This is, I believe, Goldie’s best possible response to that bombshell. What a strong little soul she is! Popped up her collar (it’s very Sherlock, that gesture – I recognize it even in a comic strip frame!) and resolved to move on.
Once again, panel 3 is a winner. She’s visibly making an effort. Stiff upper lip – and adorable single fang!
It’s the old you’re gonna get more food from me now look. Sadly, we bears never get that look. We gotta steal it everytime. Okay, folks, quietly hand me over all your food and picanic baskets now.
It’s the look of LOVE! She wants to shower you with love and ear scritches and chin rubs and marvelous caresses and food and friendship that will never die, and you’ll never be alone again, Goldie!! If only I could have such a cat as you, I’d be the happiest person on earth. :-)
Crying for happy and stopping to wipe my eyes dry.. thank you, Georgia for such a lovely story on how Goldie came to you! I love all these critters so much! About as much as I love our 2 cats and 2 dogs :)
There are plenty of mysteries left to solve. What has happened to the automaton bird? Is the Mailman a myth or a menace? What are dogs for? How doomed are we?
It’s the look of, you have found a furever home and a house full of love! Oh no! That dang emotion water has come back to my eyes! Excuse me…sniff…I have to go get my paper, emotional water, mop…
Why hasn’t Elvis appeared to check up on Beatrix? I can’t believe he would miss an opportunity to sniff her nose and make sure she’s okay after her ghillie suit escapade.
Beautiful photo of the real Goldie over at BCN website with commentary from Georgia: "I know today was a bit of a heartbreaker-strip! Hang in there! Here’s a photo of Goldie tonight, safe and sound and happily ruling her tiny carpeted throne. She is well loved in this home, by People and Cats alike. (Even Lupin, almost…)
Also: Thank you, Beatrix! I’m grateful to write for you; thanks for lending your sass and your voice to this story."
OT: I have come to enjoy the interaction of this comments section just as much as the strip itself, and today is a great example of why. I know that I will come in here and find Bear scrounging for picnic baskets, Robin foretelling doom, KK giving Weird Al a run for his money, and even occasional assurances that mine is not the only computer to be hit with the blurry-screen virus … and, if needed, I can find head boops and purrs of support for the things I have going on IRL.
I’m going to be away for most of next week as we are traveling to visit my SIL for Thanksgiving (partly because my niece is horribly spoiled; she couldn’t see us while I was up there to do the Shawshank race, so we are going back). So, since today is nonetheless a Thursday in November, I wanted to take a minute to say how thankful I am for all of you. :-)
I love Goldie’s positive outlook. When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade. Look for the silver lining in every situation. There are always mysteries to solve.
So, the raccoons weren’t the true bad guys, Goldie’s former owners were. Now let’s see how long Lupin can hold that scowl on his face when Goldie arrives.
Yes, she needs to be checked out by the V.E.T., but probably, like human colds, there’s nothing much to be done except warmth, rest and fluids – and cuddling, of course. I’m sure she’ll go along with that. Oh, and raising her food dish a bit. It’s easier for a cat to eat when her nose is stopped up.
Hopefully to NOT spoil the moment, but did not the (Random Food) Woman mention some time ago about having to get ‘special permission’ from the landlord to take in a THIRD cat??!!
The ‘Boys’ need to remain and certainly WILL, but how can the People take in (and I HOPE so) Goldie??!!
Also, how does Burt keep coming in?! Pet door through the laundry room?! :)
This has been such a tough strip. I’m glad it’s coming to it’s happy conclusion. I keep thinking of our Albert, wandering the streets, until he found his Man. When Albert walked up to him that night, he though “This is someone’s cat.” It took a week of searching to realize that someone was him.
Now is the time for Bea and Tommy to sit Goldie down give her the run down on the reporters on the inside. In my head it goes like this:
Puck, he has three legs, he is the best climber (but does not compete), he has a big heart and will embrace you as his family. He will help you settle in and get to know the ropes of the apartment (except maybe on wet food Wednesday, when has to put all his energy into playing it cool).
Elvis, well he has been known to pouf when seeing cats he does not know, but once he gets to know you, you will be accepted, perhaps there will even be some grooming. Just don’t touch his tail, he will bite everyone in the room. He is particular about reporting and is not always happy with hijinx.
Lupin, the consummate cat of adventure, also known as a tiny horse, likes to slurp threaded needles, and he is deaf, but can read whiskers well. Oh, yes, umm, he currently has the pip with you because you “borrowed” and then lost his tape recorder where he collects his jingles for made up kibble brands. Don’t worry he loves adventure.
Double SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE! On the Twitter feed, Georgia raised the POTENTIAL of a 2020 calendar on Zazzle (those of you on Twitter, please offer encouragement!) and the 3rd BCN book “Take It Away, Tommy” is available for pre-order and it includes the 2015 Halloween special!!!!!!! The introduction of everybody’s favorite ghost cat! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE! SQUEEEEEEEEEE!

Let’s Celebrate Goldie home like Kenny Loggins
Home for a long-lost cat
I am learning to love each and every face
Come one and give me some Random Food
And show me love all over the place!
…….
It’s time I found myself
Totally surrounded with awesome kitties!
Whoa, new friends,
…….
Please celebrate me home!
Give me some kibble
Please celebrate me home!
Give me one more skritch
That will make me want to purr,
And I now realize
Though I thought I was all alone,
You all purred me home!
