as has been said, before you judge someone, walk a mile in their shoes. that way, when you do judge, hyoid will be a mile away and you will have their shoes!
I remember working in an office and noticing that every Black woman had straightened hair, every White and Asian woman had permed hair, and me, I had my hair hidden in a beret. To top it off Black women risk their health with toxic âvanishing creamâ to lighten their skin, while White women risk their health in tanning booths darkening it. Wealthy Black women will go under the knife to thin down their lips while wealthy White women get injections to plump theirs up. PEOPLE, YOUâRE ALL BEAUTIFUL! STOP HATING WHO YOU ARE!
Luannâs head is drawn too large for her body and that is what distorts and emphasizes the use of makeup. Bernice is in proportion, but she still looks like a 12 year old.
This is a variation of a gag Greg did back when Luann was 13. Back then she did not know anything about putting on make-up so the clown make-up joke was funny. Now that Luann is quoted as being 19 itâs just sad.
I suppose people forget that tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day? Projection run riot as per usual, totally missing the story in how panel three is the hilarity ensues story with art with a serious point underneath it.
Its time for this strips writer to hang it up.She has no clue about how people like these characters actually would act in real life..The writing is simply awful at this pointâŠ
More often than not, the stand-alone Sunday strips rely on caricatures that make one or more of the characters look particularly immature, inept, lazy, or buffoonish â in a way thatâs often out of sync with the ongoing story lines. I think itâs time for G&K to drop the Sunday strip and just focus on the dailies.
They still have a mall? I thought most malls these days were either closed or mostly used by mall walkers who walk past all the shuttered stores and the few shops that are still open and struggling to survive.
There are still some malls out there that are doing well but far fewer than there used to be. I donât think young people go there to hang out any more.
I guess itâs not so much the color of your skin but what you put ON it. Right, Luann? Itâs an interesting comment, not so much about race, but about our perceptions of beauty and what constitutes that at any given time in human history.
How about it gang? Do any of YOU judge people by the color of their skin? I honestly donât think I do. My father raised me to be better than that. However, being of a certain color doesnât give you an automatic âpassâ in my book either. You have to earn my friendship and respect by showing me who you really are. No excuses! There are awesome people of every color and culture and there are also awful people of every color and culture. Use your own good sense to sort them out and stand by your friends no matter what the color of their skin.
Sheâs not being a hypocrite here, she was talking about details that a person CANâT change about themselves, not decorative details that people can apply and remove on a whim
Did I just click onto âLuann Againnâ? (I know I did not, for any pedantic-types among you guys.) Todayâs strip would fit right in there. Potatohead Brad could give them a ride!
Ever seen the Instagram and other clips where a doll-faced woman takes off all her makeup and becomes the Sea Hag? Never get involved with a woman romantically until you have seen her with a fresh-scrubbed face.
in reality, yeah it does matter. Your surface appearance is the first thing people will see, and unfortunately initial impressions and âjudgementsâ are made at that moment i.e. if there is nothing else to go on.
Okay, so Luann loads up on the makeup just to go to the mall. Why? I dunno; maybe she hopes to meet âMr. Perfectâ there and wants to look âher best.â
Seems more like a 13-year-oldâs approach, thoughâŠ.
Honestly, I can relate. Most âbeautyâ standards are always implying that blue/green eyes, blonde hair, and fair skin is typically âperfectâ and many, and by that I mean MANY ads about getting âperfect hairâ or âperfect eye colorâ are there. I donât know HOW many of those ads have ruined me as a child, and they still do today. Iâm just a kid alright? I have olive-ish skin, dark brown eyes, and dark brown hair. Thatâs my genes, and I donât want to change it. God itâs become so toxic nowadays.
I am not sure why GE bothered with this. Delta was booted out of this strip years ago. Dez and Bets are minor characters at best, not even in the basic orbit of the titular character. There has never been a male POC depicted that I can recall. A single annual allusion to MLK day that turns into a joke about makeup is not really striving for change or understanding.

Judging people by looks? This isnât judging season. Itâs mating season. Even the birds are putting on their best makeup (plumage). You go, Luann.

So Luann puts on her makeup like itâs her first time, and is talking about going to the mall. Is this strip a repeat from 2002 or something?
dadoctah about 3 years ago
It occurs to me that Luann may have another persona, like Vicky in the âRose Is Roseâ strip.

A good reason not to believe in God, if there was one, he would have made all people the same color.
