My vote is for daylight savings time. I like having more light in the evening. But I don’t have to reset Stongehenge every time.

These Brits, i tell ya!! They have been a royal pain in the tushie for a long long long time.

For what it’s worth, the EU voted to discontinue their version of DST (called “Summer Time). Not known is which countries are going to adopt year round Summer Time or year round Winter Time. Also not known is whether any countries will decide to continue changing their clocks – though that seems unlikely since the point of the vote in Brussels was a rebellion against the twice a year clock change.

Their dates for time change were the same as ours prior to Bush. Their change (would have been) 28 March (last weekend in March and last weekend in October).

I never fell back. I can’t stand standard time.

Utterly insane. There is NOTHING good that comes of it, and there are always people who suffer, maybe even die…

Next to the Colorado Center for the Blind, Littleton, suburb of Denver, is a sundial that adjusts for Daylight Saving Time.

It’s a round disk, pitched at about a 30 degree angle to the ground, with a sundial on each side. In summer, the sun is higher and illuminates the top sundial. In winter, the sun is lower and illuminates the bottom sundial. The two sundials are calibrated, you guessed it, to be one hour different.

DST as a concept does not makes sense. You are not losing or gaining an hour, it is all the same time.

Thankfully it does not exist where I live.

The longest day here in Edmonton is 17 full hours of sunlight. The shortest day is 7 1/2 hours. And yet some people figured we needed to save daylight in the summer. I like the long summer days and I really dislike the fact that it gets dark at 4:30 in winter.

The worst part for me isn’t the setting of the clocks or even the delusion that it does any good. The worst part is the two weeks of disrupted sleep that always accompanies the time change — at either end. NOT worth it!

In the overall picture, the quality of our life could be judged by the way we handled the discontuities in our life.

The clock on my new car is permanently set to DST. I would need a smart phone and a special app to reset it. (!!) How is this an improvement?

I really like Stonehenge, but it’s not a sundial. Still, a very cool strip today.

At least moving the clocks forward is easier for me. I have several clocks that need manual setting. Two are analog old fashioned ones.

This is the third or fourth Stonehenge joke I’ve seen in the last 24 hours.

I always liked DST. More daylight after work. Now in retirement it doesn’t matter.

But, the shadows don’t change, just what we call the “time.”

At least they were smart enough to abandon it…we are still stuck with it.

My understanding is that Benjamin Franklin came up with the idea of ‘Daylight-Saving Time’ as a joke, that it was regarded as such for over a century, and that some moron with more influence than brains decided it was a good idea along about World War One.

Still one of the funniest comics concerning our semi-annual irritation. And who can say for sure it did not begin at Stonehenge and that we were just a lot of centuries catching up? H-m-m-m-m?

It’s a mystery that a $54,000 car comes with a clock that: A. can’t keep time as well as a $3 watch and B. doesn’t do DST.

Some Senator is starting a bill to keep saving time permanently.

But Nixion tried this during the oil shortage in the 70’s. School kids were getting hit by cars because it was too dark in the Winter for the morning pick up.

I too want to stop the time change, but stay on standard time.

Thanks for reminder of what a stupid idea this daylight saving time stuff is. If only we had a President who could pull this painful sliver out of the international paw we would have hero for all “time”.

I lived in Arizona for almost 25 years and we never messed with that DST nonsense ( except on the Navajo Reservation ). I’ve been residing in Ecuador for the past 9 years, where again, we sensibly leave time alone.

The period in between, was 15 years spent in Florida – of course, they had to go on DST! … Well, it was Florida, so what would you expect?

At least they’ve only got one clock to reset.

Neither Arizona nor Hawaii do DST. Reminder that if you have a Zoom meeting with someone from those states.

Would we need a 60-vote majority in the Senate to just get rid of DST?

In the 1950’s, the USSR, with 12 zones, floated the idea of putting the whole planet on GMT. Local schools and businesses would set hours according to available daylight and customs. Brilliant.

two points….. since stonehenge is on the ground,and not hanging like a clock, wouldn’t they move to the RIGHT to move it one hour forward?…… And….. as a high school baseball coach in the north-coast area of the US of A we love daylight time ’cause we can play later into the afternoon without running out of light…..

But, I thought DST occurred in the U.S. in the 20th Century. Now, I’m really confused.

No, this is a reason to abandon Daylight Savings.

They’re talking about making DLST all year round. I say just abandon it entirely and keep standard time all year round.

Time changed early this year. I didn’t know it changed until I got on my computer.

It took an industrial revolution to make playing with the clock worthwhile. Have you ever noticed it’s guys who wear suits and don’t have to work until 10:00 am that pass these crazy laws. Move it forward, move it back, I don’t care: just leave it alone. It’s a horrible adjustment to body rhythms imposed on early risers twice yearly.

There was an old Indian tale that said “only a white man would cut one foot off the end of his blanket and sew it onto the other end and think he had a longer blanket”

There was a time (heh) when every little burg in America kept its own time, based on when the sun came up there. Drove the railroads nuts, because they could never figure out how to print their schedules so that everybody could understand them. That was the motive for standardizing on 24 (more or less) world-wide time zones in the first place.

Now it’s time to take the next step and standardize on Universal Time (UT) all around the world (like all the civilizations that the Enterprise ever visited on Star Trek). So what if the sun comes up at 17:00 (= 5:00 PM) where you live? Open for business at 18:00. And if, several months later, the sun is coming up at 16:00 instead, just tell everybody your store hours are changing to 17:00 for the duration of the summer. Stores are doing this all the time anyway, with holiday-shopping hours and the like, and they don’t feel compelled to make everybody else around them change their watches every time they do it.

I had trouble setting one of my clocks forward last night. Does anyone know how to set an hourglass ahead an hour?

June 20th is the Summner Solstice, THAT’S when they should do any adjusting, and again in Dec. Silly Druids.

Left or Right depends on whether you are standing in the Center looking Out or on the Rim looking In.

Daylight Saving Time or Standard Time, makes little difference to me. Chances are that I’ll still be late. (As demonstrated by posting this about 5pm CDT.)

Ah yes, daylight saving time, or as I refer to it… Daylight STUPID Time.

If someone wants an extra hour of daylight in the afternoon then they can get up an hour earlier and leave the rest of us alone.

There’s a reason it’s called STANDARD Time, that is the time we NEED to standardize on!

It took me less than a minute to change all my indoor clocks today (except the car). I don’t get the complaint and I love the extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day.

Just to be a nice guy and let folks know (so people don’t worry about me), I will be off the boards for about a week or so. I’m going on vacation and I will not be connected to the Web.
