Assuming Ann’s pregnancy is real (and as many have pointed out, there’s plenty of reason to be skeptical about that), these two have been pretty flip when discussing the fate of an innocent child. Maybe next, they’ll arrange to have Ann “accidentally” take a tumble down a flight of stairs.
I can’t think of any plan that will overcome the baby part of this setup. The direction they are heading is to prevent the marriage, and Leslie does seem to realize that if Tom is not involved in raising his child, they can’t leave the child in the care of Ann Eiffel.
I just realized that Tom Farrell never married Tiffany’s mother. Tiffany’s mother probably thought that he would marry her.She left Tiffany with her Dad and vanished.
Maybe Tom wants the baby and Tiffany will have two choices – free babysitter for her evil stepmother or move on with her life and make her own way in the world.
I still think Ann planted the ultrasound specifically for Tiffany to find. Taping it out of the way, behind a photo on the dresser, doesn’t make sense if the pregnancy is to share with Tom. It makes perfect sense, though, for Tiffany to find yet can’t say anything because it shows she was snooping.
I think he’d like to be able to raise it and give it a loving parent…which he sure didn’t get. Just look back at how he was with the kittens. He was all bluster but loves the little furballs.
If Tom Farrell and Ann Eiffel left on a long extended trip , Tiffany will not be able to intervene in Daddy’s private life. Tiffany’s goal is to get back her “old life” .
These two need to get over their “daddy” and “mommy” issues and move on with their lives.. Tiffany has, or is close to flunking out of college and Les can aspire to being more than a minimum wage dishwasher. Their fixation on Tom and Anne isn’t helping either of them. Oh, and that “you, me, Gunther, and baby makes four” is totally sick. At least Tiffany isn’t that dysfunctional (yet), but Les is in need of some SERIOUS counseling.
In Panel # 1 and Panel #2, Tiffany is in a state of trepidation and then Tiffany shifts into a state of calmness in Panel #3 and kills off the idea of three young adults raising a child. [Two more strips, Friday and Saturday]
At least, our consideration here is not towards Les and Tiff’s baby. Perhaps in the future. Tiff did bare her shoulder and was hinting for Les to make a move on her when he picked up the list of people that got shammed with the fake lingerie.
So much over thinking here, so much being just totally over looked. For more than two years we have been witnessing the changes and growth of the now young adults in this strip. Les has slowly, but steadily, been becoming a better person. Being around others that are decent people is helping him become the one. Hearing that his mom is pregnant his first thought was a happy one, he was going to have a brother. His next thought is that his brother can’t be left to the life of misery he had to endure at hands of his mother. Then without any hesitation he lets it be known that he will be there for his new brother. Realizing he will need help, he immediately turns to the the unborn baby’s sister to be a part of raising their brother. The real kicker here is Gunther. Les is showing us that he considers Mr & Mrs Gray, and Gunther to be family. That Gunther is his brother, and that his family would be there for him to help. For Les to be getting to this place of feeling that he belongs, and can trust, is a huge step from where his mother led him.
Ohhh, so NOW you want to involve Gunther, huh Les? “Let Gunther do the dirty work of raising the kid, while YOU and Tiffany take the credit! And just at the moment Gunny bonds with the Kid, you’ll snatch it back!” What is this? “Horton Hatches the egg: The next generation?”
The time to have “involved” Gunther in your little bone-headed nefarious plan, was back in 2018, during the lingerie takedown. At least Gunther would have had sense enough to get law enforcement involved back then. And if THAT had happened, just about ALL of Tiffany’s “problems” would have been over with, years ago. But Noooooooo! Those two, had to be all “secret squirrel” about the whole lingerie take-down deal, leaving Gun the dark.
Well, the Good news is, it seems like the old Les is back, and he’s no pod person. That means We can all safely go to sleep tonight. And I don’t have to “like” him anymore. ;)
Actually, Les’s plan is good♡. But I wonder if Tiffany’s childhood was exactly like what they imagine for the child. Her father lived his life and she with the nannies. I fear that her life has been like this and the idea that someone else has the same fate makes her sad.
Suspecting a surprise ending to this arc. Well, eventually. Lotta speculation (and plotting) going on here. Still not completely sure it’s Ann’s sonogram, which would be the element of surprise.
Maybe this has been mentioned before, I haven’t seen all the posts lately, but has any body thought that Tiff’s dad might have had himself “fixed” after she was born and Ann doesn’t know it? Leading to the big reveal that Ann really is the big POS that she appears to be? Now THERE’s an arc for ya!
Look guys, this arc has been stretched to the limit. It will go nowhere because we all know Greg never finishes anything. Monday will be a new arc…as always.
