Ah. Looks like it’s gonna be “Torture Gunther Week,” this week.
The “good” news is, there WON’T be any room for Gunther’s accursed sewing machine in this tool shed, er I mean “Guest House.”
Hopefully this will be the catalyst for Gunther to move out on his own, in his OWN place. ONE NOT shared by Les, Knute, Hair or any other male. I guess it would be too much to ask for Gunther to move into house shared by nubile young females.
Who am I’m I kidding? With Gunther’s luck, he’d end in a boarding house run by Ann Eiffel…..
Incestuous. Why not just put all the characters in one strip at the same time? Oh, wait a minute… If I were either Les or Gunther I’d leave the country..,
People always whine about the arc changes, but then they whine about why arcs are not finished. They don’t understand that numerous arcs are always percolating in Luannverse, and this was a recent one, following the whole development of Al proposing to Irma, after which Irma got clearance from her son; the whole idea that Les is going to live in the same house with Gunther, while he is sorting out, successfully, it would seem the damage caused by his criminally negligent mom, and the way the arc was left. Now the arc gets picked up again. So many linear thinkers here!! Now on the size of that plot? Reminds me of the OJ Simpson guest house with Kato Kaelin. All we need is a tall wood fence.
This time we were ready for the Evans’s to leave an arc – the one with Fay. That was enough for now. However we are so not done with Tiffany and Ann Eiffel. I will say that each time the Evans’s jump out of an arc, they manage to make the new one interesting. I’m ready for an unexpected plot with Tara. However we MUST return to the Tiffany/Ann story in the near future.
If you go back to the Feb 1st. strip it shows in the last panel they had plans to build the guest house, And today’s trips picks up from were that one ended.
A single wide mobile home, at 14′ × 70′ holds a family of 4 comfortably, albeit in close quarters, perhaps the stakeout is only for the foundation and electrical/plumbing/utilities plotting?
So, did we ever determine what happened to Quill? At last review, he was living in the spare room at the Berger residence. He would be impacted by these changes as well.
Yeah, no way both Les and Gunth would share a house of that size. There are tents bigger than that. And where’s the utility/plumbing hook ups, etc.? Maybe too early for those, but…
This has to be a prelude for Gunther leaving the Berger house, permanently and moving out on his own. Where and with whom, TBD…. I vote Tiff! Hopefully (as stated above), “Mrs. Fogarty” will encourage her to get out from under her father and go on her own as well. Difficult at first. She’ll either have to wait until she finishes Moony, or figure out how to pay for it on her own. But I’m sure Gunther will see her through it.
Is it just me or is Mama Berger looking slimmer lately? Is she like many brides-to-be and has an eye on a wedding dress and is determined to fit into it?
Go Comics site programmers have made some gosh-awful changes to the comments feature. We got an innocuous green check-mark in the active comment box. We bounce to the top of the page when we hit “COMMENT”. Like we forgot what the strip was all about? AND the *@COMMENTER*s are gone unless we type themselves. Also, I’ve noticed that when we read comments that are directed to us they aren’t always removed from the comment count alert.
Looks like the Luann-Fay arc served its purpose. Probably to 1) cool down the heavy Tiff/father-Ann-Gunther-Les mash-up, 2) get Luann back into her own signature strip somehow (I don’t think the crew know what the “next big emo thing” is for Luann yet), and 3) segue into the wedding/living arrangement cliffhanger from a month or more ago.
I notice Gunther is being included first in the living arrangement lead-in without Les. Maybe we’ll see more of him. Frankly, I’m burned out on Les and his character changes right now.
This should be an interesting arc. It also appears Gunther will be a focus, so I hope he keeps his “grumpy” responses to a minimum. He can (and perhaps shall) express displeasure about the guest house… but I hope it is not in the “belligerent” style he has had occasionally over the time he has been in college.
Other comments:
1) The perspective of the last panel makes it look like the guest house will be as many suggest…. very small, almost tool-shed proportions. But, I anticipate this is really just an artifact of the drawing style. I would anticipate that Al would build something that would add value to the Berger homestead so it will likely be a guest house with two small bedrooms and and open concept big room for the living room, kitchen, etc.
2) Another possibility is that this is being built as one of the faddish “tiny homes”. But, I hope this is not the case. It seems unlikely as there is an apparent “ground breaking” going on…. and most “tiny homes” are basically trailered around.
2 (addendum)) “Tiny Homes” are in my opinion, rather silly. They are basically hand built campers and as such, do not, IMO offer much in the way of real living quality beyond what a camper would provide… at a higher cost. And, they seem to all have the “composting toilet” option… which in my manner of thinking is really unpleasant. “Tiny Homes” are in the neighborhood of 4OO square feet or less usually, and basically you end up LIVING in a “room” that houses a perpetual human litter box. Again, just my opinion…. but “Tiny Homes” seem to me to be utterly unpleasant.
3) I am hoping that we get to learn a lot more about Al and Irma this week!
Yeah… Mordy… are you feeling adequately caffeinated?!?!? Did you start off the bat with a powerful dark roast or ease yourself back into the game with something a bit tamer? :)
think for a moment about ALL the implications of this. BEFORE Gunther and Les can occupy the “guest house”, something else must by necessity happen first: the wedding / marriage of Al Gray and Irma Berger.
Does anybody here REALLY think we’re going to see that momentous event real soon?
They should not build a guest home for the two adult males to live in. They should be moving out on their own in 3 or 4 years. Don’t discourage them from becoming independent.
Above, someone mentioned a 14’ X 70’ mobile home. That could work in that small spot IF they stand it up on end, basically a 7 story home. Just make sure to put the hitch end up to tie the guy wires to so it will not topple over.
people keep complaining about the percieved size of the guest house. You know PERCEPTION is no always accurate. How come those same COMPLAINERS have no issue with the shadow versions of the characters being almost as tall as the house behind them? DUH
Reminds me a little of the movie, Blast from the Past, an amusing enough one, if anything. The dad, Christopher Walken’s character, paces off their new back yard at the end of it, planning for a new bomb shelter.
Okay I got it! Brad and Toni finally save up enough money to move out of the Horner house into their own place, with TJ, Predictably in tow.
Gunther finally gets fed up and rents the Horner House from the DeGroots. Things finally take an upward turn when Tiffany shows up to sub-lease and move into Old Smiley’s Old Room.
And they both live happily ever after until the Berger/Gray Guest House mysteriously burns down and Irma insists that “Poor Leslie” move in with Gunther and Tiff…..,
The guest house is not necessarily square. We can’t see the whole footprint of the guesthouse because it goes off screen. The staked-off area we are seeing could be just the front door area, and the whole rest of the house is off camera.
Oh, my! That backyard plot staked out for the proposed Leslie-and-Gunther “guest house” certainly does seem awfully small. I can’t imagine either Gunther or Leslie liking this arrangement. And I wonder if Irma will go along, just because Mr. Gray says so, or if she will intervene for her dear Gunny….
Maybe Mr Gray should avoid spending money on a guest house and instead save up for a second outfit. Wearing the exact same suit every day is bound to wear it out fairly quickly. Or do you think he has a closet full of completely identical suits?
I think that it was in the Harry Potter book, Goblet of Fire, where the tents looked normal on the outside but were magically large on the inside. Of course, Snoopy has an art masterpiece or two in his dog house among other things. But, alas, the only magic in Luann’s world happens behind Tiffany’s closed doors. And, who is Mrs. Fogarty????
