…I feel like there should be some specific, Italianate plural for one pepperoni. A pepperono? Like paparazzi, plural; paparazzo, singular. Maybe a pepperonum, like media/medium?

Or maybe I should just say “slice of pepperoni” like a regular person and go to bed.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Thomios: Uncle Floof and I have put together this special honey and cheese tray.

Floofnet the Joyous: Please enjoy the new honey made from Trevor-Hotep’s new line of Meese Sunflowers.

Lupinium: It’s an unusual gold color.

Puckmosis: What an amazing flavor. It starts out tangy, almost sour, but then has the most delicious sweetness.

Beatrixia: It reminds me of something. Or maybe that’s someone.

Puckmosis: Why are they called Meese sunflowers?

Uncle Floof: Here is an example of one. Notice the large, puffed out flower.

Thomios: And the sour and sweet flavor.

    Enter Elvis-Anum

Elvis-Anum: I like this new honey. It seems sweet and dignified at the same time.

For several years I’ve been dragging around the phrase “putting the cute in charcuterie”. Only time I’ve gotten to use it organically was when a bunch of us went to a Korean place where you grill your own meat at the table.

I love Elvis’s little paw-pat in panel 6. Also, about the chyron: Claw game? Is that the grocery (or whatever) store thingy where you put money in and try to grab something with a metal claw?

I make a much smaller selection of cheese and sausage and have it with my martini on the weekends. The sausage comes from the Volpi Company (https://www.volpifoods.com/), and the cheese comes from the Wine and Cheese Place. After all, what is a cocktail without a nosh?

    P.S. Marigold?

P.P.S. Elvis is right. Nobody eats dried fruit; it is collected throughout the year and given to Fruitcake makers in November for final disposition.

I’ll stick to my simple cheese platter. Living in Plymouth WI I have 4 cheese factories within 2 miles of my house. And a few short miles to the NE is Johnsonville. My platters usually consist of Johnsonville summer sausage, Sargento cheese and some Ritz or Townhouse crackers. Oh and my platter is plastic from the dollar store

I thought today’s discussion would be about how to pronounce Charcuterie and experience of charcuterie boards forthwith, instead it is about Judy Blume and Aunt Flo. LOL I love how Georgia’s comic strip generates tons of comments on just about everthing. And we learn new things.

I love the look of pure glee on Puck’s face in the last panel!

Off topic: Smudge caught a bird the other day and dropped it, most sincerely dead, on my foot. For some strange unknown reason, he was miffed when I buried it in the back next to Yum Yum.

I took French in high school. For some reason the pronunciation was easy for me. The curse is the reflex French pronunciation of words like “charcuterie” that have been adopted in English. If I’ve heard the American pronunciation I’m ok but if not I get in trouble.

My dad my my baby sister a charcuterie board for this past Christmas. FAR cheaper than going to a home goods store and buying one. And it looked better too. He used firewood that he cut into boards and lined up the grain to give it a beuatiful apperance.

For folks who want to avoid the aphonetic mess that is the French language, that can also be called a ploughman’s lunch.

And if you’re thinking, “Hey, English is also an aphonetic mess!” Have you ever wondered why the English language is such a crime against vowels?

1066! That’s why! If France had left England and its language alone, it would still be a fine, easy to read and pronounce, Germanic language!

I do wonder if she was a licensed librarian. She was about 110 years old, and very protective of “her” library. She’d been the high school librarian for some time I guess, she probably didn’t have all the training that a newly hired librarian would have had (and remember this was about 60 years ago). She was of a generation that thought girls and boys were two separate species, and that children in general were not totally human. I had a run in with her again when I was in 10th grade and checked out Ivanhoe (the unabridged edition with ALL the footnotes). She informed me that it was only for seniors in the advanced English class and that she would not let me renew it when the first 2 weeks were up. I read it in a week.
