Wait, hold on, I wanted to see if Puddles could teach Luann any new tricks.

Happy to see Bets back with Gun and Les.

Where is Tiffany – unless Luann is watching the live streaming.

One of Les’ favorite things to do is to put down Gun.

Whew, a new arc. And its Bets and Gun! Long time no see, kids!

The BAD news is, “Grumpy Les,” is back and he seems intent on hanging around, making snarky remarks, and genuinely ruining the week.

Hey, Les? A suggestion. You got two choices here. You can grab Punk and go play with your pus….,uh I mean, your “kitten.” OR You can accompany Bets and Gun the next time they go to a “for real” cosplay convention.

Hear Me out. You wouldn’t even have to dress up all that much. You could go as the Fonze or even Danny from “Grease” since you kinda sorta have that “John Travolta” look going on after a few stiff drinks and total belief has been suspended. Find a black suit and you can go as Vincent from “Pulp Fiction.”

Lots of young women at these cosplay events. and All of them aren’t dressed like “Sailor Moon.” Some are dress like Jessica Rabbit, Red Sonja or Catwoman. Others are manning a booth. Although if I were you, I’d be on the look out for the ones dressed as ‘Meriam’ from Budd Roots’ Cavewoman Comics.

oh look Gunny is in the strip, honestly i could not even remember if he was even still with Bets, but i’m with Les i don’t speak as he said Dork lol. though i do know what Cos Play is though

We’re still seeing Ann E. at the bottom of the comments. She still looks amazing. Don’t color her gone.

If Les hangs tight and watches the costumes, he’ll be asking for a dork translation dictionary soon enough.

Les will end up getting sucked in to the cosplay and to be different, show up at the con as Sailor Moon.

Cosplay is the future? Are graph paper shirts buttoned up to the collar and sweater vests a thing of the past now?

Cosplay has been around for years – I’m not sure how that makes it the future.

Just when we thought that Les had some redeeming qualities after all.

Looks like I was right about Ben not appearing in the previous arc. Vindication!!!!

Les, this is a French Medieval costume. Not sure if that is the future. BTW, Bets is wearing a Star Trek ship crew costume. THAT is the future.

Bets looks really hot in Frame 2.

They will ask to borrow Punk as a prop and Les will have to supervise, then he’ll get sucked in and he’ll be hooked. Darn them! But then they’ll get all kinds of feedback on how cute and adorable Punk was (inevitable!) and the gals will clamor to meet Punk’s dad. Woot! Les gets lots of phone numbers! Then he’ll be bugging G & B to put on more cosplay whatsits and secretly dressing Punk up as Puss in Boots. Arrrh!

Change Leslie’s opening line. Instead of, “What’s all this?” He could have said, “Hey, you two were up and gone early this morning.”

I think Les could totally pull of a steampunk thing.

(Of course, by the end of the week, we may discover he’s a closet Brony.)

What a great line, “I don’t speak dork.” Followed by Bets’ instant translation. What a funny strip to start the week.

Its always great to see Bets and Gunther. He seems enhanced somehow, having a compatible and hot girlfriend can do that for a guy. I think a setup (more gentle than the one we just saw with Luann) is coming with Les, and I think Gunther’s interest in clothing design, and Bets marketing and social media savvy might presage a future 21st Century type gig success. But maybe not. This is not a deterministic strip.

I cosplay as Alice Liddell from Alice: Madness Returns.

It must drive Les up a wall that Gunnie has a girlfriend and he has not had one for the duration of the strip. Truth be told, Les probably watches the sci-fi lineup on MeTV on Saturday nights if he is not working at KK washing dishes and he does not get many dates. Heck he probably is a closet TOS and Buck Rogers fan (especially if he seen Erin Gray from the show)……

Leslie Knox is still crossing his fingers what Tiffany Farrell might like his yucky lips.

I went to a costume Ball at the World Science Fiction in the 1970’s where a young woman came as Dejah Thoris.

Woo-boo! Bets is back, and in the Classic Trek Mini! Looking forward to more, but TBH I don’t think that little pink number on the rack will work for either of them…

Nowadays, you can make tons of money by dressing up in silly costumes and complaining in videos.

More boring Bets and Gunther. Never have liked either character.Bets is just creepy and an attention w@#$% for social media. Gunther still has no backbone and pretty much is a doormat for Bets.

Cool! New arc! I thought that whole at-the-park-with-Jack one was a bit boring.

Gunther had finally realized that his tailoring skills can become a well-paying job? HOORAY!!! This is certainly thanks to Bets’ economic knowledge and advices! And to be honest, I think Less would make a great cosplayer. A pirate with a gray cat on his shoulder instead of a parrot, or some character on the verge between good and evil.

I like enterprising Gunny and Bets (anyone notice what I did there?). They are making the most of the times and their talents (yeah, too bad Bets is behind that chair in panel 2; she’s got legs, and she knows how to use them), unlike Leslie Knox, who may not speak dork but surely is dork….

