I didn’t see that coming: Amelia is more or less a human being this time.

Ah, so sad to hear some of Spuds backstory. So happy he has Wallace and Wallace’s dad in his life. And Amelia comes through……

Oh, schniff….excuse me, I think there’s something in my eye…

This is the best comic strip I’ve seen….in….this is one of the best comic strips I have ever seen.

Seems like Mr Henry is not really fond of parents who shirk their duty to their kids. And I think, he found the right words to describe them.

Sigh. This is really sad and beautiful at the same time. Poor little Spud… But he has the best friends in the world ♡. Interesting to know something about Amelia’s father. But the man sounds bad.

I love the change in Spud’s emoji from the 7th to 8th panel.

This would probably explain a lot of Spud’s mom’s issues and how much she has to control Spud to keep him close. Can’t have another one leave her. Poor Spud. And I’d have never thought Amelia would do this! Tears…

I love how cartoon profanity is lots of strange symbols.

Oh my gosh, the sad little look on spud’s face in panel 5. You can even imagine the plaintive tone he gets in his voice when he’s asking why. Just wow.

Amelia did not know Spud’s dads not around? Unlikely and thus pretty insensitive to bring it up. Still, a touching cartoon.

I’d adopt either one or both of them in a Heartbeat. And I definitely agree with Amelia……

As usual, Amelia sums it up nicely.

Question: why does Go Comics not show the first panel of the Sunday Wallace the Brave comic? It does for other comics….

Lend an opinion- Did Spud get his unique head shape from is mom or dad? Also do you think his older sister has the same shaped head?

I always thought Amelia had a softer side- glad to see she includes Spud in it.

So much to love about today’s strip, but I think the first panel is especially poignant, because it makes you wonder what was going on before Amelia joined Spud in the boat.

Seems like he’d been sitting there alone for a some time. Meanwhile, Amelia, out for an aimless solitary walk, also thought of spending some quiet time in the boat and happened to find him there.

That made me tear up for both of them! I love that Amelia knows that sometimes a hug is the best you can do.

Amelia does have a kind spirit but hidden away deep. It comes out at carefully timed occurrences. Soak it up Spud but be quiet about it.

I knew there was good in Amelia’s cold, black heart. She cares about her friends; she has a rough way of showing it.

I really appreciated the WtB when it came up on my feed last night. You don’t see much acknowledgment of the pain that Father’s day poses for children with absent or unsatisfactory fathers in general and finding it on the comics page is even rarer.

And Amelia swearing her outrage on Spud’s behalf? Another moment of emotional honesty that I’m sure is going to inspire shocked letters from people who prefer to imagine that children are never so ill done by as to merit the right to curse about it.

THANK YOU for this. As an uncle of two nephews and a niece who suffer from parental issues (luckily they are all old enough they are away from them now), it is so good to see this other perspective on these holidays come to the surface. There are way too many Spuds out there, and way too few Amelias. Coming from a very stable, loving household myself it absolutely breaks my heart every Mom’s and Dad’s day when I picture my nephews and nieces seeing the ads on TV and Instagram etc. knowing what they have gone through – and knowing they are not alone in that.

My father was an abusive jerk. Father’s Day hurts a lot, every year. This made me feel better — thank you, Will.

I’m calling it. These two definitely will end up together some day.

I’m traveling this week and catching up on strips and only just read this one. Will, I love this so much. Thank you for writing a strip for kids like Spud this Father’s Day. This would have meant the world to me as a kid (and does at any age.) So well done.

Secretly, I think Amelia is very fond of Spud

This may be the only time i’ve seen will henry go for pathos and it works well, and explains a lot of boths behavior as well as why Spud’s mother’s so overprotective, while also giving the two a nice moment that dosen’t feel forced or anything.

I’ve always loved this strip, ever since I first discovered it, and recently I’ve found I have a bit of a hyperfixation on it right now. But this.. this is beautiful.

That 4th panel is very touching- no words but it says it all.
