This seems like a retcon of Luann’s love life. There was never a “secret” crush on Aaron Hill. She was pretty straight-forward about that. And what about all the other crushes in her life, like Miguel and Stuart and Jack and Quill. There was never this hesitation. And I don’t even know what Bernice’s beef is about. Once again Luann has been reduced to a 12 year old virgin.

Is Bernice being serious or joking ?

But in all seriousness, I kinda get where Luann’s coming from. It’s hard to explain in words to anyone who hasn’t experienced such, but there actually is a major difference between having an innocent (or secret) crush on somebody, and actually being in love with somebody. It doesn’t sound like Luann is exactly in love, but again, you really have to have the experience to fully understand the difference.

luann is growing up…a bit of self-realisation, some understanding of herself. Gosh though, she does heap trouble on herself doesn’t she?

Secret crush on Aaron? Hardly secret. Everyone knew about it except perhaps for Aaron himself.

Sheesh.

Nothing ever changes with Lu.

One would never know that she once dated a “near perfect guy.”

Heck, she never even mentions his name anymore.

OTOH, I dunno if I’d be baring My soul to Bernice, Lu. ;-)

Luann’s biggest problem is that her best friend is such a downer.

Look at it this way… she certainly did something with the swine, Pedo, and that ended up as a one night stand and he didn’t respect her in the morning. Or the night before, for that matter. Our Be❤️ed, Kind ❤️ed, Patriotic ❤️ Count sincerely hopes Pedo is boiled in his own pudding and buried with a sprig of holly through his ❤️. Oh, yeah, out with Phil (he’s a swine and not worthy) and bring back Alan.

Sure Bernice, make it all about YOU! You always do.

Bernice is like a stone in her shoe

Sounds like Luann is afraid of her own feelings and Bernice can relate to that.

There’s some honest introspection here. I did say, last week, that Lu had to confront her feelings. Bern’s glib punchline at the end is the requisite comedic element.

Oooo, poor little Bernice.

Not a surprised that what Bernice remembers most from those years is how annoying it was to hear Luann complain about how Aaron ignored her. But saying it like that makes it sound like she never cared about Luann’s sadness. I hope that doesn’t stop Bernice from supporting Luann if the date doesn’t go well.

I had a couple of crushes in HS (decades back). Never got the nerve to act on them. I eventually met someone a few years after college that it came easily with. We have been married for 32 years now. It worked out fairly well for me.

It’s Bernice’s World and we just live in it… She needs to go find Piro and obsess over him and don’t interfere with Phil and Luann.

I wonder if she’ll take this long deciding what flavor ice cream she wants. { eye roll }

Kinda brings to mind that remark of Henry Ford’s quoted in Frazz a couple of days ago.

So Luann had a fail safe.

I think this is the first time in living memory Bernice said/did something that was actually amusing, instead of annoying!!

this why Bernice is aggraviting she makes everything about herself, when her friend just needs a little pick me up instead she has to be the downer friend. Oblivously, Bernice doesn’t understand the message of friendship, like Joe Crocker’s song, with a little help from my friends.

I think Luann, deep down, is being shy about the possibility that “something” WILL happen.

Oh, and HEY, get your mind out of the gutter, I didn’t mean THAT something.

I’m not sure Luann knows the definition of the word “secret” considering she talked about Aaron to anybody that would listen, and threw herself at him every chance she had.

I am glad that Luann is becoming more self-aware. She preferred the company of her fantasies because in there, she will never be disappointed.
