Question for commenters who live near any coast: Are there any rideshare companies who have boats that take people to/from nearby islands? Uber boats? Seems like a workable idea if done right.
Wake Island is an atoll. And there is an airfield on it Wake Island is shaped like the one in the cartoon. The chartered plane I was on going to Vietnam did stop at Wake Island. We never got off the plane. This was in February 1967.
Based on my research, it appears that some islands in Bikini Atoll still exist after the H-bomb tests, but not all of them. Here’s what I found:
The Bikini Atoll originally consisted of 23 islands, but three of them (Bokonijien, Aerokojlol, and part of Namu) were completely destroyed during the nuclear tests.
The majority of the residents of Bikini Atoll were relocated to Rongerik Atoll and later to Kili Island after the nuclear tests. Some islands in the Bikini Atoll remain uninhabited to this day due to the lingering effects of the nuclear tests, including contaminated groundwater and radioactive coconuts.
So, while there are still some islands left in Bikini Atoll, the nuclear tests had a devastating impact on the environment and the people who once called these islands home.
Just an FYI, no doubt of small interest: The \o\ in the word “toll” rhymes with the \o\ in tole, roll, poll, etc. “Toll” didn’t start out sounding the same as “tall.” It’s true that I did know a seven-year-old child several decades ago who believed very firmly that “toll” sounded just like “tall”, but he had made that decision on his own when he read The Phantom Tollbooth" and he stuck to it.
So far, the tall pronunciation is unsupported in dictionaries. But be of good cheeer! I’m sure it soon will be, because dictionaries tend to be descriptive, not prescriptive. Thus doth the language roll [!] right along. ;-)

All atolls are islands, but most islands (even those of the same area size) are not atolls.

Give it a little time, guys. By the shape of the land, it is obvious that it will return from whence it came.

Ask the right question, for the right outcome.
Did he ask when the next ferry arrives?

There’s a bigger island right behind you, so start swimming. You can get there before the sharks arrive.
