I started to comment, then decided to look up the definition of ‘weird’. A very complex array of meanings, depends a lot on what is being described. But, regardless, if “we’re all weird” is true, then we’re all alike. And if we’re all alike, we can’t be weird. How weird is that?

My Dad loved his accordion. He practiced quite a lot when I was a kid. It was a high end instrument. Thank gawd he wasn’t a fan of polkas. We had a large house , so he could practice out of earshot.

Hey, if we’re all weirdos, that’s the norm. A good boyhood friend (RIP) grew up on a farm, and when we visited, he would holler “Rastus” and out would come-a-running a jackass a hee-hawing at the top of his lungs. That was the ’50s before the name became verboten and the related book burning began.

When I was maybe 7 or 8, I very proudly told my grandmother one day after school, “I’m weird!”

Taken aback, she replied, “Oh, no, dear, you’re not weird – you’re a normal little girl.”

I screwed my face up and retorted, “No I’m not! I’m weird! Why in the world would I want to be ‘normal’?”

Many decades later, I’m still proud to be weird. One of the freaks and geeks, and I’d not have it any other way.
