I think Dez is out.

I’m with Dez in the final panel. (I forgot to mention yesterday “rocky mountain high, I’ve seen it raining fire in the sky” by John Denver.)

Wait a minute. ‘Selfie’ for ‘Jack’?!

I guess that “Magical Moment” was really just a passing thought.

They could probably see the stars better if they were not being blocked by all those word balloons.

Some habits are not so easily broken, Dez. Still, they tried.

That second panel Dez is out cold.

Two takeaways:

One, Luann and Jack are (going to be?) a thing, and

Two, back on the phones, G&K just had to ruin it for us, didn’t they?

Yes, Dez – it is a losing battle…

I’m ok with Bernice going into the sky map to study stars to see constellations – she’s still on the nature theme. Luann struck out.

Sigh. I go camping, the phones stay in the car. They are only accessed again when we leave. Period. End of story.

I wish them luck looking up. I have wonderful memories of seeing ‘up there’ way down in Baja Cal, far, far away from anything. It is indescribable. Many years of going down there to a ’Campo" south of San Phillipe. Have fun counting the satellites girls.

Luann went two panels with no phone!

Especially if you’re not familiar with the night sky, an app that shows the constellations isn’t a bad idea-but most of them also have a “night mode” that keeps from ruining your dark adaptation.

Luckily, summer is a time where several of the constellations are easy to recognize because of their shape: Cygnus really does look like a swan, Scorpio resembles a scorpion, and Sagittarius (just east of Scorpio) is easy to spot because part of it forms a well known asterism that looks like a teapot-complete with steam coming out thanks to the backdrop of one of the brightest spots of the Milky Way. It’s also where the physical center of the galaxy is .

My kids use some of those sky map apps. They’re not bad as a learning aid. But then, I do hate selfies, so no love for what Luann is doing! And Bern is best with her trap shut – those “observations” are getting ruly annoying. Having said that, I still love this strip. Wonder why? :D

Used to remember way back when I was a child…my dad would take my siblings and me out into the country where you could see the stars at night…now most of that land has been taken over by the suburbs and the sight of the sky is harder to see…

This is where they could use me. I’ve been an amateur astronomer most of my life. I could name all the constellations without the map!

Poor Dez, she looks soooooo tired. But this isn’t so bad. After all Luann and Bernice now understand the beauty of nature way more. Bernice is more connected with them and the fact that Luann is taking a selfie for Jack (and only for him) is so sweet♡.

Use it. Don’t abuse it.

aaaaaaannnnnnddddddd….they’re back.

I have a problem here, not once have they complained about the bugs. do they have some special bug repelant that works wonders? I would like to know because I need to get me some of that stuff. Also, at the least, one of them could have made a camp fire. I’m sure it will start getting pretty chille. unles their camp ground is only at an elevation of 3 or 4 thousand feet.

Wait! What! A dark night under a starry sky, semi-alone in the quietude and she thinks of Jack!?!? OK folks. All bets are off on the friendzone idea.

Some will say “Well Jack was supposed to show up anyway.” Yeah! Well so was Nil. She didn’t say “Selfie for Jack and Nil.” Or “the gang.” Or “Jack, Nil and Tara,” who was supposed to come but couldn’t make it.

Poor Dez! She almost had them. For a moment. Awesome night sky drawn by Greg and beautiful coloring by Sheriff. The subtle gradations of the sky rock!

This is sweet, and I don’t mind them using electronic devices to share or accentuate the experience. Our big issue as humans is not our machines, IMHO, its not forgetting our universe we are gifted with, it can elevate us to infinite lengths, or it can destroy us, if we don’t do that first. Now to be back in Luannverse (whew) selfie for Jack? Hmmmm, my theory that a budding romance might be on the Luannverse horizon is still possible. BUT, Tara did not come, even when invited. Could she being going after Jack? If Luann won’t she will. Stay tuned.

Could Jack/Tara become another Aaron/Tiffany for our intrepid gal? Stay tuned!

Dez… Dez… Luann and Bern are experiencing “nature.” Just according to their own “natures.” Nature, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder; the beholding sentient (human) being, as it were. Nature doesn’t mean anything to say, the moon. Bern is communing with ancient human beings and re-experiencing their night sky as ancient patterns. Luann’s selfie is an attempt to capture her experience of the night sky and mood and share it with another (dare I say important) human being. Dez’ “nature” prefers experiencing the feeling of being in the moment, the wonderment of it all. They’re all good.

And they find their corpses, days later, succumbed to thousands of mosquito bites and West Nile Virus, phone batteries dead and no way to call for help.

“Connected to stars rather than phones,” says the girl/woman connected this whole entire time to her phone, babbling a narration to us readers who have no idea what’s going on, and deserving of a hearty slap upside the head. Shut up, Bernie.

Really, Bernice, aren’t you just contradicting yourself by using your phone to record your blurb?

It’s strange that Dez suddenly has eye’s only when she appears half asleep.

well that lasted 5 seconds! Cell phone addiction is rough.

Luann is laying in the wilderness, looking up at the night sky, and thinking of Jack.

Is this the first time we’ve seen Dez in a less-than-pleasant mood?

I’m not bothered by Bernice’s use of her smartphone to learn more about the stars as she is watching them (unlike Dez); she’s looking to enhance her star gazing experience. Bernice is true student, someone who always wants to be learning and discovering. Luann’s phone use (here) is unrelated to her stargazing experience…. sadly; but this is Luann… it’s all about the guys.

Bernice’s idea of fun is to name the constellations. Sure fire way to ruin a date…

Wait! Their Batteries haven’t Died Yet?

And we’re back to tiresome.

Is anybody else hoping their batteries run out…SOON? Oh, and “selfie for Jack?” Hmmm…

While I know Dez would stay through the night, I have my doubts about Lou and Bernice…

“The wilderness women”… gimme a break. Yes, you guys ate stew without heating it (mostly because you didn’t seem to think that cooking materials were important enough to bring) and managed to not die yet after being outside for a few hours. You all are practically Bear Grylls now! (Eyeroll)

Center panel reminds me of the old pictures of the early astronauts reclined next to each other, wearing space suits and waiting in a cramped capsule on top of a huge rocket.
