It wouldnât matter anyway if it was one â most of the religious zealots/preachers/evangelicals donât practice what the Bible says anyway â they just in it for themselves and cloak themselves in the text and pretend to care/have faith, etc.
Last I heard, between the Catholics, the Protestants, and the Jewish, there are three separate versions of the 10 commandments. Itâs a shame that âaccept that which is differentâ isnât in there anywhere.
American Conservatives ignore anything in the Bible that doesnât fit their politics and their secular culture, so why would they pay attention to that?
All that is covered, itâs just not spelled out. Iâve noticed for some time that a lot of people seem to have trouble with things that are implied, stuff we used to say âthatâs understoodâ about, or âit goes without saying.â BTW, have you ever read The Phantom Tollbooth? Itâs for kids, but I recommend it to anyone. Thereâs a movie, too, but as usual (not always) the book is better.
Whenever I see comic strips that show the Moses and the 10 Commandments I think of Mel Brooks and George Carlin especially Carlinâs Fire and brimstone etc âBut He loves you.â LOL
âS funny that the bible-thumpers never bother to explain why the âcommandmentsâ in Exod. xx are so different from the ones in Exod. xxxiv. (The latter are the ones called âthe ten commandmentsââthe only place in the whole Bible where that term appearsâand there are many more than ten, unless you do some heavy-lift editing.)
Back when I was a history major, I was privileged to see a draft copy of the 10 Commandments, with pencilled notations in Godâs own handwriting in the margins. Seems the Big Guy was undecided until the very last moment whether to go with âThou shalt treat women and dark-skinned people as equals.â but finally decided to devote that particular slot to the vexatious and insidious problem of graven images.
Moderator Frank Luntz asked Trump whether he has ever asked God for forgiveness for his actions during a Family Leadership Conference in Ames,Iowa. Trumps reply in his actual words:âI am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I donât think so,â he said. âI think if I do something wrong, I think, I just try and make it right. I donât bring God into that picture. I donât.â This from a man that who claims to follow the Presbyterian faith. Phew! He claims to have invented many words and Iâm thinking hypocrisy is one.If you are blessed with. critical thinking brain, I found this quote on several site both in print and in the actual video. And I further checked them against Snopes.com
Add âThou shalt not spamâ to cover that Internet scourge.Having Canter and Siegel pelted with fire and brimstone or turned into salt pillars as they reached for the âsendâ button would have stopped it right from the start.

Iâd be happy if we could just enforce the âthou shalt not lieâ commandment. Especially with politicians.
blunebottle 2 months ago
No, you gotta keep it to ten. You know we only have ten fingers.

One might argue that the Bible itself is one giant trolling device.

None of those apply if youâre a Stable Genius.
Or have money.

As everybody knows, the XI commandment is âThou shalt not get caughtâ.
cracker65 2 months ago
I like George Carlins one the best. Keep thine religion to thine self.
Egrayjames 2 months ago
Iâve always said the XI Commandment was ââNever underestimate the Power of Sarcasmââ. It really sheds a new light on the first ten.

Iâd take that one over the taking the name in vain one. The world would be a nicer and happier place.

Oh, So then God DOES exist according to Miller. Thanks for acknowledging the truth.
So, letâs all observe the ten commandments!

Roman numerals would have been getting a bit ahead of things then and there.

No one follows the original 10. Why would they follow this commandment from the imaginary being in the sky?

âLove your neighbor as yourselfâ

An excellent commandment.
sandpiper 2 months ago
There were only ten because using Roman numerals begins to get picky after that.

If you canât troll the waters, youâre not going to catch any phish

I think âthou shalt not stealâ and âthou shalt not bear false witnessâ already covered that.
Godfreydaniel 2 months ago
âThou shalt not much of ANYTHINGâ solves the problem nicely.
