Yes, Tabby and Dixie were two of his cats. And being such a great cat person, we celebrate him, and other presidents, by having mattress sales. Because cats love to sleep….. But he also had a turkey named Jack. Seems like a good name for a turkey.
Serfig-Aro: It gives me great pleasure to announce the first annual celebration of Government Day. Queen Catshepsut will make the first speech.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: To celebrate everyone’s participation in governing this magnificent country, I commend one and all! First, Elvis-Anum for writing down our history, Beatrixia for preserving the scrolls and making them available to one and all! Puckmoisis, who administrates the running of this country, and Lupinium for presenting the arts and entertainment so effectively. And those who all do their part. (Many names are mentioned).
Puckmosis: And I wish to give a shout out to those who provide so many resources From Where We Know Not. Alice, Agnes, Vi, and Tash!
Alice-Ata: For once we will tell. We love all of you, and enjoy providing resources From Where We Only Know.
Elvis-Anum: And I would like to commend one whose service is without peer.
I have Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays marked on my calendar because I think they should be remembered as the people they were and for what they did. Neither was a saint, both had feet of clay, as it were, but that only serves to enhance their greatness. They “rose above it.” I wish we had people of anywhere near their caliber in government today. That applies to all politicians, of whatever stripe.
Oh yeah, “President’s Day.” That’s on my calendar, too, so I know not to go to the post office.
Now there was a real president. Not perfect, but he never professed to be. He was just trying to do the right thing at a time when others seemed more content to split the country apart over it rather than come to an agreement.
Spielberg’s Lincoln film has lots of details for authenticity; he even recorded and used the sound of Lincoln’s own watch (it still works!), and he wanted to show the White House cats but it was too hard to Herd Cats to match different takes. The closest he got was Tad driving Nanny pulling her cart through the hallway. You can see the goat who played Nanny (Dixie, a male Alpine Wether) and the cart on YouTube. Lincoln even had goats embroidered on his house slippers!
I liked celebrating Washington’s and Lincoln’s Birthdays separately. Two days off school in a week. Almost every holiday has been ruined by the “Monday Holiday Takeover.”
I’ve been in communication with GoComics support regarding the upgrades mentioned and asked specifically about the “modernized” commenting mentioned. The responses indicate that comments will be returning to the political comics. “The new system will allow us to return commenting to the site in a healthier fashion.” Also, for the non-political comics: “The new system will allow for greater user control of their comment experience, but primarily it will provide the moderators with more tools to weed out bad actors which often can negatively impact the comment experience of others on the site.” Since I had focused on the comments and the price in my questions to them, they added: "Please do not base your assessment of the “worthiness” of the price increase on this singular upgrade. The site is full of new features and technical enhancements which (noticed or not) will improve your onsite experience."
President’s Lincoln’s two cat’s names were Tabby and Dixie. When asked about her husbands hobby Mary Todd Lincoln gave a one word answer , “cats”. My kind of guy!

Love the kittens’ outfits!
I also am an endearingly disheveled cat person. Abe and I have a lot in common!

No toe beans today? My condolences to those suffering withdrawal.

Lincoln being a cat person is lovely, and much more believable than being a vampire hunter.

I wish I could be “endearingly disheveled” and not just “scruffy” or “overly casual” or “are you wearing those shoes AGAIN?!”

I love Iggy peeking in from the side. No lil wave though.

What is President’s Day for?

Ayn Rand was also a cat person, and is on the record as stating that cats are objectively valuable.
…this is about the only thing she and I agree on. Well, that and the atheism.

This should be interesting. I know some of the Lincoln legend but have no clue what they’re being taught in American schools…

I’m of the opinion that Presidents’ Day should be on November the 2nd, since it’s the only birthday shared by two presidents.

If you think Abe was the most disheveled, I suggest you take a look at a picture of Martin Van Buren. Don’t think he was a cat person, though.

My fiancée would love this. She’s obsessed with Lincoln. I am home sick, but I will show it to her when she returns. The little Abe Lincoln outfits are amazing!

It’s so nice that the kittens get their own report. I’m sure they worked very hard on it!

This is my birthday week and I’m delighted to get the wonderful gift of this report about our most endearingly-disheveled, cat-loving president.

It’s -40° C here, with windchill approaching -50. Although it’s a provincial holiday called “Family Day”, we will not be leaving the house.

He may of loved cats, but where was one cat to trip Booth as he went up the stairs to assasinate Lincoln?