Tiffany needs a “significant other.” Could be, might be…..Leslie. She can dial up her tease, and Les can dial down his sleaze, and they can both hide their romp from their parents.

This is what I want to see – Les gets talked into participating in their panel with a costume on and becomes an internet sensation!

And yet, the “dork” has a girlfriend, Leslie.

there are so many channels for this kind of thing anymore, that finding the right angle to attract viewers is difficult. I wonder what they plan on doing differently. Oh wait, this is a comic strip. they’ll be the top of the heap by the end of the week.

Cosplay is the “future”? Greg has obviously never been to a GenCon. Every year, usually the Sunday before the Super Bowl at around noon Eastern, the Internet slows to a crawl for a couple of hours, followed by significant wailing and gnashing of teeth – by the people who tried and failed to get a hotel within walking distance of the convention center. It’s not all gamers. (Do a YouTube search for “gencon costume (or cosplay) parade.”)

Poor Les. If he only knew how HOT the women are at any Cosplay event. LOL

While I kind of liked last week’s arc, I’m not disappointed to return to Gunther and Bets. If anything, today’s switch suggests that Saturday was a “cliffhanger” – also suggesting that Bernice got more than room and board out of this deal…

Yes, we’re about to learn Bern’s back story, and it may be a good one. The Sunday snarks may have irritated some, but perhaps we are now about to see where it came from.

But for now, we’re back to Gunther and Bets. And wait! I saw questions from the peanut gallery about Tiffany! As others have rightly noted, these are the characters which carry the strip.

I’m not a fan of “cosplay” and, in another strip, the author’s fixation with “cosplay” damaged it pretty badly (Dick Tracy). Nevertheless, this looks like lighthearted play, so I’ll roll with it.

So, I like what I see and I think I’ll stick around!

Bets looks good as Uhura in Starfleet (TOS) red. Better than Zoe Saldana (JJ Abrams ruined Uhura by having the character supplant Bones in the triumvirate) but can’t compare with Nichelle Nichols in that costume. Whew! Uhura was a great character AND eye candy!

Cleverest (and most original) one I ever saw was a guy dressed simply in civies with a long overcoat, a fedora with a card stuck in the band showing “PRESS.” Something like the below link. Worked great. He got a lot of interest from the gals.

Les has lived with Gunther for a couple years now. Surely he has picked up a little Dork.

I love Bets and Gun. That said, the Luann and Bernice arc ended a little early.

This is the Luann comic strip. Let’s see more of Luann and her relationships instead of so much of all the others.

BTW, cosplay is supposed to be the future…of =what=? And it’s been around for ages, so why hasn’t it completely changed our entire society yet? And where the heck are these three right now??

Apropos of nothing, or maybe the hentai comment I read above, but I would love to see Bets model that little green number hanging in front of the bar in panel one. Her and Tara the two non-married sexiest females currently in the strip. Non-married, I think Luann is up there but she never is shown wearing anything daring. She is a cutie.

Oh cruel reminder of the beforetimes… when you could still go to conventions…

It’s amusing to see that my early comment is the featured comment of the day, but it’s you, all the haters out that who called me a troll that put me there. There’s a comment that must be as old as the internet which I’m surprised that no one of you thought to apply: “Don’t Feed The Troll!” If you don’t like what I say walk away (or scroll away) Everyone who paused to tell me how terrible I am just pushed the number of replies up until I’m the first thing people see today.

I’ve been reading Luann for at least twenty years. I remember when Brad decided to become a fire fighter post 9-11. And I’ve used GoComics library to go back and read the earlier stuff. Luann was great right up until the first end of the Quill cycle. Luann was lively, witty, a fun character. But as the strip round up to high school graduation Luann was seen less and less in the strip while Bernice, never know as a fun character, took center stage. And when Luann did show up she was mostly the butt of jokes. In the 4-5 years since Graduation the strip has become a mess of unfinished plotlines, contrived plot points and a fail to actually come to grips with the challenges of life after High School. If I seem snarky it’s because whoever is writing this strip is doing a terrible job.

I like Bets and I’m happy to see this week’s story. She has had a problem in the past of taking and posting video of Gunther online without asking his permission first. It doesn’t matter how much in love you are with someone that is still rude and her habit of interrupting him to post video or check her phone suggests that she’s not so much in love with Gunther as she finds him a useful prop for her video existence.

I joke about Princess Leia’s slave costume because it is one THE iconic images from Star Wars. Someone mentioned in the comments that anyone under 30 wouldn’t know what I meant,yet no one seems at all confused when I called it the metal bikini. It even had it’s own website at one time (Leia’s Metal Bikini, currently offline). It’s hard to talk about cosplay without mention it.

It’s interesting that while Bets describes this like a Podcast, they have a rack of lady’s costumes next to the set. Are we to imagine that Bets is going to pause during their podcast to change costumes? It will be interesting to see which costumes she plans to wear.

I think Luann is afraid to try to get involved with a guy romantically, so far every guy she’s tried, she’s been burned. You can only have your heart broken but so many times before you refuse to take another chance. It’s probably why she puts boys in the friend zone.
