It would not surprise me if Amazon delivered âhere.â They will do just about anything you ask them to do, and they are slowly taking over the world as a result.
Bernice calls her little exercise in superiority and arrogance a âgroup dynamics study.â If her psychology professor knows a scientific study when she sees one, she will hand the report back to Bernice and not even dignify it with a grade. This is not a âgroup study,â but a collection of personal opinions, even at the outset when she decided what labels to assign each rat in her self-defined little maze.
If Dez were conducting the same âstudy,â she might well dictate into her phone, âThe Grounded One attempts to insulate herself from the regrettable decision to invite these two, the Airhead is totally clueless what âwildernessâ might mean, and the Irritant had already alienated her peers before we even arrived.â
Perhaps THAT could be a viable âstudyâ â how two individuals can experience the same event and yet have totally opposite experiences.
So Iâm starting to think that despite earlier doubts, my prediction about not seeing them do a camping trip was correct after all. Letâs give it another day just to be sure, but it looks like I may need to prepare for my victory lap. And yet it brings me no glee to constantly and accurately predict this stripâs refusal to step outside its comfort zone and actually DO something. To quote Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park: âBoy, do I hate being right all the timeâŠâ
And that was the last time they saw Dez. Years later rumors would abound about a crazed woman screaming about nature who appear when campers least expected her. Whenever Bernice or Luann would hear those stories, they would shake their heads and say, âDez.â
Two opposite objectives, Luannâs to stay only if Amazon delivers, while Bernice to go home back to civilization. Dez is communing with nature, but I hope nature doesnât chase her back to the car trying to get away from a bear!
With apologies to Joseph Conrad, the three modern day adventurers are about to enter the real âHeart of Darkness.â Cue the music from Gilliganâs Island, please.
There is service up there. When I drove up the mountains, there was no service. I think GnK are not familiar with service coverages beyond civilizations. And Amazon takes more than a day to deliver. I am an Amazon shopper so I know. SO, where will they sleep if they order a tent from Amazon and await its delivery? In the car, I suppose. Not so bad. Iâve slept in vehicles overnight on numerous occasions, the most recent being last year July in the back of the Nissan Armada with the back seat folded flat. We were snug as bugs in our sleeping bags. We opted to sleep in our vehicle to escape the mosquitoes in Yellowstone Park.
Hmm, no Jack and no tent. If I was Luann & Company I think Iâll call it a day and head back to town if I hear banjo music, of course even if they are camping in north Georgia I am sure that area has changed significantly since James dickey wrote his epic novel and Ned Beatty got immortalized by playing the unfortunate Bobby on a weekend the boys should have stayed in the ATL and played golfâŠâŠ
I hope they stay there, sleeping in the car or on the ground, that they stay together on that patch of dirt for at least one night for looks at the stars. Dez is too happy and it would be rude to interrupt her happiness.
Youâd still have to at least spend one night in the car, Luann, even if Amazon would deliver to wherever you are (and, there are few places that they wonât) depending on how soon they would deliver, and, how much tent you can afford to buy.
And they STILL havenât noticed the naked roof. It must have been sleeping bags that blew off then since they were relying on âder boyzâ for the tent (and, one assumes, supplies).
Dez continues her berserker act, and is nowhere to be seen. Probably the combined effect of altitude and fresh air poisoning. There was no mention of her packing any saffron robes, so any meditation must be ânew age.â
Thereâs still a chance that someone else arrive and set up camp. That would be an interesting twist. Three rugged, outdoor types, just exuding pheromones. Hey! It could happen!
The turn around and go home option may still be in play here. Easiest way to segue into a different arc Monday.
Iâm gonna go with them remaining with the camping arc next week. More trials and tribulations to ensue.
Ah. So the guys, including Lovable, bumbling, but highly Overrated Jack, arenât coming. GOOD. The ladies donât need âem, anyway. Besides, Five Bucks says Jack has ditched Nil, and heâs probably somewhere cuddling with Tara. But I digress:
Itâs NOW Survival of the Feminists!
Sistahs, are DOINâ it for THEMSELVES!
They canât leave anyway. Dez has now run off to parts unknown, and SOON panic will grip Luann and Bern, as they fear that sheâs lost. Good Times!
