Phil looks puzzled. Is it too much to ask for a male character in this comic strip (besides Nil) to show some interest in art or music or literature? Even if itâs just Gilbert & Sullivan or Robert Frost?
Lu is embarrassed by Mrs. Hornerâs perceptive perspective of the true meaning of the âGlovesâ poem a methaphor for how Luann approaches love. That seems true in panel three. How do we get from Philâs âold-fashioned loveâ idea to perhaps his recognition that Luann, being a hopeless romantic, might fit within his equally romantic vision? Arc time might tell.
Poets have complained that only 4 words in English rhyme with âloveâ, âshoveâ âdoveâ âgloveâ and âaboveâ. The French and Spanish donât have that problem. Which is why there are so many songs about the moon.
The long piece of wood was actually the door to a room. They are standing in what appears to be a corner. At any rate they are definitely standing at a different place than the entrance door, since they were discussing the art in the previous strip. And why on earth would there only be one sign?
Annâ€ïžEiffel is reading âFinding Your Tiger Striped Thong in a Rich Shoog Daddyâs Bedroomâ about a Shoog Daddyâs soon to be ex wife producing evidence in the divorce proceedings.
Hereâs a new game, take a shot every time Phil says âold-fashionedâ. Evanses are beating this into our heads, perhaps setting up a failed romance between modern creative woman Luann and old-fashioned Phil.
How I hoped the fact that Luann is taking a poetry class is giving more opportunities to read her poems, HOORAY! Phil seems to have figured out that the poem is about their meeting, letâs see if itâs really a love poem or maybe Mrs. Horner has read too much into it. But seeing Luannâs embarrassment it could really be about love.
Itâs pretty obvious now that Gregâs drawing gloves on Phil even at inappropriate times (which many readers noticed) was his method of foreshadowing⊠bringing us here.
Speaking of gloves, why is Phil still wearing âlatexâ gloves? Ridiculous. âOldâ ladies were young once and wearing cotton gloves with a stylish outfit was the norm. Formal wear and British royalty still favor gloves. Another social nicety that has been lost with consideration and politeness.

Donât knock Luannâs efforts.
âFolksâ love âfinding tales.â
Which is probably why âFinding Nemoâ was such an inexplicable âhit.â ;-)

So, where did the long piece of wood go that was vertically next to the Sweethearts sign 2 days ago? Nil took it outside to paint and eye on it.

Old-fashioned ladiesâ gloves? That happens to be one of countless abstract fetishes a former friend of mine has.

Love how Lu is acting like a poised young woman around Nil and Phil rather than her usual ditzy schoolgirl.

Shouldnât Mrs. Horner have asked Luann if it was okay to show her poem to Phil?? Sheâs not very tactful.
