Trump’s an idiot, but there is a lot of that around, in both parties. The proof of that is demonstrated by the fools who don’t want to let the feelings die down. It’s not wise to keep poking a bear with a stick if that stick is all you’ve got.

“Why didn’t you do anything to prevent this?!”

“We installed sturdy metal railings and moats inside the animal pens so they cannot climb out, posted signs all over the zoo cautioning about interaction with the animals, made frequent announcements over the PA system about not climbing into the animal pens, broadcasted zoo safety in loops on the monitors installed throughout the zoo, and posted rules for zoo safety on our website and our downloadable app. How did you miss all of this?”

The less intelligent salmon swim through thousands of miles of open ocean to struggle hundreds of miles up raging white water rivers to be eaten by a bear. Homo Sapiens (“Thinking Man”) only has to hop over a small fence. “Intelligent Design” theorists, take note. /s

One of my most vivid memories of Yellowstone National Park as a 7-year old was being stuck in traffic with the bears in the tree line a little way from the road and people getting out of their cars, with cameras and kids, and walking toward them. I didn’t see anyone get hurt, but I remember thinking just how stupid that was. Years later, when my kids were 7 and 10, we were in the Black Hills watching people get out of their cars, with cameras and kids, and walking over to a herd of American bison and my son commenting that that was “soooo stupid!” Park rangers intervened—stopping one man who was trying to put his kid on the back of a bison A few years ago, in South Africa, we were traveling south and passed many, many signs that warned to stay in the car, keep windows and doors closed because of baboons. There were some traveling along the other side of the road so traffic stopped and one driver pulled over, got out, leaving his door open, and approached a mother and baby, camera already up to his eyes. What he missed taking a picture of was the other baboons who got into his car — one through the door and one through an open window in the back. They grabbed stuff and threw it out — bags of snacks, a purse or satchel, hats — and hopped back out. They were out and down the road in less than a minute and the driver and a passenger went chasing them (probably after the purse). My granddaughter’s comment was, “Now, who is the baboon?”

Do bears need Covid vaccine? Some zoos are having to give their animals shots. They should wear masks and avoid humans until this is determined.

Many (many many many) years ago, we were driving through Yellowstone when we saw a ranger parked by the side of the road lecturing a woman. She had smeared honey on her kid’s face so she could get a picture of a bear licking it off and the ranger, luckily, had driven by right after she was leading the child into the. trees.

On a field trip with one of my kids to the Baltimore (now Maryland) Zoo, we were told that their bears were living twice as long as their counterparts in the wild. (Unless of course they escaped into the city!) And also that JHU was studying them for dementia.

I’d think it would more likely be that an idiot wanting a selfie with a wild animal would do something like this. Those people cross all political, social, economic, ethnic and everything else lines just like anti-vaxxers.

    It happens.

I once saw an idiot tourist try to sit his 2 year old daughter on the back of a 10 foot Alligator so he could get a Photo.

A very Angry alligator because it had just been woken up at 2:00 AM by a space shuttle being launched.

Luckily for the Kid, a bunch of the people in the crowd who heard him say what he was planning to do beat him vigorously about the head & shoulders until he figured out that he wasn’t getting that “Perfect Photo”.

Saw this on Entitled Parents on Reddit. Tiger in zoo was snacking away on a bird that made the mistake of flying into his enclosure. Kid noticed bird entrails hanging out of tiger’s mouth and asked Mom why tiger was eating worms. Entitled Mom realizes it’s birdie innards and demands keeper do something about it. “Can’t you just take it away from him?” Yep, Entitled Mama expected a zookeeper to enter a tiger enclosure and literally take food out of a tigers mouth. Keeper declines since he doesn’t have a death wish.