This reminds me my next door neighbors, all very highly educated and smart people, decided, when their kids were younger (girl starting high school, boy in 4th or 5th grade) to do a camping trip. I donât know if they had fun, but when they got to the campground they realized they had forgotten to bring a tent!! They actually drove to a nearby Walmart and bought a tent. So camping adventures abound apparently.
Interesting, Bernice throws the towel in first. No attempt to âkeep her studyâ alive by suggesting different alternatives to test âher subjectsâ. Dez is acting âcrazyâ. Given her feelings about being in nature Iâm surprised sheâs in college or at least on in a moderately large area.
still have time for the car to break down and the cell signal to go dead. They will go into survival mode and Bernice will end up with the best darn study eva. Helicopters will locate them in a few weeks, alive.
They will attempt to return home but find that their car battery is dead. They will have to spend the night in their car snacking on some junk food they brought. The next day Jack and Nil will arrive with tents and supplies.
Called it yesterday! Camping trip! 2 groups in 2 cars. Car A is bringing set of supplies A, while Car B is bringing entirely different set of supplies B. Everyone needs supplies A+B to camp with a decent amount of comfort. So⊠should they SPLIT UP from the get-go? Drive separately where Car A starts and arrives (perhaps) hours before Car B? Meaning that if one car doesnât arrive due to unforeseen circumstances, the car that does arrive is short-supplied from the very start?
Why? Just why? They all live in the same town and all know each other. Meet up at the Walmart or Target or any shopping center parking lot and leave together!!!! If Jackâs truck wonât start/breaks down, all of them would know it and transfer some supplies to the girlâs car, or cancel/reschedule to trip for another day. (headdesk)
My projection for Friday night: They are in Pitsvilleâs Pizza Hut. Luann is slurping a drink, Dez is chomping a slice and Bernice has her tablet â entering âMission Aborted.â
Good luck 1) finding Dez, and 2) convincing her to abort the trip and go home. Luann, I think your question should not be â does Amazon deliver here, but instead, will Uber come and pick me up from here?
Dez has invited her uptight roomie Bernice and Berniceâs BFF Luann on a trip into Dezworld. If B&L werenât expecting something along these lines, nowâs their chance to experience it anyway. Jack and Nil were last minute invite-themselves. Theyâll be missed but they werenât essential. This was the original plan.
As sallymargaret was analyzing late yesterday, they canât have gone too far (supported by Berniceâs timestamp above). Whatever is lost or missing or with Jackâs truck (including food, batteries, ice, and some Purina Vulture Chow so as to distract their actual companions)âŠ
âŠcan, with some grousing and inconvenience, be obtained through a trip into the closest town, which is undoubtedly closer than Pitts, and still be back at the campsite before sundown.
As it says in big friendly letters on the front of the Hitchhikerâs Guide to the Galaxy, Donât Panic.
Iâd say theyâd be best to leave, and reschedule the trip, as theyâre stuff flew off the car roof as well ⊠But they have not noticed yet, obviously âŠ
And Dez will somehow convince them to âRough Itâ !!
Iâm really surprised at how many people think that thereâs something pathological about dancing for joyâeither saying that itâs crazy or drug-induced. Whatâs pathological is not being able to feel or express joy.
Luann is dressed for wilderness hiking but doesnât seem interested or mentally prepared for it. When it comes to different activities, Luann likes to âlook the partâ more than actually âtaking partâ. I agree with Code the Enforcer that Dez will not allow them to leave; she may even demonstrate outdoor camping and survival skills that we have yet to see. These three will spend the night.
No, no, no. Itâs way too early for this arc to end. I suspect (and hope) that the car wonât start and the girls will actually have to spend the night there (wherever âthereâ is). This could be more than a teaching moment, and wouldnât that be nice? Letâs see the girls actually FIGURE IT OUT! Where is water? Can they make fire? Theyâll probably sleep in the car (that will take at least a few days), and figure out how to make a package of Twinkies last for a week. This has possibilities, if the artist is willing to go there.
Such delicate little City Girls (a.k.a. Urban Chicks). Dez shoulda confiscated all cellphones when they began this venture. Now, they will never experience the Great Outdoors!
