Now that his daughter is approaching the age of 21, all of sudden Frank is “concerned” about what guy Luann is with.

Now this is the same Frank DeGroot that once allowed his teenage daughter Luann, to get into a limo with that creepy Elwood Druitt and his hulking bodyguard.

I mean, SHEESH.

He wants to study something, all right.

I am way past liking this arc.

Now give your daughter a clue Frank. Time for this arc to wrap up & be over please!

Frank just hears “boy in the room with his daughter” and nvm the boy is 8 years younger than luann and would get her into a world of trouble. Axel isn’t aaron hill, frank. Just because she’s got a boy in her room doesn’t mean they’re going to do hank-panky.

Relax frank, luann knows what she’s doing….and not going to be doing with a hormonal teenage boy.

Axel is not interested in that way he pick her brains.

Maybe you can get a tutor Luann, on how to read and understand other people!

Frank would be just as indignant if the guy were Luann’s age, btw.

I’m really uneasy about this story arc. If this unfolded in the real world, it would destroy the teacher’s life. It wouldn’t matter if she never did anything wrong, you can lose the ability to teach over a mere bad reputation. And in a lot of communities allegations that one has dallied with a student means that you’re guilty until proven innocent, but you can’t prove a negative.

How many boys a number of years younger had a crush on me when I was a teenager? I don’t know, but a few of them fessed up decades later.

I hope that text doesn’t include a cucumber or eggplant emoji.

Luann is so happy to be unable to understand what is happening. But Frank can, because he’s his father and is immediately worry about her… Let’s hope Luann will have an open conversation with Axel about that and be able to continue to help him study.

Axel has a huge crush. Luann is unaware but her dad is. Frank is more perceptive than I gave him credit for yesterday. I’d also like to walk back some of my disregard of him yesterday. I reread yesterday’s panels and it now sounds like he was only teasing her. He STILL could have been more supportive but she really doesn’t seem to mind his teasing. Sorry, Frank!

I like the banter between Luann and Frank. Wish I had had some of that. She reminds me of the “cockeyed optimist”, and Frank now has his fatherly protector senses on alert. ;-)

Stalker alert! Stop this storyline now or we’ll end up seeing Puddles fighting against being thrown into a pot of boiling water.

OK RANT TIME

1) What does it say about you that the second some adolescent pimple face makes a wise-ass remark about oder women, thast Luan is supposed to immediately have alarme bells go off an assume it was a lame ‘come-on’?

2) https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2022/03/28Frank is not concerned about Luann dating an older guy, so her age is only a concern if she actually did something untoward with Axel. In the link we can see he already knows Axel is 13 because LUANN TOLD HIM. His question in today’s last panel is IMO a precursor to him cluing her in tomorrow. But she is not stupid for not having gone there. Not everyone looks there impulsively.

3) Constantly commenting about her as clueless when all she did was NOT NOTICE A FAR FROM OBVIOUScomment is just being negsative for it’s own sake. But I keep forgetting home many of you are part of the MENSA SOCIETY.

4) Frank piled on the sarcasm for the first 10-20 minutes she was home, finally praised her, and then, finally actiely listening read between the lines.

RANT OVER

So many comments always go for the worst case scenario. All last week was about that teacher who went to jail, then married the adult kid an has since died. As if this was Luann’s destiny.

Or that she is an idiot for not assuming she was Axel’s night time inspiration. Because of course young women spend all their time thinking about the underage boys that have lurid fantasies about them. I bet if they do they think _"Yeah, that’s what gets me hot, an acne-faced punk with halitosis and perrenial B.O. and dirty fingernails, and the social graces of a gorilla!"_

YUP! Let’s go with that.

I think the question is how will Luann handle it when she finally realizes that Axel has a crush on her, a realization, knowing Luann, that will probably take several weeks to occur. She might become disillusioned because she was so sure it was her “teaching skills” that had him so enthused. Maybe she will still be able to help him be a better student. It is strange though, when Axel was shown in the Fay story he had to be chaperoned by his older brother because their parents are really strict. Don’t strict parents make sure their children are doing their homework? I think they do.

Axel is pretty young, obviously, but Luann isn’t anywhere near old enough to count as a cougar. (Besides, it appears that Axel is “grooming” Luann, not the other way around.)

Frank, she is an adult now. She is still your daughter though.

Axel is warm for her form…..

The thing is that none of the strips this week have contributed to the story from last week, And Frank worrying about the age of Luann’s student is a buzzkill because it would make from a more dramatic and interesting story if Luann walked into their next session and discovered on her own that Axel is hitting on her. That would have the advantage of forcing Luann to think on her feet and not have canned responses as today’s strip suggests she will.

Then again, considering Greg’s habit of reverting to the status quo at the least sign of development it is quite likely that nothing will come of Axel comment that he’s into older women (ie, Luann).

And Axel didn’t even like Luann in the last arc he appeared in!

Chill out, Big Dumb Frank. Luann’s not going to take being come onto by a 13-year-old!

Now you can worry folks.

By panel 3, is Frank beginning to suspect what we already know; namely that lecherous, hormonally-driven, thirteen-year-old Axel is hot for Luann’s brainless body?

My apologies if someone already commented on this and I missed it. And probably I’m just being too “realistic” minded about a comic. But since Luann is being paid to be a tutor, how can a student just call her up and request another session? I’d think that would have to be cleared through Mrs. Fogarty; that there isn’t just some sort of “dial-a-tutor” option. Of course it works for the storyline, but it’s kind of a stretch to think that this could happen. Okay, ‘nuff said; I’ll go back to my old-fogey couch now.

Not to mention the Cash he’ll rake in when the Video goes Viral.
