Has Luann ever kept any of her New Year’s Resolutions?!?

What dumb thing did Luann do to “blow number two”?

Oddly enough, that’s exactly the list I made when I finally, after more than two decades of screwing up, I finally learned how I can make money in the stock market. I stopped buying stocks I am not any good at, like high tech, and focus on things like turn arounds.

Bernice called that one.

Luann blew #2 the moment she read #2 to Bernice. Keeping it a secret from Bernice would have fit #1 perfectly.

Bernice should bear in mind an old axiom: “You may be my best friend, or my severest critic. Being both is totally out of the question.”

Bernice needs to get laid.

Bernice is you friend one day and the next she would stab you in the back or worse give you criticism like she did to Luann.

And somehow, these two are friends.

Yeah – But the smart things don’t know what the dumb things are until the dumb things already happened.

if Bernice changed her name to Eeyore would anyone really notice the difference?

It’s like that old template where you just plug a couple new words and phrases in and voila, generic joke

Who sterilized the room, and where are the magazines and potato chip bags, and underwear hanging out of open drawers?

Yeah, you really shouldn’t have read your resolutions to Bernice. I can’t imagine a situation where she wouldn’t use it as an excuse to put you down.

Geeze Bernice, why dont you go suck an egg.

Bernice used to be an ACTUAL good character but now it’s just like she’s a personality-free egotistical annoying character. She was a smart quirky interesting character, but now? Not really. Greg should probably just kill her off like Delta. I mean, really! She’s getting super annoying and pointless in all of the arcs.

My new year’s resolution was to not make any more resolutions.

Only real smart characters in this strip are Punk and Puddles.

Bernice is always so cheerful and encouraging… I really hope Mrs. Fogarty tells her that she would be a disaster as a counselor if her attitude doesn’t change.

Well.

She left her phone on speaker one fateful day, enabling her mother Nancy to hear a tearful conversation with Bernice, thereby making it possible for Bernice to live under the DeGroot roof free of charge where she insult Luann on a daily basis.

THAT, “Dumb” thing.

Oh, go sit on a bunch of freshly sharpened pencils, Bernice! ;-)

I love the dynamic between these two. They act more like sisters than BFFs!

Bernice can’t help but wisecrack, but actually I think Luann’s approach is a good idea. It’s a one-off, not directly related to the on-going arc though, but indirectly it might make things a.bit less cluttered..

I wish Luann would find at least one good friend and dump Bernice.

I actually agree with Bernice here..

Bernice is so sanctimonious and judgy. Lord help the first patient who goes to her for guidance or support.

Bernice can amazingly unsupportive sometimes.

I think that’s a very intelligent list.

Spend less time with Bernice. That’ll brighten your new year.

Bernice must be like that alien on the show American Dad, in that being nice for too long is physically painful and she has to express every bit of unpleasantness inside.

Its getting to be a tie on who I like least Bernice or Shannon.

I remember a relationship counselor once advising my ex-wife and I to do more of what works and less of what doesn’t work. Obviously we failed to heed his advice.

I’m thinking the only reason Bern hangs out with Luann is that Luann is an easy target for snark.

So true, Bernice. That’s one resolution she won’t have to worry about keeping. I notice Luann had to start over twice to come up with those two ideas? Tch tch tch.

With friends like Bernice, who needs enemies! Geez!

Imagine the poor guy that gets stuck with Bernice.

I just don’t like Bernice. She needs to move back into the dorm.

I’ve had enough Bernice snark for about a year now.

This is why we need Crystal back. When she snarked at Tiff, Tiff (a) usually deserved it and (b) missed it, and it was funny. One didn’t so much wonder as why Tiff remained her friend, as why Crystal bothered to be Tiff’s friend.

Now that Crystal’s gone and Tiff has become a more sympathetic character, Bernice has stepped into the primary snarking role for the entire strip. She’s done it with too much zeal and has become both one-note-predictable, and as simultaneously as likable as Frank Burns.

Can Bern EVER be supportive. Why is everything a put down.

That is really weird – in the first panel, Luann has quite a number of posters on her wall. In the middle panel, it fades to black, and by the third panel when the lights come back up, someone has stolen all her posters off the wall.

At some point part of growing up is realizing just because you grew up with someone doesn’t mean you have to stay friends with them. Especially when that person is toxic to you, i.e. – constantly belittling you and making you feel or seem less. Can we reach the part of this journey for Luann?
