I have to laugh about Tiffany’s dreamy stare in the last panel.

What i notice most, though, is that Gunther feels safe enough with Tiffany to be himself, personality warts and all. That is similar to her feeling safe enough with him to let him see her without makeup. These two have a foundation for at least a strong friendship, but will he realize it?

If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with…I think that might’a been a song or sumthin’

Piro looks like he drank too much, the night before….kind of an,“Eeyore” type, from Winnie the Poo!Quiet, sullen, not given to small talk.

Gunther’s speech kind of reminds me of the nearly recent meme, shown here… – It also reminds me how it feels when you like a girl, but then…"that guy"….happens to show up and becomes the hilarious “bane of our social existence”…. – Hopefully Gunther won’t ask “What does he have that I don’t?”…

In my head, I hear Piro’s name pronounced “Pie row”. Like pyromaniac. I expect him to be setting fires someplace. I guess maybe he’s setting some hearts afire…

Brd, saw your note. My gosh. Hey, there are a number of us here who enjoy reading your perspective! Oh, and you did not make me do anything. I had two separate things to consider, what you said and something a kind soul here mentioned to me offlist. Both made sense, so i acted accordingly.

Gunther might not realize it yet, but he’s communicating with Tiff like she has become a comfortable friend that he can vent with. No stuttering no bumbling, and he’s in her room and she’s listening to his rant with patience and a touch of humor. With all that passion, the next step could create an awakening or, if Greg follows his pattern, it will just be another flame out. Will Tiff comfort him, give him a hug, sit him down, hold his hand, or will Gunther just stomp out of the room?

Gunther is using a typical defense mechanism. He knows that if he keeps dressing the same way, acting the same way, communicating the same way, the results will be that he can establish girl friends – but never a girlfriend. Gunther doesn’t like change – or situations where he can control, with certainty, the outcomes. So he wants a relationship on his terms, under his pre-established conditions.

Apparently, Tiffany has figured this out and seems to be willing to patiently – but also steadily – pull Gunther out of comfort zone. Rosa had the same understanding – but lost the opportunity.

Luann? She has enough in solving her own life problems without multitasking Gunther at the same time. Bernice is just a mess and Gunther would be best at moving on.

Subconsciously Bernice wants a bad boy, that’s something gunther isn’t.

I think Piro wants to be alone but can’t afford it. That’s why he sleeps around in other people’s places.

In the present arena, Tiffany is smarter than Gunther. Gunther needs another good comment or two from Tiffany, followed by a nice hug…

Here’s a different thought; Maybe the reason Piro sleeps in different places with no place of his own is because he has PTSD. He isn’t destitute (walks around with a laptop everywhere). And he tends to keep to him, even as he crashes in other dorm rooms. Plus, I remember him telling Bernice how likes silence. And I wondered if there was a reason for it?

I’m wondering what is going through Tiffany’s mind right now. She has the look of a hungry cat eyeing a plump canary.

Well Gunth its like this: SOME Chicks LOVE the Mysterious, Brooding, WORTHLESS Types. That is, until those “Types” LEAVE them with two or three kids, and those Chicks have put on 30 or 40 pounds. Then, all of a sudden, YOU are gonna look mighty GOOD to “Them!”

I am just absolutely amazed that for so many people different has to mean so many negative connotations. Yes, i realize that is real life for many, but we are in the 21st century and the world is a wide place with many interesting things to learn: viewpoints, their foundations, different art, new cuisines, etc. So what if people who differ do not agree on everything. People with certain overt similarities also don’t. Folks here probably have had many fun conversations with people who have different ethnicities, different proportions, different colorations, different ages, different religions or lack of same, and a host of other differences, including different levels of outward attractiveness — and guess what? We work just fine as a community. We form connections. We care when one in our community has a problem and cheer when one has a success.

So, please, let Piro just be mysterious instead of judging negatively without data.

I never thought I’d be saying this, but the time seems right for Tiffany to plant a big, juicy one on Gunther.

I do see what girls see in Pyro. I set my eyes on a few like that back in the day, but it was hard to get them to open up. One turned out to be a heavy drinker who died in his sleep. Another turned out to be gay and died of complications of AIDS. One is a registered sex offender living in the desert in Nevada. I don’t know what happened to the others. Lucky for me I didn’t marry a guy like that.

I wonder if Tiffany will just say something like “Gunther, if you are interested in a relationship with Bernice, then TELL HER. Women are not mind readers.”

Some women (and men) are attracted to people that they think need fixing, someone they can help. It never works and they usually end up in an abusive relationship. Emotionally healthy people are attracted to equally healthy people.

Heh… maybe, just maybe Gunther should get a pair of hair clippers and cut some sort of non-star shape into the side of his hair. If he is creative enough, perhaps he can pull it off like Piro does? What would be Gunther’s “shape”?1) A Nebulae? (more “flashy” than just a star!)2) A circle shaped “star” (more realistic than the stereotypical star shape)3) An image of Einstein smoking a pipe (more detailed than a darn star, and an homage to a scientist/hero!)4) A storm cloud (it may enhance that “brooding” image that the girls seem “so” attracted to!)5) A “Pi” symbol (today only, for Pi Day, of course).

Tiffany is rather socially adroit. I wonder if she will point out to Gunther that the resistance many people have against individuals who differ from them is similar to the way nerds are treated: different so must be avoided, must be somehow damaged to not be like the majority of the herd, must be somehow bad. It is not true in that application either, and my nerd and i are happily approaching our 36th anniversary. Over time he has become less nerdly and i have become more so, BTW, because in being comfy with ourselves we became comfy with trying on more aspects of ourselves.

Tiffany’s next line should be…“but so are you..”

Maybe this would mean more if Gunther actually seemed to like Bernice. He seemed to pursue a relationship with Bernice not because he’s attracted to her but more because she was a “logical choice/match” for him. (At least that’s what I’ve always gotten from him.

Tiffany appears rather used to dealing w a male being very hot headed. That might give hints to pressures and appeasements from her past. There might be info about Tiff here beyond her friendship style.

I agree that Gunther has not shown a true interest in Bernice for herself, so wonder how much of his anger is frustration from not getting his way — something he should have long ago learned to deal with — or frustration because his plans did not work out as hoped. Gunther needs to learn that much of what is best in life does not come from a plan.

Gunther is a nice guy. And nice guys finish last. I know.

Who would have thought that in a strip featuring Tiffany and Gunther, Tiff would be the breath of sanity and level-headedness, while Gunther would be ranting and raving and almost foaming at the mouth? These are strange times….

Tiffany is being a good listener, letting Gunther vent and answering only when questioned, and being straight-up in her answers (which Gunther needs but doesn’t necessarily like).. I think she’s in her element and this time the tables are turned and Gunther needs her help and advice. Gunther may have the quantitative / mathematical IQ but Tiffany has social / emotional IQ. Perhaps this time she will help him.
