way to go, Bernice, on making Luann not at ease

You’re heading for the wrong career field, Bernice.

For the first time that I can remember, Bernice suddenly realized mid-destruction that she’s being destructive. Could she be starting to get a clue?

And just yesterday I was saying how great it was that Jack and Tara weren’t around to talk Luann out of being a TA.

And NOW Look. Bernice is doing a bang up job, in that department. SHEESH! Again, and Again and AGAIN, I ask: “WHY are Bernice and Luann Friends??”

Just goes to show, that Bets is now currently the BEST Friend that ANYONE has in this Strip.

And “Brainy Bernice” is just mad that no Professor in her right mind has ever ask “HER” to be a Teacher’s Assistant!

So THERE!!! ;)

She’s not wrong. Been there, done that…made me wonder why anyone would choose teaching as a profession.

You better love teaching if you want to make it your profession.

Very deep and significant. However my main point is that Luann looks much better in that gray tank top tonight.

Luann is already breaking out in a rash!!

Unfortunately for Luann, if she wants to see a mean, gossipy and horrid student, she doesn’t have to look any further than Bernice. I think this is a good sign. If Luann can tolerate Bernice as a friend, what students can compare to that?

And wasn’t Luann a student in that class just last year, Bernice?

Why is Luann even friends with Bernice?

Second time within a few months, Bernice alerts Luann as to the human condition.

Well, damn… “bernie buzzkill” strikes again. sheesh…

Maybe, maybe, maybe, we might see a side of Zebo that he does not present to the public.

Who needs enemies with a friend like Bernice?

I didn’t need friends to crush my dreams. My parents did that for me.

Bernice is the world’s worst friend

You are supposed to help people deal with their complexes not give them new ones.

Its weird but I don’t think I have ever seen Bernice having a really positive attitude or being supportive to her friends oops I mean friend. Does she have a problem? Maybe its time for her to change career paths.

Looking at the bright side, at one point Bernice realized how Luann was reacting and attempted to repair (and i strongly doubt she would do the same for anyone else). Surely the first day as a TA will be terrible, but I’m sure that Luann will adapt quickly her new role and will do great things.

Luann is going to do fine as a TA. That is why Zebo picked her. Her issue is confidence not ability. Besides she has Jack and Nil, and I have a feeling, a hope, that Tara registers in the class. All back-ups.

Isn’t Zebo an art teacher? Is Luann especially talented in art? In what way will she “assist”? Hand out charcoal pencils?

I can’t stand Bernice. She’s such a Debbie Downer and she’s smug in her self-righteousness and she’s judgemental most of the time. Never been a fan.

It’s interesting. I know someone that Bernice positively reminds me of. Same attitude, same demeanor, heck, same hair. Only thirty years older.This cannot be good. It’ll be painfully amusing to watch.

Now Luann has second thoughts about this.

Okay. So I was hard on Bernice earlier, and rightfully so.

BUT, Bernice brings up an interesting point. It’s very ODD that Luann didn’t at first, consider every “downside” Bernie mentioned today, BEFORE accepting Zebo’s “job.”

Especially after Luann turned down a teaching assistant job last year, and watching her friends RIDICULE “T.A. Howie.”

Strange, indeed……..,

I’ve had a lot of questions about the characters’ college experiences since they first started this new phase of their lives (like, now in the world did Bernice become an RA in her freshman year? I can’t imagine that happening anywhere, ever).

The most recent one is this: Do community colleges use teaching assistants? I mean, I have 7 college degrees, including two from a junior college (which is what we used to call community colleges back in the stone age) and I work at a small public university, and I’ve never come across a class with a teaching assistant. Some of the science faculty here have Lab Assistants, but they just manage material and set up and assist with labs—they aren’t responsible for any actual teaching. My impression is that TAs are used in large R1 universities where the freshman classes are huge and the faculty don’t have time for mere undergraduates, but a community college? Never heard of a TA there.

I mean, the junior college I went to was pretty large, but as far as the classes were concerned, it was like 13th and 14th grade. I don’t remember having a class of any kind that was larger than 25 or so students.

Is my sample size too limited?

Does this seem familiar? Sorta remember similar conversation not that many months ago.

Bernice is right. Luann should stick with safe and boring. Why take a challenge when she can stick with snot nosed kids at a day care? Didn’t she duck out on that trip to New York with that Aussie what’s his name for exactly that same reason?

Leave it to Berniece to take all the air out of Luann’s balloon! But we all know folks like this. They mean well. They just can’t seem to see the picnic for the ants. But you can’t let them suck the joy out of every little thing. Luann needs to go talk to someone positive, like Pru, or Dez, who will get her feeling positive again.

My grandmother always said if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. Berniece should have held her peace and let her friend enjoy the moment. Nervousness, if it showed up, would be much easier to deal with when she’s actually in the classroom. And it might not have occurred at all, had Berniece not planted the seed for it.

Bernice has always been negative. I don’t know what Luann sees in her.

Well, Bernice is going to make one great therapist someday …

For me, I can understand Bernice…. she was showing concern and compassion for her friend, Luann. It unfortunately (and unintentionally) backfired horribly because it created anxiety in Luann. But, that was not Bernice’s intent.

Bernice is an analytical sort (much like Gunther). But, as her psychology/counseling aspirations suggest…. she is also very much into discussion of feelings (unlike Gunther). So feelings are what she like to discuss, while at the same time, she is also analytical in focus….. she likes to dissect out things into parts and pieces. For Bernice this seems the right way to approach things and that is what she typically is seen doing (think even of the camping behavior she exhibited).

Luann was not ready for that sort of talk at that time…. because that is not a way Luann focuses on things (as we regularly see). She is more of a feeling person who is non analytical about them.

I think Bernice will eventually be able to be an excellent counselor/therapist as she learns more the “trade” so-to-speak… her analytical skills will be very helpful… but need to be more internally thought about by her as a counselor/therapist and less externally expressed to the patient.

The fun of this week (for me, anyhow) continues!

Bernice is so toxic. Luann needs to dump her and hang out more with Tara and Jack.

So we never get to find out how Bernice got the squirrel out of her hair. Well, at least we know she didn’t have to shave her head…

I’m pretty sure Bernice just set a record for how fast she ruined someone’s enthusiasm. That was impressive even for her.

What’s the worst that can happen? She finds out that Zebo is a Fraud?

Oh, and, of course, a Letch.

Bernice looks at the dark side of things… too dark (her idea of being a realist); conversely Luann imagines everything with rose colored glasses. I think most people lean one way or the other. As long as Luann doesn’t respond by turning down the job, she’ll benefit by having her expectations set low.

Bernice just sees all the parts of it. My mother thought I was that way.

Methinks Bern is not going to be a very good counselor. She needs to take some classes on how to encourage people, not bring them down. OTOH, Bernice’s probably right in her assessment, but it will be good for Lu anyway.

I feel strangely aroused watching Luann get dressed.

Does Bernice know how to encourage her friends? She can say something besides snarky, condescending, and sarcastic comments. She needs to drop the “doom and gloom” attitude and adopt “you can do it, i know you can.”

Oh-Oh Happy path gone, reality sets in, time to bail quickly before it’s too late.

I’d rather see Luann interacting with Dez and/or Pru instead of Bernice. Friends do outgrow each other, and it sounds like this friendship needs to end. Bernice needs to go the way Delta did – someplace else and hardly in the strip any more. Friends should be supportive… what I’ve seen from Bernice in recent years doesn’t come close. A wet paper towel has better support..

Good ol’ Bernie! We can always count on her to bolster Luann’s self-confidence (and, goodness knows, it needs boosting)!
