Truly, Christmas would not be itself without cats making us say âWow. I cannot believe they did this AGAIN.â They are essential to Christmas, as well as pets themselves. Itâs good to have a companion this time of year.
Megan dug down into the grass, and from her âloafâ position slid her two front paws under the fence, touching Baywolfâs. She looked deeply into his eyes and began; âYou are a good boy. It breaks my heart what these Humans plan to do to you and the others. And all you want do do is make THEM happy. But I know what your Human is going to ask you to do, and I donât want you to do it.â Baywolf raised his massive head and looked like he was about to stand up. âNo, baby, no. Stay. Thatâs it. Stay. Good boy. Itâs not that I donât think you can do it. Iâve seen these fights and I know you can. I just donât think you SHOULD.â Megan then went on to describe, in detail, what the Humans were going to be expecting of Baywolf⊠and the others. She told him of the devices that the Humans used, like the block they employed to pry a winning dogâs jaws apart because he wonât let go of his opposition. And she told Baywolf what was often the fate of the âlosingâ dog. The mighty Husky looked like he was going to cry. âWhy?â he growled, âwhy?!â âThey place bets on the outcome, but mostly just for the excitementâŠâ And there was a rumble so deep and so strong that for a moment Tre-C thought thereâd been an earthquake. âFOR FUN?? THEY DO THIS FOR FUN?!â
Cats, if you want to give your People a repeat of the total tree experience though, you will need to toss off all the ornaments, pull off the light strings and garlands then pull those down the hall and finally knock the tree down! Your People will thrill to the chance to mop up the water, right the tree, discuss whether itâs level or not, fiddle with it some more then start from scratch (pun intended) redecorating it. It will give them hours of fun and holiday enjoyment.
Thatâs why you should always have some cheap ornaments too. Theyâre the sacrificial decorations for the lower half of the tree. In other news, I saw a blurb about a new artificial tree that has no branches on the lower three feet of its trunk, ostensibly to (snicker) keepâŠyourâŠcat from (giggle) climbingâŠtheâŠbwahahahahahaha! I couldnât finish that with a straight face. xD
Back when we used to put up a tree (waaay back when our first fur-kid arrived from the shelter), there was one ornament that always was picked off and left near the tree. Small, cheap brass trolly car. No other ornaments were removed, just that one, no matter where we hung it. Finally caught Dervish taking it off. We shrugged, and figured it was HIS ornament. We hung it low enough so he could get it without climbing, after that.
Good morning and happy Sunday/Bunday, orbsters and orbabies. The more I read about othersâ catsâ antics, the more I rejoice in my girl, who simply looks at the Christmas decorations, huffs a little, and then ignores it as being beneath her dignity. On the other hand, there is very little in the way of dangly things to tempt her.
Aww Buzzy Mouse spotted hiding in the stocking in panel 2! And heâs definitely missing from the stocking in the last panel as someoneâs already pointed out.. (sob)
SO GLAD my cats never went about knocking ornaments off the tree⊠:)âCourse, I get to look forward to my little children knocking ornaments off the tree⊠:P
Lupin waving from inside the tree is just so cute! Guess we were lucky when I was growing up none of our 3 cats ever bothered our trees. 1 did sleep under it but no damage was ever done. After hearing all of your stories I kinda feel deprived now.
I gave up on a Christmas tree. I got a plastic crystal looking one with changing lights inside. And only hang stockings to take a picture then they go back on the table.
Our cats love to remove the ornaments, or maybe, they just have a better decorating sense than we do.
The tree is up and the lights are around the front door but it wonât seem like Christmas time until our Son, Mac, is home. He is back East, learning classical Ballet. Since he was 7, he has has been training. He is a teenager now, and we donât think he will live at home full-time any more. His wonderful talent and hard work will take him and keep him away from home. His Mother and I could not be more proud.
There are 4 of us in the immediate family and four cats. Each cat has adopted one of us. Mittens is Macâs cat and she misses him.
It will be Christmas time when Mac is home later on in December.
For the past 21 years Iâve hung bells on the lower half of my tree. Thereâs always a young mischievous one around, either of the furred or non-furred variety! (I just listen for the tell-tail ringing of the bells)
First Christmas after Mom moved back in with her parents, bringing two boys and two seal-point toms with her, Grandpaâs blue-point discovered that the tree was his best way to get away from his âcousinsâ and into the open rafters.
I donât put out many decorations these days, just a motion-activated wreath outside the front door with cats that meow Christmas songs, and the LED candles in the windows, and a couple of other things inside that the cats wonât bother. And I decorate the pole of my yard light so the neighbors donât think Iâm a total grinch. The wreath was a gift from my late sister quite a few years ago, so I will hang it in her memory until it falls apart. Although it can be annoying since passing car headlights sometimes set it off in the middle of the night, and it does tend to scare the real kitties ; )
Reminds me of the year our cat had kittens. We lavishly decorated our tree â and we woke up to find all FIVE kittens in it! Cutest decorations ever!âŠof course, then it fell over⊠but thankfully, this was well after the era of fragile glass ornamentsâŠ
The Twelve Days of Catmas contains spoilers. Also, in the interest of brevity, I am omitting the repeating verses, or else I might still be typing on Easter.
Big Bamboo loved to sleep in the tree, Py, the Imperial slept under it. Sahara loved all things Christmas, especially the tree. Which by the time he came to live with us, was a table top sized one. Scooby Donât and TD prefer to assault the various and sundry stuffed moose that I put out for decoration that messing with the tree. Itâs not big enough to make it worth their while.
Rule #1: no breakable ornaments below 3 1/2 feet from the ground, Rule #2: no presents under the tree until Christmas Eve (spoils the naps Rule #3: do NOT run the toy train when the kittehs are napping
Last night, I accidentally stepped on my catâs tail. He now has three new bags of treats. Note to cats: Try not to hang around stairs, when people are climbing stairs, they tend not to look where theyâre going, especially if your people are like me where Iâm always reading a book.
I never had much trouble with kittens and young cats or with my son when he was a toddler but I always used unbreakable ornaments and attached the tree to a window for safe climbing should it occur.
My much-missed Ericka somehow slept in the back room while I put up my one and only Christmas tree (I then moved to a small apartment). She then came walking down the hall with a what-on-earth expression and headed straight for the tree. I said ânoâ and she turned away and from there on, absolutely refused to so much as look at the tree, let alone go near it. If I carried her past the tree, she would turn her head away so she couldnât see it. I had to demo walking around the tree with her again and again for friends who had to see it to believe it. Needless to say, I had no broken ornaments or fallen tree. Ericka was the most incredible cat, I still miss her every day.
I had a rabbit who liked hiding under the tree and chewing on some ornaments. The good part was that he couldnât climb the tree. He could, however, chew the heck out of it!
Iâm going to decorate the cat tree with feather boas and some shiny cat toys. The fur monsters should get a kick out of it, and I donât have to get frustrated by the mess.
Thanks to the person who sent me to instagram when I inquired about finding more info on the ânewâ cat the Man and Woman have taken in. Forgive me, but I just couldnât find your handle when I looked at the comments. Goldie certainly seems to have settled in, and Elvis certainly lives up to his reputation (the real Elvis, that is) of being very friendly to new cats. Oh My Cat, but I could spend hours looking at pictures of the boys, and when I get an excuse, I will.
As I was looking for kitty Christmas videos on YouTube, the following video kept turning up among the recommended videos in the side bar, so I ended up watching it.
Warning: I found the start of this video rather harrowing, but the end is worth it.
