It is a shame that the store does not have a security guard for situations like this one.

I watched a woman in a Walmart, with a new small room-sized garbage can in her cart, rip open a box of garbage bags so she could try one in her new can she was buying. It fit. What did she do? She threw the open box and the loose bag back on the shelf and picked up a new, unopened box of bags to put in her cart. I called her an a$$hole straight to her face. I’m sure she went home and told her s.o. how some guy was so rude to her.

Can’t tell if that are stale or fresh baked without handing. Just don’t open it, stick your hand in the bag and touch them directly please. And no need to CRUSH them to tell.

It looks like she has been handled too many times. And also been rejected too.

I’ve seen so much shoplifting that a bun squeezer is a breath of fresh air. Before Safeway locked up the liquor I saw a guy filled a cart full of booze and wheeled it right to a waiting car. The policy is not to confront the thieves.

I worked in the retail field for most of my life. I would constantly see customers tear packages open to “examine” products CLEAR packages, mind you then put them back onto the shelf to buy one that hadn’t been? opened.

Most stores have “tongs” to use to put rolls in bags so people won’t put their dirty hands on them.

    Very helpful during the pandemic.

There was a woman, who frequented the same market as me. She would feel all the muffins and sniff them too. Never once did she buy one. I was told she came in everyday.

I gave her the title Muffin Molester

Now, due to the plague, all the pastries are in packets or baggies. More hygienic.

The irony is that the best way to pick bakery goods is by experience with the bakery. The first time is the only time you wonder.

It is not always perfect, but nothing is. A couple years ago we got some lemon poppyseed muffins from Safeway. My wife thought they smelled odd but my nose is not that good. The first bite was bitter and made spots where it touched her tongue numb so she spit it out. I tested another one more gingerly with the same result – numbed my tongue where it touched and tasted metallic. I was barely able to finish eating it. (JK!!!) I took the rest of the package back and explained the problem.

Reminds me of the old joke about the woman in a butcher’s shop trying to pick out a raw chicken. The woman sniffed between the chicken’ s legs and made a face. To which the butcher replied; “Madam, could YOU pass such a test?”

In our case, since this is a topic about baked goods, we buy our bread, bagels and buns at our favorite local bakery. All their baked goods are behind the counter. I’ve never bought baked goods at the large grocey store.

When we were growing up, our mother made all the baked goods. I just don’t know when she found the time, what with looking after the household, baking, cooking and working full time, but we always had homemade bread.

Our local bakery is the closest one in taste to what our mother used to make. I don’t care if it costs more than in the large grocery store, it is worth it.

There was a day when grocery stores would force her to pay for the goods she damaged. These days they are afraid of lawsuits and boycotts, so no one is challenged.

I have seen people do that in several stores I have been in. I remember customers doing that way back when I was working in my local A&P. That was from 1966 to 1968. They fired me 2 weeks before I graduated HS because of the return Veteran law that states a person has the right to return to work no matter if they enlist or are drafted. They knew when I was leaving for Basic. I enlisted in the AF in March 68

This woman is like the idiots I’ve read about who ask that a boxed item be opened so they can look at it, then demand another box because they “don’t want one that’s been opened.”
