have an older friend who frequently gets ransomware on his computer. My husband, Chris, fixes computers as a community service, not taking any payment. Andrew is uncomfortable not paying for the service, specially since he shows up in the middle of Chris’s workday. If I’m in the house, I’ll fix it for him if Chris is too busy. Why am I bringing this up? Because he “pays” us in homemade apple pie! Drops it off when it’s still warm. It the best I’ve ever had, the flakiest crust, and just the right amount of cinnamon. Baked goods, homemade jams, and casseroles are the usual currency here when one does something for free. One of the many things I love about small town living. Particularly because I’m downright dangerous in the kitchen, lol.
Okay woman, let’s get serious here. You should be making a list of all of the things you want to go get at O-Dark Thirty on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Also you should have a map out to figure out the fastest route between stores and your best track shoes so as to dash quickly through the doors of the store when it opens.
‘Start the meal prep’?? What fun is that? Do it all on The Day Of. ‘Course, my ’all’ is nowhere near as extensive as ‘tis for many—dessert is store-bought (pecan pie this year), bird is a turkey breast (we’re both fans of white meat), cranberry space goo is of course canned, dressing is a relatively minor task (this year it’s not Stove Top), Steph does the taters, which never get peeled in this household, gravy-making is always during bird ‘resting time’. Did someone ask about Green Bean Casserole? If so, wash out yer mouf. I wouldn’t waste good green beans on that awful excuse for food. Oh—rolls. They go in the oven when bird comes out.
I hope y’all enjoy the day as much as the cats of the Happy Forest will. Even though they’re Canadian cats, they get turkey on US Thanksgiving. Yes, and on Canadian Thanksgiving as well.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile (Encore Edition)
At the Royal Palace
Thomios: Do we have everything packed and ready for the trip to Uncle Floof’s Culinary School?
Sue Chef: Yep. The loaves of fresh bread are all baked. The Chocolate Everything desserts are ready, and the apple and pumpkin pies are ready to go.
Thomios: And the potato launchers are all secure. We don’t want anyone to be tempted to have an impromptu potato shoot.
At the Artisan’s Studio
Maat-Tilda: We have all the fine linen napkins folded into beautiful shapes. They look like swans, or maybe ducklings.
Sophititi: I don’t remember them being all lined up like that.
Adobe Style: I think we have Iggy here to thank for that.
Iggy: They looked like they needed to be arranged just so.
Tillie: Well, it’s good to have all your ducks in a row.

Years ago, Sally Forth ran a strip about how it must have been men who scheduled US Thanksgiving on the day after a workday.