I can’t help but wonder other ways this could spectacularly backfire For example, where is Tiff’s mom? No mention of her, I can recall and I’ve been reading for years… apparently she’s been out of the picture for quite a while and unless it was a dramatic death, it looks like she was pretty easily cleared out of the picture. It wouldn’t be hard to see Tom getting tired of Ann or seeing it as an attempt to trap him… he could easily sue for sole custody and leave her for nothing (in most states you’ve got to be married for several years before can request support) Then it would be nothing for him to raise the child just like tiff… Latch-key kid handled by various “staff”.
I mean let’s face it, he’s either oblivious or doesn’t care how his mistress his treating his daughter. it’s only a matter of time before he leaves her for something better and I doubt spawning another child is going to affect him too much.
I can’t count how many times Tiffany has screwed up. The last t8me she lied to her friends went to the party and flunked her classes. Now she has assumed this photo is of the fetus in Ann’s belly. She will never grow up. She constantly makes dumb decisions
That was actually sweet of Leslie to intend to raise the baby. It shows concern and kindness. It isn’t especially smart, but expending energy on other people isn’t smart, just needed unless we want everything to collapse.
It is also sweet that he believes Gunther would be good for helping and be willing to help. Awwwww.
My beloved Tiffany disapproves since she has not quite gotten that responsible.
I hope Ann tells Tom she’s pregnant and he says she must be cheating because he had a vasectomy. Then she tries to backpedal, that she wasn’t really pregnant. And he dumps her. But I also wish he’d see how Ann treats his daughter and others. That’s what shows her character, not how she treats him.
Les is being facetious for the most part but he clearly does care about the baby. Maybe he should quit the cafe and go work at the child care place. As for Tiffany, maybe it’s time to talk to the family attorney.
GnK are indicating that the Les character really wants Ann carry the purported child to term making him a “big brother.”
Once again GnK want us to believe that 1) Leslie Knox has been transformed into a new character capable of truly caring for someone other than himself and, 2) Leslie and tiffany are inexorably being drawn into a close relationship; bro/sis or BF/GF.
Will other characters be invited/dawn into this, now two-character, cabal? Are Tiff’s and Les’ goals even the same??
Hopefully the remainder of this week will give further clues to where GnK are going. But don’t bet on it.
Les is spelling out an actual process and set of consequences which makes Tiff’s question seem ridiculous. No, there isn’t much that anyone can do to stop two people from procreating and marrying. Tiff could buy an abortion pill and slip it into Ann’s favorite food, which could be criminal.
I’m gonna say Les has made more progress toward becoming a caring human being than Tiff has, so far. Raising and taking care of a pet is step 1, which can lead to raising and / or taking care of a child (or at least thinking about it) which would be step 2. Neither of these is anything that has crossed Tiff’s mind.
I think it’s a fake pregnancy (sonogram is an old one of Les that she had tucked away). She will fake the pregnancy to get married and then fake a miscarriage. I knew someone who did this. She even faked Dr appointments and never let the “Dad” go to them with her. It was the most bizzare thing I’ve ever been witness to.
The Rehabilitation of Leslie Knox: Many here express doubts about Les’ exhibiting altruistic behavior. These could be how GnK want us to see it.
It started with his being enamored with Pru at the Fuse. He exhibited purely romantic feelings for her. Much different than his crude, even salacious, interactions with Luann and/or Tiffany at the time.
Then the break with his mother happened in collusion with Tiffany and The List. Apparently that was a major milestone in his development.
Then the détente with Gunther at the Gulag, as Mordy calls it. A wild “food fight” seemed to settle many issues between the two.
Then came the dishwasher/waitress collusion at the Fuse with Les accepting a more menial job for financial consideration. This cemented his day to day interaction with tiffany and indicated that he realized that there was a cooperative “greater good” achievable than just his own desires.
Then came “Punk.” Where Les refused to return a kitten he bonded with and refused to return it to the adoption agency with the other kittens. To date, we are not totally sure that this was not a clandestine keeping in some way.
We are still in a phase of this story that feels as if a variety of psychedelics are required to attempt to understand the incredibly odd and illogical trains of “thought”:
1. "Ann’s “trapping” Tom Ferrell" – balderdash… if he contributed the gametes during copulatory effort, he “trapped” himself into needing to ethically, emotionally, and financially support this offspring. As far as his track record is concerned with regard to Tiffany, I suspect he would do a lackluster job.
