Humpty Dumpty Redux To the amusement of some, and bemusement of all, there Humpty sat still high on hiw wall. Defying all odds, and civility, with gall, no matter how hard he was pushed, Humpty just wouldn't fall. It soon became clear from such dangerous heights, that Humpty longed for a time when only white men had rights. "We thought he's a joke", was the common refrain, but putting Humpty in power was clearly insane. How could that wall stand under such a vile Ego's weight, when it's made mostly of mud on a foundation of hate? As fingers were pointed, Humpty looked on with glee. Just how the wall got there, somehow no one could see. The reason for walls is to make us divide, and the bigger a wall, the more scoundrels can hide. So to avoid any more Humptys and their calamitous falls, the best place to start is to stop building walls.

WHO should stop building walls? The US to stop the invasion from the south?Israel to continue the reduction of terrorists entering their country?
Or the other 63 countries in the world who want to protect their citizens from those who would destroy them?Every nation has a right to defend itself. Without walls, there are no nations.

Radar, Without walls there are no nations? You mean if we don’t build a wall, France wouldn’t exist any more? I’m confused;….Besides, it is almost impossible to get a job or get any benefits if you are illegal. I worked in agriculture for a decade….If you hire somebody without a SS card, you get in big trouble…..The problem really isn’t as bad as you think it is, though…The number of illegals coming into the country has dropped precipitously in the last few years, and tens of thousands have been shipped back, in record numbers in the last few years, in record numbers…..Calm down, go to the store and buy some compassion….You’re supply is getting low….BTW, at least 63 countries in the world are terrified of Trump, Cruz, and all the rest…Can’t say I blame them…..I am too….

I get this, and it’s spot on.
Our society has become so quick to take sides on any and every issue, that all one has to do is become the issue. People will compulsively line up on one side or the other of that wall. As debate among the masses ensues, that debate generates more supporters for each side, who recruit more supporters, and so on. At that point it has become a false dichotomy.

Hardly anyone ever talks about the root problem: Mexico is broken. It has too little market freedom and too much organized crime and corruption. A wall is just a temporary measure that ignores long-term solutions.

Not a real wall but a metaphorical one. Every brick is an opinion on how people differ and which difference is better. It’s a wall of prejudice, intolerance and fear.

In a perfect world we need no borders and John Lennon’s “Give Peace a Chance” is the world anthem. Unfortunately that is not reality. The US does not need a wall to keep Canadians from crossing our border in droves, but we still have to be vigilant to protect our sovereignty. That is the duty of every government, or that government will cease to exist.

Human history is a funny thing. Once upon a time here in Texas, the legal and illegal immigrants refused to learn the national language, refused to send their children to state schools, refused to recognise local custioms, took jobs and resources from the citizenry.Sound familiar? These immigrants were mostly Anglos fleeing from a broken country, the United States, seeking freedom, land and wealth.Oh yeah, they took our women, too.Go back another couple of hundred years before that and re-play the whole scenario. Anglos again fleeing tyranny, stealing an entire continent from its legal inhabitants.Go back another 20 centuries and the Anglos/Caucasians over ran Europe, displacing the inhabitants, the Neanderthals.Human history repeats itself, over and over again. Now, if instead of building walls, why don’t we work on solving the problems? The solution to Mexicos drug problem is for the citizens of the United States to stop using drugs. I suppose if Mexico suddenly stopped all drug traffic into the US, the US would go to war with Mexico to make them sell US drugs. China once stopped selling opium to the British, the Brits went to war with China, fo force the Chinese to sell them opium.Human history is a funny thing………..

Healthy boundaries are required for a healthy psyche and nation. There are those who would do to this country what the AIDS virus does to the human body. BTW, the movement to raise the minimum wage to $15 is really to encourage more illegal immigrantion, which is a subsidy to business. Immigration reform is about making the Hispanic our replacement for the black. The Democrats have succeded in destroying the black family and they will do the same to the Hispanic. Walls protect as well as exclude. Wiley shows his cognitive imparedness by his all or nothing thinking.

Before there were countries there were wars. People build walls when they feel threatened. Emotional, psychological, physical walls. There are walls in countries; walls in cities; walls in towns; walls in the homes. The politicians build walls to sustain themselves. There are walls built on laws. Walls built on hate. Walls built on good intentions with bad unintended consequences.Everyone hates someone or something. Everyone has a cause that builds walls. Whites hate blacks. Blacks hate whites (and please don’t tell me that isn’t so). Israeli’s fear an enemy. Muslims hate Israelis. Muslims hate everyone that isn’t Muslim. All in generic terms. There are those in each situation that try and break the walls of fear and perception. The minority. This has always been true throught human history and we are no closer to any solution than was true 4000 years ago. There are just more of us to contribute to the problem. One thing is absolutely true – I COME TO THE FUNNIES TO ESCAPE THIS DAILY CRAP! NOT TO HAVE IT POUNDED ON ME AGAIN. If there is no where to turn, even for a moment, to just laugh, then why come at all? Time to find another comic to replace this one.

I’ll bet that you have not been on the border. Ask those property owners who live along the border about walls.
These folks cannot safely go outside without carrying firearms to protect themselves. Their property is damaged and items stolen by the ILLEGAL immigrants.
Put up a REAL HIGH wall with lots of electricity running through it. That would slow down the ILLEGAL activities.

