It should be a commandment!

Half the commenters on Non Sequitur would become violators.

It wouldn’t matter anyway if it was one – most of the religious zealots/preachers/evangelicals don’t practice what the Bible says anyway – they just in it for themselves and cloak themselves in the text and pretend to care/have faith, etc.

I’d be happy if we could just enforce the “thou shalt not lie” commandment. Especially with politicians.

One might argue that the Bible itself is one giant trolling device.

Last I heard, between the Catholics, the Protestants, and the Jewish, there are three separate versions of the 10 commandments. It’s a shame that “accept that which is different” isn’t in there anywhere.

As everybody knows, the XI commandment is “Thou shalt not get caught”.

I like George Carlins one the best. Keep thine religion to thine self.

I’ve always said the XI Commandment was ‘’Never underestimate the Power of Sarcasm’’. It really sheds a new light on the first ten.

I’d take that one over the taking the name in vain one. The world would be a nicer and happier place.

Roman numerals would have been getting a bit ahead of things then and there.

No one follows the original 10. Why would they follow this commandment from the imaginary being in the sky?

“Love your neighbor as yourself”

American Conservatives ignore anything in the Bible that doesn’t fit their politics and their secular culture, so why would they pay attention to that?

Hasn’t worked on the liars and cheaters very well either.

All that is covered, it’s just not spelled out. I’ve noticed for some time that a lot of people seem to have trouble with things that are implied, stuff we used to say “that’s understood” about, or “it goes without saying.” BTW, have you ever read The Phantom Tollbooth? It’s for kids, but I recommend it to anyone. There’s a movie, too, but as usual (not always) the book is better.

Whenever I see comic strips that show the Moses and the 10 Commandments I think of Mel Brooks and George Carlin especially Carlin’s Fire and brimstone etc “But He loves you.” LOL

I think “thou shalt not steal” and “thou shalt not bear false witness” already covered that.

“Thou shalt not much of ANYTHING” solves the problem nicely.

Moses gets the final say.

They’ll need a different tablet for these commandments. Blue tooth and wifi compatible.

’S funny that the bible-thumpers never bother to explain why the “commandments” in Exod. xx are so different from the ones in Exod. xxxiv. (The latter are the ones called “the ten commandments”—the only place in the whole Bible where that term appears—and there are many more than ten, unless you do some heavy-lift editing.)

Back when I was a history major, I was privileged to see a draft copy of the 10 Commandments, with pencilled notations in God’s own handwriting in the margins. Seems the Big Guy was undecided until the very last moment whether to go with “Thou shalt treat women and dark-skinned people as equals.” but finally decided to devote that particular slot to the vexatious and insidious problem of graven images.

God’s grammar is a bit off. “not fish nor troll”

There was trolling in the Bible. “Saul has slain thousands but David has slain ten thousands.”

I wonder what number XII is?

And I further checked them against Snopes.com

Add “Thou shalt not spam” to cover that Internet scourge.Having Canter and Siegel pelted with fire and brimstone or turned into salt pillars as they reached for the ‘send’ button would have stopped it right from the start.