2. “She’ll hire nannies…” – this should be a positive statement, not a slam as Les intends….. being raised by nannies is probably the best damn thing that could happen to the kid, given the track record of parenting skills displayed by Tom and Ann to this point.
3. “We stop your dad from marrying Ann” – and this will change the ethical, emotional, and financial constructs how? Whether or not Tom and Ann marry, if Tom is the biological father, he should and will be required to participate by how the law determines at the very least.
4. “You, me, & Gunther raise the baby…” – uh… yeah, how is that going to work? Ann’s going to give the baby to the TLG trio? Bah. And, the TLG trio… they will all suddenly become cohesive and “kum-by-ya” and live as a dynamic, vital, mini-commune for the next two decades together in harmony and love?
5. The next step of this hallucinatory ride should be tomorrow where Tiffany, Les, and Gunther decide to engage the help of TJ to develop a plan where they will convince Ann in some fashion to give the kid up for adoption to Brad and Toni with Tom and Ann’s financial contribution being the payment of perpetual daycare so it will not inconvenience Brad or Toni’s work schedules.
Les: “Well, first we stop your dad from marrying Ann.”
And just how do you propose to DO that, Mr. Knox? Kidnap Tom and hold him hostage somewhere? Crack him over the head and hope he develops amnesia? Box him up in a shipping crate (with air holes :P) and put him on a slow boat to Abu Dhabi? (that’s where Garfield is always trying to send Nermal.)
To me the biggest take from this arc is how the two characters react to this news, and surmising why and what context. Story again for me. I give kudos to those who can pick up art and graphic details, like the CDC poster yesterday, but I am a story guy. Anyway, Les is reacting, to my surmise, like I think an unloved boy, who is in a loving, nurturing universe—Luannverse—which is unlocking the sensitive loving person under all that chip on the shoulder grumpiness and bullying would. He reacts, naively, with the idea of family, with the people he feels like a family with, Gunther!!! Tiffany, and him. Family. Tiffany is worried about how this affects her place, her inheritance, her attenuated relationship with her father. He is purposely estranged from his mother, she is involuntarily estranged from her father. He also wants to stop the con he feels his mom is perpetuating, because it is wrong, she is because how it affects her. Mordy these two guys are almost like aggravating brothers now. Aggravate, but still brother in archetype if not in real.
As @Schrodinger’sDog noted earlier, it’s hard to imagine and willingly taking a chance on “sacrificing her trim body to the ravages of childbirth,“ especially since she probably assumes that “her trim body” is part of what keeps her in Tom Ferrel’s good graces and bed er mansion.
So what if the sonogram is one provided by a surrogate mother they’ve hired?
It doesn’t change anything in the long run, of course. Tom and Ann and would still have to deal with spit-ups, dirty diapers, and the general messiness of raising kids. Tom and Ann or their staff, that is.
I think Tiffany’s correct in her assessment that they should not take the baby. She still has college and her career as well as do Gunther and Les, and when you’re their ages with trying to get life started, it’s the better decision.
Besides, AnnAwful isn’t really pregnant anyway – it’s a sham and a moot point.
I still feel that it’s a fake sonogram she’s using to get Tiffany’s dad to marry her to get what she wants (she’ll then say she had miscarriage afterwards)
If we take Leslie Knox at face value (a dubious call, I grant), he is more concerned for the (alleged) baby than Tiffany is, something of a sex-rôle reversal. And he even brings Gunther into the deal (should we be suspicious of that?)!
Maybe instead we should focus on panel 2: PREVENT THIS MIS-MARRIAGE!
And the Les volunteering himself AND Gunther was a weird left turn for me. Where did that come from? When did Les and Gunther get so tight? That’s assuming a lot.

But at least Ann’s figure wouldn’t be at risk.

Doesn’t sound like a bad plan, actually.

Y’know, the baby in that ultrasound looked like it was ready to hatch, but the last we saw of Ann recently she was her usual wasp-waisted self.

Les isn’t exactly an ideas guy, eh?

I think Tiffany’s correct in her assessment that they should not take the baby. She still has college and her career as well as do Gunther and Les, and when you’re their ages with trying to get life started, it’s the better decision.
Besides, AnnAwful isn’t really pregnant anyway – it’s a sham and a moot point.

More like Ann will want to add nanny duties to Tiffany’s housekeeping duties. And Tom will be all for it. Why pay extra to hire a nanny?

I still feel that it’s a fake sonogram she’s using to get Tiffany’s dad to marry her to get what she wants (she’ll then say she had miscarriage afterwards)

I don’t think there will be a baby in Ann and Tom’s life. Can you imagine how hard it would be to baby-proof that huge mansion?

Both of them have an empathy problem. Might as well start now.
