Not a good idea holding a firecracker as it goes off. A few years ago, the news here in Sacramento was interviewing a guy from his hospital bed. He evidently was driving around in his car and tossing lighted M – 80’s and M – 500’s out the window. Well, as he explained it, one of the M – 500’s that was lit fell into his lap, and went off before he could retrieve it. According to him, he was no longer complete.

That is a time – traveling skateboard. He went right off the roof and straight into the next panel, knocking his future self off the ladder. I always hate it when that happens.
Frank, falling off a ladder is no joke. I did while cutting a tree down, i still have a scar on my right hand from it. You’re lucky you just bruised your shoulder.
It takes a gift for a healthy man of 50-ish to fall off a stepstool and hurt himself. Now if it were a man in his seventies ladders can be dangerous. Get your lazy-assed kids to do the climbing.
What stupid things get away with as a kid, as with Frank, does not translate to middle-age well might be fatal. If Frank is ironically nostalgic he should knock it off
In the “old days” we had firecrackers called Lady Fingers. They could be held in the fingertips if you were showing off for the “little kids.” Ah, the “goo ole days.” 8^ )
Always get someone to steady the ladder before climbing.
Or, get someone else to climb the ladder while you steady it. Nancy for instance since it was probably her idea for you to be on the ladder in the first darn place.
Or better yet, hire somebody to do the ladder work. Oh that’s right. You’re a cheapskate.
Characters in this Strip seem to have a “problem” with ladders.
They are either constantly falling off them (Frank and TJ) or have no idea what a ladder is for (Mr. Gray, Les and Gunther). ;-)
so the implication is that he emerged from ALL of that other stuff without getting injured, including holding a firecracker as it EXPLODED in his fingers?!
One winter, when I was a young pup, some friends and I had found a supply of firecrackers and were lighting and tossing them. One decided to go off while I was still holding it in my thumb and forefinger, blowing holes in the knit glove I was wearing- and leaving my skin untouched.
In my experience, as the body ages, the mind regresses. So the mind says, “You’re 25 you can do this.” The body says, “If you try, this is really going to hurt.”
Good thing this is taking place in the past. Getting your fingers blown off will not get you any medical aid due to the unvaccinated taking up all the hospital beds.
All the times growing up when an adult would say to me “You’ll pay for that later”, I would say or think “yeah yeah whatever”. Sense my late 40s, I now see how right they were!
Interesting that the hammer ended up sitting pointing straight up with the claw of the hammer straight down. Most of the time if a hammer falls, it will end up lying on one side or another. But nothing is impossible in Luanniverse…
