My goodness – I thought this was a family comic.

Nice finish to this arc. No resentment in the air. Good gift; good times.

Frame 2 – Luann has a slight smile – so I guess not jealous.

In the third panel, Bernie looks like she just swallowed a live fish.

Personally, I think she’s quite smitten with Jack… (A Jack attack?)

I guess the joke was supposed to be, as of yesterday, we thought the fish was called Jack; in the final panel today, we learn that they did stick with Jack’s original name of Monstro.

Meanwhile (imagine Stephen Colbert’s intro to that segment),

It looks like we’re off to something else next week. This does not look like a cliffhanger, at least of anything imminent, for now at least.

It seems like that tank is too small. But that’s why I’m no good with pets: I feel like I wouldn’t provide for them properly so I don’t get one at all.

Bern is impressed by the gentlemen, love how she flips to Monstro after that “knowing” look from Luann. Okay I wonder how long it will take for someone to get on the board with a joke about what Luann said in panel 2? Good for Bern though, the endorphins are really putting her in a good mood!

Throughout this arc I’ve been loving the expressions the artist gives to Bernice—it’s like there’s been a breakthrough or something, but it’s been so eloquent!

So, as Bernice’s delicate little heart goes into A-Fib, she sits down, takes a sip of water, and smiles long past her bedtime.

Is anyone else struggling to remember the last time a male gave a sincere compliment to Bernice? Much less a good looking Alpha male like Jack? With a thoughtful gift? I think it is easily understandable why Bernice might be a little giddy at present.

I recall how once I came across a cashier at my local grocery store. I had always thought she was pretty, but this time she had her hair down and I thought it hugely added to her beauty. I foolishly said something about how I thought her new hair style improved her looks. Seeing her bewildered and questioning look, I panicked and babbled something along the lines of how I thought she always looked nice, but with her hair down like this, Wow! She turned her astonished countenance away from me and one of the deepest blushes I’ve ever seen spread across her face. By now I’m wishing I could just drop through the floor, so I snatched up my groceries, dropped enough cash on the counter to pay with money to spare and fled the store. It was years before I went back.

The arc is not over, Bernice might not have a car, and needs to get one.

Jack establish a reason to visit Bernice & Monstro instead of just Luann & Puddles.

Try “Goldie”, like the millions of goldfish that came before it.

I hope this puts to rest the opinion that Jack is a jock jerk.

In Frame 3, for that one moment of “Opps, what was I really saying here?”. Luann, “Ohhhh, lets see you get out of this one….”, but then in Frame 4, is coverup and recovery time. ", nice bail out from that scary unknown territory for Bernice.

Panel 3 expressions are beautiful! Luann looks at Bernice with an awesome “BUSTED” smile and Bernice has a huge “FREUDIAN SLUR!!!” reaction. Can’t wait to see how this situation will evolve♡.

Hmm.

Now let Me see if I got this right, because I’m seeing an interesting pattern forming here.

After years of virtually IGNORING each other, Jack comes along one day at the dog park, without his dog. Sits down next to Bernice. Makes an enlightening observation about the care and training of pets, in which an impressed Bernice later quotes. He Discovers a “need” in Bernice’s life. He Later FILLS that need with a thoughtful gift, plus plays Bernice a sincere compliment that goes straight to her heart, which has now thawed and grown three sizes too big. And PRESTO!! Jack will now be the one thing on Bernice’s mind for the next couple of years.

So THAT’S key to success with the opposite sex in the VAST Luanniverse: Listening to her intently, making an intelligent thoughtful observations afterward, paying her a heartfelt, sincere compliment, and fulfilling her “need“ and at the same time tugging at her heart strings with an inexpensive but VERY thoughtful gift. And BOOM, She ends up happily thinking about your “tail” 24/7. Of course it helps to have muscles bulging in every direction, but STILL.

So I guess We’ll leave this little group and let what happened simmer for a few weeks, while an amused Greg and Karen slyly gauge fan reactions here, on Facenook and the horribly broken Arcamax. But as We anxiously await the next arc, I’ll add that I REALLY think that Ox could have pulled off EVERYTHING Jack just did Bernice, but with Tiffany. Because Ox has kindness, sincerity and thoughtfulness down pat. And Ox is an underused asset in this Strip. Besides, Tiffany even happily massaged Ox’s feet once! And come on, Greg! You were once going to go there with THAT “match-up!” (A-HEM) Tiffany and Ox. Ox and Tiffany. Tiffany & Ox. ;)

I think Bernice is at the dorm because her door has a window.

I thought Bern and Luann lived at Luann’s home. Panel 1 looks like a dorm room.

It is generally accepted that Bernice is somewhat “taken” by Jack and his perceived behavior toward her. If there’s a cliffhanger in today’s strip it is whether Jack’s compliments and gift were from Bon Homme Jacques or Player Jack. Is this to be another unrequited infatuation by Bernice; as in the Piro arc? But, that’s been done! And, so has the Bernice falls hard for Zane, only to have her heart torn arc arc. And, the jealousy toward Luann over he long lost brother, Sgt. Ben York, who pen-palled Luann instead of her.

So the only thing left, if Jack and Bernice are to be a thing, is the early Jack and Luann strips. The tire change, pizza parlor, Monster Truck rally, Party rescue, heart-to-heart in the park thing.

It’s about time, no? :-)

Ha! That was good. I was wondering how it would go when she addressed or talked about “Jack, the fish”. Could have been embarrassing, but funny! So are we off to another unrelated related arc?

So this week’s vignette ends not with a bang, but a whimper. Luann and Bernice are still friends, and life goes on.

Luann definitely knows what’s going on with Bernice, and has no jealously.

This strip shows clearly the difference between Luann and Tiffany. Lu is generous and not demanding. Obvs, Tiff would be competitive and inserting herSELF front and center.

I won’t be alive to see it but at this rate, in 50 years these two will still be living together as a couple virgin old maids.

Jack and Bernice. If anything happens between them, it will be a spontaneous combustion, not a teeny-tiny little kiss. Careful of the furniture and lamps.

Question for fish people: A goldfish doesn’t need an elaborate aquarium with a pump, etc.. does it? Just a bowl of water – right?

I don’t see “Bernack” happening. He really didn’t talk to her much at all. Bernice has known Jack for a few years, and after one chat mutually snarking on Luann, she’s in love over a fish? That’s quite a stretch.

Jack’s done this several times lately – show up unexpectedly, hang around with the main characters, be friendly, and leave. Nothing more, nothing less. Will it become a running motif?

Still rather if they called it fluffy. But okay, whatever,,,,

Well now. Looks like ol’ Bernice is warm for Jack’s form. Likes the angle of his dangle. But will she follow through on these feelings and actually ask him out on a date sometime??? Stay tuned….

It looks like Bernice will be a permanent home guest at the Degroots.No more Dormitory life for Bernice for now.

No more Dormitory rooms for Tiffany. Maybe the Strip is existing the University dormitory scene.
