When you have to ask the question, “Who’s ‘we’,” when you’re interviewing/questioning a strange cat in a very strange, very spooky part of the house that no one has been in for decades . . . you don’t ask it with a big smile on your face!
(And, you don’t ask it without first quickly looking all around the room and especially behind you! Remember what I said yesterday about situational awareness?)
We had fireflies in WI, IL, IN, and NJ (the most recent of my firefly summers). Alas, that was in the last century (well, moved out of NJ in August 2001, so briefly in this century).
Awwwwww!!! ❤ I love Bea’s reaction to Ora Zella’s friendly pounce. She takes after a certain Cat of Adventure. Look at her expression of pure joy in the last panel! Elvis would most certainly have pouffed out most self-righteously. ;p
Burt let it go. You know who one of her dad’s is. Just be glad Elvis’ former-ish hatred of anything unknown or tendency to swat guests wern’t things she picked up from this daddy.
ORA ORA ORA! She’s also arrived and while I haven’t adopted her the way I have iggy yet gosh she’s adorable. So cute. I ike the dynamic so far: iggy is mellow and kinda shy and Ora is chaos incarnate.
Iggy keeps being compared to vampires and ghosts, but with his horizontally-striped red and white shirt and that slanted black splotch that covers his closed eye, he looks like a pirate to me!
And Ora Zella is so adorable! Her little face and tail, her obvious personality, and her outfit! It’s so frilly and pretty! She almost looks like a ballerina…
Burt’s chyrons continue to amuse, but panel 4 stands out here. Georgia’s most recent post was a picture of Iggy and Ora Zella captioned buddies, and you can definitely tell! I hope we get a reason why they ran away, even if it was only for the sake of adventure.
Speaking of the Phantom, my granddaughter and I are taking the Train to NYC in December and to see “Phantom of the Opera”. We planned on doing that in early 2020, but the pandemic prevented that trip. So, we rescheduled. I can’t wait.
Yep, predicted it days ago, there are two strays that will be taken in by the Man and the Woman. The reporters will quickly learn to get along with the two new comers and then………………………..Tusslemania!!!!
The second day I had Vivekat home from the pet shop, she used her tiny, surgically sharp claws to escape through a fabric window screen. I was heartbroken but called around outside until I heard her meow through the neighbor’s door. Even though we had only been together less than 24 hours, we had recognized each other’s voices. I sat on the doorstep until my neighbor came home.
She grew up to be an amazing cat who would walk along the sea cliff with me, ride down off the roof on a cardboard box like an elevator and even let me stuff her in a backpack when she got “stuck” in a redwood tree 30 feet off the ground. Vivekat!
So, I’m wondering how the window got open in an addition that hasn’t had humans in it for years! If it was open all this time, there would have been serious damage from the elements. Can ghost cats open windows? Was there an unknown human occupant skulking in the addition?
Mmm. The multiplying dramatis personae threaten to become unwieldy, here. One thinks of Mark Twain’s experience with early versions of Puddin’head Wilson, wherein the story became so cluttered with minor characters that he had several of them fall down an abandoned well while watching fireworks. That was satisfactory, but the problem persisted and Twain felt it was unrealistic to have more characters fall down that well. A friend shrewdly pointed out that the real problem was that Twain had allowed two quite different stories, with overlapping characters and events, to get rolled up into one unwieldy ball. The result of the disentanglement was “Puddin’head Wilson” as we know it today, and “Those Extraordinary [Siamese] Twins.”
We used to have a tortie named Tumble. Because she would fall off of EVERYTHING! She eventually managed to fall out of an unlatched window, and then promptly adopted a neighbor who didn’t have any cats. We decided to let her go, since she seemed to absolutely adore that neighbor. We decided to classify her as a foster cat even though we had intended to keep her.

The Phantom of the Opera
Bea: For days I’ve heard the meow
And now they’re here!
The cats we’ve waited for,
They now appear!
And ‘though I’m still not sure
Of what I’ll find,
The kitties in the missing room are there,
Now joy sublime!
…….
Elvis: Bea, leave, it’s dangerous,
You do not know,
What horrors await you there,
What perils show,
And ’though you climb to see
The pirate cat!
The kitties in the missing room are there,
Will we regret?
…….
Bea: We now have seen your face,
And fangs as well,
And now you talk of “we,”
Who’s that, pray tell!
Your spirit and our love,
In one big jump,
The kitties in the missing room are there.
With one big THWUMP!