From the comments here, it’s clear Conservatives have no understanding of what a metaphor is, and are incapable of introspection.
So it was foolish of me to think that they might be capable of empathy, or understand the rise of fascism or the U.S. Constitution, or have the capacity to see beyond their own wants and fears and feelings.
I apologize, and will try to appropriately dumb-down things for them in the future.

@OldTexan75Actually, the war between China and Britain was over China trying to limit/eliminate imports of opium grown on British plantations India. China saw it was causing a huge drug problem with its people. Britain, on the other hand, wanted to force China to accept the opium sales, as it otherwise had a huge trade deficit due to the high demand for Chinese silk and porcelains in Europe.

Much harder in today’s world to build a wall. Physical walls stop the body. The flow of data and ideas needs to be blocked also or people (gasp) might learn the truth about their own leaders and other people and find out things aren’t what they’ve been told.

Sigh! This about the political division in the country; democrats vs republicans. The problem is he used only Trump. The division has been there long before Trump, democrats are extreme left, republicans extreme right; we’ll never get along politically until the parties are disassembled. The problem is people in general don’t view the independent parties as real solutions and would rather vote for a lame person in “their” party than a lame person from the other party.Wiley, potentially a good comic but lame because you only used one party (but then you fall into my above statement and are lame). Would have been much better showing two eggs on walls, one as you did, the other a witch with a rain storm ready to hit. Ah well Wiley, maybe you’ll someday become true and hit both parties for thei failures

“Longed for a time when only white men had rights.” Straw man argument. If you really think that any of the candidates long for such a time or that such a time ever even existed in the United States, back it up with some facts.
The truth is, all of the candidates are about taking rights away. All of them support some sort of limits on the First Amendment. Some want to enslave you more by seizing more of your hard-earned earnings and giving them to people who they think deserve them more than you do. Others want to limit your freedom to travel.
No candidate supports basic freedoms.

There are literal walls and there are metaphorical walls. The enlightened mind seeks to abolish the latter. The practical mind recognizes the need for the former. A country has an obligation to secure its borders. Look no further than the chaos in Europe to gain an appreciation of that.

A good citizen obeys the law, pays taxes, speaks the language of commerce, minds their own business and protects to the best of their ability those citizens placed in peril by those who do none of those things. Pay your dues then criticize. Black lives do NOT matter to, they matter TOO (also). Only 13% identify themselves as black in this nation. The Jew was enslaved 400 years in Egypt, Rome enslaved their conquered for centuries longer. Some of my people were rubbed out of existence by invaders. So 250 years as slaves does not entitle any one group any extra rights, especially after 50 years of unprecedented special treatment meant to equalize the effects of slavery. Life’s a bitch and then you die: there are no safe zones on this earth. History continually repeats itself so don’t get run over by it while walking and texting. Wake up!!

a rather delightful comic … which of course attracts attackers and defenders, erecting “walls” spontaneously …
If “walls” had a shred of credibility as viable defenses, we would see thousands of examples in the natural world, as a great many critters are territorial.
But ants do not build walls, nor bees, nor wasps, spiders, crows, bears, lions, tigers, monkeys, or snakes … only humans are foolish enough to build walls to hide behind.
The Repooblican party has largely made this mess, by targeting extremist groups who will support anyone who backs their cause, and so we see a patchwork of my-way-or-the-highway planks comprising their party platform, with Democraps watching their opposite numbers build insane jenga towers with a great many planks that will not bear the weight of scrutiny … they make a little noise, but do nothing to counter their fellow psychopaths’ strategies, until their opponents are too deeply entrenched to regroup, and then they counter with walls of their own, matching fear for fear the creaky towers of the Repooblicans.
Why do they do this? Because they think that by toppling the Republican towers of paranoia at the last moment, they can slide past almost anything, rather than have a buffoon who cannot shout two sentences sequentially that do not contradict each other, or are clearly representative of ignorant, mindless insanity, or his primary opponent, who would effortlessly slide into place as a card-carrying member of ISIS, where those who do not immediately fall in line with his own brand of bigotry are beheaded.
The Democrats LOVE opposing Trump and Cruz, and want them as far out in front in the Republican primary as possible. The Dems feel that with an opponent like either of the leading Republican candidates, they don’t really require much of a platform, and can run campaigns that are just as directionless as those of the Repooblicans (but a few decibels quieter, and not nearly so threatening). The Republicans will supply all the fear needed to bring billions pouring in via PACs.
Oh, for the days of old, where Republican meant a fiscal conservative, who supplied the “because the funds are not present” argument to the Democraps “let’s do this …” (there has not been a Republican President or Congress in the past half-century that balanced spending with matching taxation).
But those days are long gone (if they ever existed at all). All we have today are “walls”.
constantnormal over 8 years ago
Oh, one observation on the efficacy of “walls” … walls did not keep El Chapo contained … he merely had a tunnel dug to his cell. No walls will stop the drug traffickers from bringing drugs into the US (in exchange for guns and money), they use tunnels that we cannot detect, because they are sufficiently deep.So much for walls.
